if you deny his talents, you're a bitter faggot that doesn't know real lyricism.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4fPzD6F9eI

It's mean, soldiers
Now let me put the streets down like steamrollers
With the CATS that push
40 oz. through the hood like King Cobras
See we sling soda
'Cause the extra four in the split is mixed
It's really 36
Used to buy toasters and clips
You can tighten your circle or boa constrict
While you was lighting your purple, I was over the scripts
See, I couldn't walk the walk, couldn't really talk the talk
Had to get my talk to properly explain my walk
'Cause this lack in talk had my walk looking off
Now I'm over the limp
Watch how they mugs drop when they see my Verbal's able
(That's the Usual)
When I was po' I was low
Now me and my Chaps cop Purple Label
It's Ralph Lauren on the rap laureate
Niggas brown nose, they are like "after him"
Runners at Interscope are not as Stoute as him
Please don't Interscope
It's gonna be a whole lot of Iovine and respirating
If I lean out this window with Irene
Niggas as tall as Yao Ming
With L-U-P-Emperor
Is the foundation's high beams and the antennas
It's so serious every time I write my John Hancock like
Could damn near see Detroit ( I see you )
Niggas is scared of heights
This is saran wrap and aluminum foil
Some potpourri, a little machine oil
I stack my paper and throw off my 6
This is top floor, better look out before
Pennies from heaven is the same as the semi from the second
And I reign supreme
Turn your umbrellas upside down
Did you even catch the change in theme?

How many rappers you know can have so many entendres in one song? Not Nas, Not Rakim, Not Jay-Z.

Lupe is one of the greatest lyricist of all time.......

Ghostface's "Mighty Healthy" had like 8 entendres per line ...

Almost every single Rakim line in the Follow the Leader album is a triple entendre at the very least

lupe had a lot of entendres but.... tell me... how was his flow & delivery on this track??? very basic. his rhyme scheme... very basic.

lyrics don't mean shit if you don't have a sick delivery and flow.

I agree lupe is one of the dopest lyricists this generation, and he's one of my favourite emcees but

Almost every single Rakim line in the Follow the Leader album is a triple entendre at the very least

Rakim does what lupe does better. its the mysticism, his entendres work on a different level - like nas, whereas i feel lupe's are not as deep.

But I'm warming up, oceans is on the rise
I be Ocean with 11 associates on my side
Colder than Chris Martin guitarin' -- would you look at all these Spies?
But they can't see me, I took out their eyes
Replaced them with some me's, so all they see is he's
But I will never run, not even if they cry
See I can never fall, not even down their cheek
But I will always ball, let's see who the first to blink
And I don't need no passwords cause I don't need to cheat
But you can say your last words then you can rest in peace
I'm the hook after your last verse, I'm also like the beat

LOL Nas being better than Lupe.

LMAO i thought a lupe stan would know he's nas son, admitted many times. it was written is his favourite album. I gave you power? you think that had any effect on his style? you really think he's better than nas at that shit? Lol at the level of Rakim. Rakims entredres are sometimes so subtle most people don't even catch them. Some of lupe's verses suck unless u know they're entredres....thats what his failing is. thats why he lacks the depth of these other dudes. I think he'll get better and get to that level, but until them he's not as dope. One of the dopest, yeah i think he'll be a legend, but too early to put that on him.

Lupe's one of the illest rappers of the last 10 years.

F&L was meh to me but The Cool is a sick concept album with some of the craziest story telling tracks I've heard on a hip hop record.

I also like how he couldn't give a fuck about a radio friendly song, so much to the point where he's let his own album be shelved because of it.

After the petitions and stalls, Lupe says "Lasers" will be controversial and feature club records as well as thought-provoking tracks.

Lupe said he’s making an effort to appeal to his core audience as well as mainstream fans.

^^^What's your point? It says the album was delayed as Lupe wouldn't make a pop single. He's seen the fan response to the delay so as a compromise with the label will throw some club tracks on there.

He's putting an album out with some club tracks, which isn't what he wanted, but doesn't want to let his fans down.

On a side note, smh at working with the Neptunes, why do hip hop artists still work with these guys, I just don't get it! When was the last time they made a hit for a hop hop artist!?

I'll admit I originally slept on Lupe at one point like a lot of you are. Nothing to do with his music, I was just sort of talking to this girl that he was sort of talking to at one point, so he was competition hahaha. As an artist though, I love his music. I'll break it down this way, so you guys can see why I think that he could be the G.O.A.T. one day.

His Catalogue:
Look at how many really dope tracks that he's put out in his career so far…a lot of these songs are Hip-Hop Classics as far as I’m concerned:
• “Kick/Push”
• “Sunshine”
• “DayDreamin’” ft. Jill Scott
• “American Terrorist”
• “Little Weapon”
• “Dumb It Down”
• “Paris/Tokyo”
• “The Cool”
• “Hip-Hop Saved My Life”
• “Streets On Fire”
• “Gold Watch”
• “Superstar”
• “Go To Sleep”
• “Words I Never Said”
• “All Black Everything”
• “Resurrection”
• “Shining Down”
• “I’m Beamin’”
• “Letting Go” ft. Sarah Green
• "Intruder Alert", Etc

Subject Matter Diversity
Just look at the diversity of his songs, and you’ll see how well-rounded his catalogue is. As far as well-roundedness (if that’s even a word lol), his catalogue is top 5:
• LOVE SONGS: “Sunshine”, “Paris/Tokyo”
• “Streets On Fire”: About the Aids Epidemic
• “Resurrection”: Tribute song to Haiti
• “Dumb It Down”: About the record labels giving him pressure to dumb his music down…ironic because of his current situation
• “Intruder Alert”: About a rape victim, a drug-addict, and an illegal immigrant all dealing with their demons and the struggles of life.
• “Little Weapon”: A song about child soldiers.
• “He Say She Say”: About a child struggling with growing up without a father.
• “American Terrorist”: About the hypocrisy of Americans labeling other people as “Terrorists” because of the history of American Terrorism.
• STORY-TELLING: “Kick/Push”, “The Cool”, “Hip-Hop Saved My Life”, “Intruder Alert”
• INTROSPECTIVE songs: “Letting Go”, “Beautiful Lasers”

And that’s just a few examples.

Lyrics:
Now let’s take a look at his actual lyrics:

Introspective Lyrics:
-From Verse 1 of “Letting Go”:
“My self-portrait,
Shows a man that the wealth tortured,
Self absorbed with his own self,
Forfeit a shelf full of awards,
Worshipping the war ships that set sail on my sea of life,
The way I see my own self and wonder if we still see alike,
We was tight, seeing lights, speaking right and breathing life,
Now I see my demons and barely even sleep at night,
I don't get high, life keep me at a decent height,
As the old me, I predicted all my recent plights,
Exhausted, trying to fall asleep…losses in my recent fights,
Burdens on my shoulders, now,
Burning all my motors down,
Inspiration drying up,
Motivation slowing down”

Story-Telling Lyrics:
-From Verse 1 of “The Cool”:
“He came back…
In the same suit that he was buried in
Similar to the one his grand father was married in
Yes... he was still fresh to death
Bling, two earrings, a chain laying on his chest
He still had it cuz they couldn't find it
And the bullets from his enemies sat like two inches behind it
Smelled the Hennesy from when his n*ggas got reminded
And poured out liquor in his memory, he didn't mind it, But...
He couldn't sip it fast enough
So the liquor was just filling the casket up
Floating down by his feet was the letter from his sister
Second Grade hand-writing simply read "I miss ya"
Suit jacket pocket held his baby daughter's picture
Right next to it one of his man's stuck a swisher
He had a notion as he laid there soaking
Saw that the latch was broken, he kicked his casket open
And he...”

Social Commentary Lyrics:
-From Verse 1 of “American Terrorist”:
“We came through the storm..nooses on our necks
And a smallpox blanket to keep us warm on a 747 on the pentagon lawn
Wake up…the alarm clock is connected to a bomb
Anthrax lab on a West Virginia farm
Shorty ain't learned to walk already heavily armed
Civilians and little children is especially harmed
Camouflaged Torahs, Bibles and glorious Qurans
The books that take you to heaven and let you meet the Lord there
Have become misinterpreted, reasons for warfare
We read 'em with blind eyes I guarantee you there's more there
The rich must be blind because they didn't see the poor there
Need to open up a park, just close 10 schools
We don't need 'em
Can you please call the fire department they're down here marching for freedom
Burn down their TV's, turn their TV's on to teach 'em

Now the poor Klu Klux man see that we're all brothers
Not because things are the same because we lack the same color
That's green, now that's mean
Can’t burn his cross cause he can't afford the gasoline
Now if a Muslim woman strapped with a bomb on a bus
With the seconds running give you the jitters?
Just imagine an American-based Christian organization planning to poison water Supplies to bring the second-coming quicker
n*gga they ain't living properly
Break 'em off a little democracy
Turn their whole culture to a mockery
Give 'em Coca-Cola for their property
Give 'em gum, give 'em guns, get 'em young, give 'em fun
If they ain't giving it up, then they ain't getting none and don't give 'em all naw, Man, just give 'em some its the paper, some of these cops must be Al-Qaeda

It's like
Don't give the black man food, give red man liquor
Red man fool, black man n*gga
Give yellow man tool, make him railroad builder
Also give him pan, make him pull gold from river give black man crack, glocks and things…
Give red man craps, slot machines...”

Can you seriously front on those lyrics? Seriously? If you don’t think the lyrics to American Terrorist are dope, then I just don’t even know what to say to you lol.

Wordplay/Metaphors:
-From Verse 1 of “Dumb It Down”:
“I'm fearless, now hear this…I'm earless
And I'm peerless…That means I'm eyeless
Which means I'm tearless,
Which means my iris resides where my ears is
Which means I'm blinded
But I'm gonna find it I can feel it's nearness
But I'm gonna veer so I don't come near
Like a chicken or a deer
But I remember I'm not a listener or a seer so my windshield smear
Here, you steer, I really shouldn't be behind this, clearly cause my blindness
The windshield is minstrel, the whole grill is roadkill, so trill and so sincere. Yeah, I'm
both them there
Took both pills, when a bloke in a trench coat and the locs in the chair had approached him here…
And he clear as a ghost, so a biter of the throats in the mirror
The writer of the quotes for the ghosts who supplier of the notes to the living
Riveting is rosy, pockets full of posies, given to the mother of the deceased. Awaken at war,
'Til I'm restin' in peace…”

Nuff Said.

Flow
Just look at the variety of different flows that he has between a really laid back song like “Go To Sleep”, to the high speed flow he uses on “Streets On Fire”, to the more aggressive flow he has on “Super Lupe Rap”. Then look at the flow that he uses for Japanese Cartoon stuff, and for rock-themed songs like “Solar Midnight”.

Crossing Demographics
Lupe does something with his music that not a lot of artists can do, which is cross demographics and age groups. My grandfather is a Jazz musician that played with Frank Sinatra, Chubby Checker, etc, and he really likes songs like “DayDreamin” by Lupe. He said, and I quote “That’s real music, not like most of this rap bullshit I hear” LOL. My 50 year old Aunt asked me to make her a Lupe mix after hearing me play a few songs…both my parents dig his music and think that he’s really intelligent. So that’s 3 generations of people right there. I doubt think they’d have the same response to someone like REKS, no matter how dope he is, because his music isn’t as relatable for their generations. Lupe’s subject matter & music is very relatable. He can also make crossover radio tunes, and even do rock-themed songs that’re accepted by that community.

So this is why I think that he could be the G.O.A.T. one day. Seriously, listen to some of the songs I listed and pay close attention…Lupe’s really a gem, and I feel like he gets overlooked by some underground hip-hop fans, because he’s not the Royce the 5’9/R.A. the Rugged Man type of aggressive rapper spitting multis with punchlines and stuff. I feel like a lot of people won’t feel certain artists unless they are “hard”. Forget his clothes and his complaining or whatever else and just look at what he’s done musically so far, and tell me that he doesn’t deserve to be considered as one of the best Hip-Hop has to offer right now. And yes this was long as shit, but I’m going to turn it into an article for my online magazine once I flesh it out, so it was worth it lol.

Almost every time I see OP posting, I see him putting up some dumb shit. Lupe isn't anywhere close to being the lyricist of this generation. Anyone who says this clearly hasn't done enough digging. HIT THE INTERNET SON. Lupe has been mainstream for a while, meaning that he may be good, but there are many artist's talents that are overlooked because of his presence.

IN MY OPINION, there are rappers out that are better than Lupe, even in terms of lyrics.
