View Full Version : What Tim Burton's Superman Would've Looked Like

Superman Lives seems too bad to be true, a bogeyman created to silence fans who complain about Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. Alas, the nightmarish vision of Tim Burton, Jon Peters and a string of writers (most notably Kevin Smith) was nearly unleashed upon an unsuspecting world: Nicolas Cage was cast as the Man of Steel, costumes were created and Pittsburgh selected to double as Metropolis.
Kevin Spacey was approached for the role of Lex Luthor, a part he went on to play in Superman Returns. Courtney Cox was considered for Lois Lane while Chris Rock was set to portray Jimmy Olsen — hey, it was the mid-’90s. Even more terrifying is that Tim Allen was reportedly in talks to play Brainiac who, in at least one version of the script, fought polar bears at the Fortress of Solitude.
But in 1998 Warner Bros. pulled the brakes over financial concerns, Burton moved on to direct Sleepy Hollow, and disaster was averted. How’s that for a Halloween tale? Sure beats the one about the escaped killer with a hook for a hand!
Official images from the movie’s pre-production are rare — wonder why? — but just in time for All Hallow’s Eve, visual effects artist Steve Johnson has dusted off nearly two dozen test photos for what would’ve been Superman’s costume. You can check out some of them below, or visit Johnson’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=247048&id=183083583928&ref=mf) for the full gallery. Suddenly all the dickering about the belt and trunks in Superman Returns seems even sillier, doesn’t it?

Knowing Tim Burton's style, there wouldn't have been a lot of lights in Metropolis, unless you people forgot that before, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", Tim Burton's Batman movies were by far the best. I think it would've been ill simply because of the kind of mind the dude has. I mean, let's be real, the costume isn't all that, but the whole movie wouldn't be based around the damn costume either.

90's burton!?!?!?!?

shit woulda been ill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

todays burton would have superman breaking into song with his busted wife!!!!!!!!!

but dusted 90's burton woulda dropped some next level shit!!!!!!!!!

it would probably shit on the source material, but the visual appeal and creativity would carry it over!!!!!!!!!!!

anything better than faggot singers superman, dean cain laughin that one off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

singer should never be given a big budget movie again, he spent 300 mill to have clark kent pacing the office like a bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! singer made x-men a gay rights movement and superman a 300 million dollar bitch, WB shoulda had that cock smooch offed in all honesty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

burton fell the fuck off though, and depps goin down for the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just the type of shit Superman needs now.

Superman doesnt fit welll to movies imo if youre trying to make it actually serious. Batman and Spiderman kind of do, but not Superman. Idk why. Maybe because hes just a guy in a blue lycra suit who can fly.

Yeah I didnt like Alice in Wonderland much, but I actually thought Depp did OK in that.

Depp needs a break from Burton though. Burtons just gonna turn him into a stage clown.

superman should be the easiest fuckin superhero movie to make...

dead the realism...

metropolis should be huge, dream like...

superman has infinite power, dream the biggest set piece possible, and get it done...

punch nuclear missles out of orbit, fight huge robots, have kryptonite threaten his life, save louis lane in dramatic fashion... BLOCKBUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! quick pace, big action, ill visuals, comic strip story...

bright colors, huge effects... singer faggot ass went for the "muted gay" look, probably inspired by his closet come up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its not that hard...

give that same budget to nolan, cameron, SPIELBERG (he got a classic superman in him)... and collect!!!!!!!!!!!!

dont hire mcG, get a real director that knows how to handle a big budget, and start cashing in already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i thought alice was wack, tip to tip!!!!!!

first of all it shoulda been an R... strike one!!!!!!!!!!

second of all... the atmosphere isnt what it was, "ok" isnt gonna cut it for the same dude that delivered beetlejuice and edward scissorhands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tim burton in 94 woulda flipped alice correct... dusted visuals, dusted interpretation...

tim burton in 20 grand made a fag happy, boring mess, with a promotioal hook!!!!!!!!!!

burtons wife is fuckin busted and he plugs her into every movie, hes out there enjoying life with his woman on hollywoods dime, he needs a flop to wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i knew burton lost it when willy wonka dropped... again, 94 burton woulda made a stoners dream scape, 20 grand burton gave you pedophile depp in white face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knew Alice was gonna suck as soon as i saw the first previews. It just didnt look good. Non of this makes sense because thats a perfect film for Burton to let loose on. The design and the sets looked half finished. Visually it failed.

And the story failed. Story sucked ass. The 'sequel' wasnt a bad idea if they were going to have some serious writers taking of that, but they shouldve just done Thru The Looking Glass instead.

Well the original is the original, but I liked the movie as that sequel to it and I think it was a clever move by Burton to not adapt the original.

^so did this useless piece of shit contribute anything to the discussion or did he just waddle in here to sling some played out insults? (i have PussyDouche on ignore, which I highly recommend)

i think burton on supes would've been interesting, but that suit is awful.

alice in wonderland was ok...my girlfriend enjoyed it quite a bit...i thought the problem was the screenplay, not the direction, cinematogrpahy, or design.

superman is best with a mix between spider-man 1's bright comic book action and sin city's fast pace (not the darkness)...every damn comic book movie doesnt have to be a fuckin drama

this might have been dope but got damn it superman returns dragged on, still wasn't all bad movie least it tried to tell a compelling story without all the super effects
