last year was a good year in hip hop.

so this thread is for stating what you've heard so far this year that your feeling.

putting people up on mc's or albums that you think are dope that might not be getting any promo or word of mouth.

really, just for talking good hip hop music in 2011.

i haven't heard a lot myself this year so far.

the money making jam boys mixtape dropped. it has some heat on it, but i havent got so sit down and listen to it closely yet.

i just got to listen to the 1982 evening news ep and the freeway and statik selektah ep. they are both really dope, especially beat wise. statik had a great 2010, so if this is how he's starting out this year i cant wait.

talib qweli's album has some good shit on it. not a classic but not bad either. bout as good as most of his albums.

got put up on a album by verbal kent called "save yourself". great production and guest spots. marco polo, apollo brown and 2 pete rock joints, plus masta ace, edo g, sadat x and one be lo. pleasantly surprised by this one.

slaughterhouse ep was kinda so-so. they just need some fire production.

roc c and guilty simpsons ep was good. guilty's the man.

USDA's CTE Or Nothing is pretty good if your into Young Jeezy. The production is pretty good.

Trae The Truth released a new mixtape of 10 freestyles which is pretty dope.

DJ Kay Slay is coming out with a new mixtape and 2 song already leaked. 1 song has Fred The Godson, Jon Connor, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Rock and the other has Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Papoose, Sheek Louch, and Styles P.

Game - "Heartbreaker" (Ft. Rev. Burks) (prod. by RZA)
Saigon - "The Greatest Story Never Told"
Madvillain - "Avalanche/Victory Lap"
Money Making Jam Boys - "Day Job"/"500 Horses"
AG - "I'm A Beast"

Roc Marciano Ft. Sean Price - "Snow Part 2"
Roc Marciano - "Scarface Nigga"
Dr. Dre - "Kush" (Ft. Snoop Dogg)
Cormega - "Journey (Revelations Remix)"

^^ that's some hot joints from this year that i like, i'm not sure some of them might be from late 2010. as for albums there really hasn't been any that caught my attention yet, Talib Kweli's album had it's moments but overall his weakest effort yet. very dissapointing after "Ear Drum", "Revolutions Per Minute" and "Liberation".

Tbh, there haven't been much good albums at all this year. I'm still patiently waiting for the late february - march albums, while mostly listening to soul and jazz... Gutter Rainbows was disappointing as fuck. Decent, but really disappointing.

Just saw that G-Side had a new album out though, The One... Cohesive. That should definitely be worth checking out. Block Beataz production just can't go wrong.

roc c and guilty simpsons ep was good. guilty's the man.

I've liked the 2 Pusha T tracks I've heard so looking forward to that album as it can't possibly be as much of a let down as Til the Casket Drops was.

That Pharaoh Monch - Clap track was nice also.

Random released another album, with someone called Lost Perception on the production. It was a pretty ill album, beats were Final Fantasy based. Name of the album is Black Materia.

I suggest you guys check it out, if you like storytelling.

new strong arm steady is making the rounds. "arms & hammers". madlib has 1 beat on there. looking forward to checkin that out.

and tyler the creators album is supposed to drop in march, i think. the first 2 tracks are pretty good. hopefully it can be a little more focused than his debut, but the kid is talented and i know its gonna have some heat on it.

K-Rino's Alien Baby came out this year.
I know some music from Brotha Lynch Hung's new album Coathanga Strangla has been released, and the whole thing is due out next month.

That's not his new album. It's an official release of an old album. His new album is called "NoYork!" and it doesn't have a release date yet.

Oh shit, you're right. I forgot all about NoYork!

Still copping this though.

got to listen to a couple of bangers lately.

ill bill & vinnnie paz's album is pretty good. i dont think its as good as a whole as last years "kill devil hills" but its pretty solid. the joints that are good are really fuckin good. and bill's stepped up his flow lately.

action bronson's "dr. lecter" is a front to back east coast banger. slick beats. hard beats. and the cat flows well on them all. he kinda sounds like ghostface to me, but thats not a bad thing.

and singapore kane's mixtape "wrath of kane" is about 60/40. 60 % is kane catchin wreck on dope beats and the other 40% was geared toward ladies or the radio. but there are some bangers on it.

also been bumpin 2 of the best from last year:
the left "gasmask"
& earl sweatshirt "earl"
both very solid albums.

..even cornier.

:mmmyah:

So Action Bronson = corny
and
"Bugsy Da God" = a real underdog making banging music?

Lol, yeah, and Warcloud is the GOAT. :nonono::nonono:

It seems like it's going to be a pretty dope year like the last one!

Can't pick only one album until now. Shaolin vs Wu-Tang and Oneirology are some dope projects. I mostly enjoy Big KRIT's new mixtape Return Of 4eva and 40 Winks' It's a trip which is a great instrumental jazzy hip hop album.

2011 has been pretty lackluster for hip hop, so far.
some really standout joints

g rap "riches, royalty, respect"
random axe lp

thats the only 2 i can think of off the top of my head. but i havent listened to a whole lot.

the last couple months looks like there might be some heat being put out.
guess we'll see.

''All 6's and 7's'' Tech N9ne or releases from most of Strange Music

Slightly Bad meets Evil, that was a decent release, too much female bashing though, shit got old

The only hip hop that matters this year

Honestly one of my favorite years for Hip Hop since like 2004. Thats not saying much for the years inbetween though.

Stuff this year so far that was dope: Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Meets Evil, Jim Jones, Currensy, Donnis, Big KRIT, Self Scientific, White Girl Mob, Lil B, Killer Mike, Drake leaks, J. Cole 'How High', Tyler, Skyzoo, Big Sean, Jean Grae and random tracks and songs from albums not yet released that suggest we still got a lot to look forward to.
