There are still some good releases though, it's just that most good dubstep producers have "expanded" their sound.

lol @ u niggaz... the buzz around chillwave never even took off really until this year... before then it was strictly underground and strictly for the hipsters... and obviously dubstep isnt at its peak in 2010 but as the thread stated, the point is about what genre is beginning to become the forerunner in the hip music circles...educate urselves people, its embarrassing

Dr. Simon Hurt
10-06-2010, 08:33 PM
^you are wrong...chillwave is, as bateman put it, 'amazingly old'...i suppose you could say it is 'strictly for the hipsters' if you are young with self image problems and care about things like which music is 'the forerunner in the hip music circles'. shit was 'lo-fi', 'shoegaze', 'dream pop' and a ton of other names over the past few years. just like 'electroclash' or 'italo disco' it'll just be absorbed and regurgitated by the mainstream, and then some other vaguely similar bands will come along and an idiotic sub genre label will be slapped onto it.

all I did was take out the petty insults about your age, self image problems, and lack of intelligence and musical knowledge.
now you know what was missing.

“We were out the other night with the dudes from Neon Indian and we were joking about how we’ve created a scene that never really existed,” said Josh Kolenik of Small Black. The band introduced itself to Neon Indian, he said, “because we wanted to make chillwave jokes.”
Whereas musical movements were once determined by a city or venue where the bands congregated, “now it’s just a blogger or some journalist that can find three or four random bands around the country and tie together a few commonalities between them and call it a genre,” said Alan Palomo of Neon Indian.

-718RDAcXYQ&feature=related

5RY9mKY8puA&feature=related

Is so much more interesting than some fuzzed out clicking and ocean sounds:

AL2k4Tm5StA&feature=related

I like Washed Out, but let's see how many decent tracks they make... i can count maybe 3 to date... and every track they make follows the same formula.

I don't know why you always insist on trying to compare different types of music anyway. You obviously don't have an appreciation for dubstep, which is fine, but why do you feel the need to share that all the fucking time.

As Lacey hinted at, if you don't like garage or dnb or 2step etc. etc., why the fuck would you be into dubstep?

Nobody gives a shit if you prefer lo fi hipster electronica to actual bass music.

It just makes you a polynesian pussy.

Who fuckin cares what music genre is on top or more popular or 'the next big thing', good music is good music, listen to whatever the fuck you want whenever you want regardless of whats currently on top.

Electronic music fans in general are too concerned with genres and whats big NOW rather than just focusing on good music thats being made regardless of what sub genre it is.

I like dubstep sometimes, but i have to be in the mood to listen to it, and i could give a fuck when it was in its peak or who discovered it first. Burial, Skream, Vex'd etc have made some great music.

^co-sign wtf at raves, its not 1991.

Dubstep is a sub-genre of grime/dub/electronic music, its absolutly noting like rave music, which by definition is the rave music of the late 80's early 90's.

The only clubs that really play dubstep are specialised clubs, or clubs that have a dubstep night (could be wrong, ive never been to a club in London, but in general) so dubstep has its own following without really having to rely on clubs to push it, and i think its best enjoyed at home.

But my point was who fucking cares whats big now, if its dope listen to it, if its not, keep listening to whatever form of music you wanna, and fuck whats been played in clubs for the most part.

Wow why is someone who has never even been to a London rave claiming such authority over the world of underground electronica?

Nothing like rave music?

And what is rave music? just Orbital?

Specialized nights?

Dubstep is the leading clubbers sound nowadays and has been for the past 3/4 years, people want to go to dubstep raves, and yes they are collectively called raves because most think the rave scene has been resurrected, (we have squat raves every week) not in its original form but resurrected nonetheless.

Best enjoyed at home?

Quite the opposite dubstep can be endured to a certain degree at home before you feel the insatiable need march down to east London in a drug induced haze and shack out in a dimly lit smokey room.

True, like i said i have never been out in London, i was in Liverpool recently and went to a dubstep night, really enjoyed it, but i was told that its only once a week or some shit that dubstep is played.

Rave as in the late 80's early 90's rave music scene.

As for best enjoyed at home, thats a personal opinion, i find enjoy relaxing with some weed and listening to dubstep rather than in a club. Cant beat been in a drug induced haze though, hope to be in one in a few hours.

Who's mad now :)

It's cool, we all think you're the most happening bro because you exclusively listen to tracks with pictures of sunsets in their youtube vids.

You won't need to start another approval seeking thread anytime soon (i'd say you probably will though)

i think, for a grass skirt wearing island gook from san fransisco, you're probably taking the asiatic black man thing a little too seriously.

Alcatraz as a reasonable aware human being you should be able to catch the drift here....

The consensus is unanimous.

You are a freshie poser masquerading as some sort of credible music critic.

Ouch.

Now just take the blows like a man, and understand you made a fatal error making this thread, it was a hunch you shouldn't of followed. You have to learn how to control this silly impulsive thinking of yours.

Take your fuzzy dream sunset pop and listen to it by all means just don't use the word Dubstep to get thread views.

Thanks.
