I'd stick to FL if you know your way around it. Learning to play keys won't hurt either.

i think, the most important things are: be creative and patient! try out everything and if you fail, try out other things. the more instruments you are able to play, the easier it'll get. never give up, young apprentice!

As a first MIDI keyboard/controller to see if it works for you, I'd get an MPK 25, it's simple and powerful. Also, I am not a software guy but having messed around with various programs I'd say that Ableton Live was the best.

250$ is really nothing if you are trying to invest money in equipment. Some of the more professional keyboards are astronomically priced. That said all you really need to get started is some keys man, I think Korg makes a lil controller that is like 60$

you can use your computer keyboard as a keyboard in fruity loops to get used to playin keys. i personally want to score one of them mpk 25 joints to try to step the game up a little. really though its not about the equipment and expensive stuff all the times. two words 9th wonder. good luck finding what you feel you need though.

Nowadays you can just join a site to get started in production, then if you want move on to ordering hardware/software and building your home studio. It seems like a site that already has tutorials and software you can use online to make your beats is a quicker, helpful start for beginners.

Try Sonic Producer online production software here: http://ht.ly/3zYXY

I think he's talking about the Korg Nano stuff. I tried their nano keyboard and it sucks for playing piano, for sample triggering it's ok. I would buy the Lpk25 keyboard if I were you or save money for a Mkp25

so very true. music equipment costs! look up the price of good acoustic guitars then think about how much good digital equipment costs. the "good stuff" music equipment wise is always around 800 - 1k + from my experience. my mic new was 400 i've seen mics for 5k...

the needles for scratching cost like 125-150 or something like that ...

random bitching about prices of shit i can't afford LOL

Yea man, my homie built a serious home studio over the last 2 years. His studio was made to be able to have clients come in, not just record his own music...but anyway yea he has a good selection of production equipment, real deal mixing boards for tracking, 2 sound treated rooms for recording, some old tube mastering equipment etc etc...cost him around 20,000$. That wasn't all up front cost, it was an estimate of what years of years of investments added up to.

I'm not saying that is even necessary lol, not all of us are trying to build a studio to record label quality material...but yea you def gotta put up bread if you wanna get the goods
