1) Shawn Chrystopher

For the past couple of years, Inglewood’s Shawn Chrystopher has been carving his own niche in the indie scene. His unique blend of witty lyricism over beats possibly reserved for alternative artists has set him apart. His recently released You, And Only You album (featuring songs like “Bang” (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/20/video-shawn-chrystopher-bang/)) is further proof that that he has what it takes to make some noise in 2011.

2) TiRon

The Cali emcee is about as brutally honest as they come. His knack for being clever and comfortable in his own skin has made him a favorite of TheWellVersed (http://thewellversed.com/2010/11/19/twv-x-2dbz-exclusive-tiron-the-formal-introduction/) and his MSTRD project landed on our best mixtapes of 2010 list (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/30/the-tens-10-best-mixtapes-of-2010/). We’re still wondering how he hasn’t gotten his due as of yet. But we’re banking on 2011 being the year that he’s no longer considered as “underrated.”

3) Big K.R.I.T.
http://thewellversed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/big_krit2-300x265.jpg (http://thewellversed.com/2011/02/03/the-tens-10-hip-hop-artists-to-watch-for-in-2011/big_krit2/)
K.R.I.T. has “it.” What exactly is “it?” A unique blend of Southern hospitality, ATL-ien influence, smooth flow and ability to pull the rug from up under anyone he his featured with is what makes K.R.I.T. have “it.” His 2010 mixtape “K.R.I.T. Wuz Here” landed on our best mixtapes of 2010 (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/30/the-tens-10-best-mixtapes-of-2010/) list and we have reason to believe that only great things will come in 2011.

4) Johnny Polygon

There aren’t too many like Johnny Polygon. What other artists do you know from Oklahoma who sing and rap and stand out (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/15/johnny-polygon-standing-out-too-much-to-fit-in-pt-1/) far too much to fit in (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/17/johnny-polygon-standing-out-too-much-to-fit-in-pt-2/)? He’s definitely an odd individual, but that’s what makes Johnny “F*ckin Awesome (http://thewellversed.com/2011/01/13/video-johnny-polygon-fckin-awesome-preview/).” Last year’s Wolf In Cheap Clothing (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/15/free-download-johnny-polygon-wolf-in-cheap-clothing-ep/) EP was the perfect follow up to “The Riot Song” which had the entire industry talking. Word to the wise (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/03/audio-johnny-polygon-the-wise/), don’t sleep on Johnny Polygon.

5) U-N-I

The Cali duo of Y-O and Thurzday are about as dope as they come. They bleed Cali and remind you of the days when Heiro and The Pharcyde ruled the underground movement in the West Coast. 2009′s A Love Supreme held us over for an entire year. But now, we’re ready to hear some more (http://thewellversed.com/2011/01/20/audio-u-n-i-feat-bj-the-chicago-kid-muddy-jane/) from U-N-I as we wait for the Kings Keep Marching project.

6) The Kid Daytona

The emcee from NYC has a silky flow that certainly distinguishes him when alongside the flood of talent in New York. He slapped us upside the head with “A Tribe Called Fresh” and really gave us a chin check when he cut loose “The Interlude” (http://thewellversed.com/2010/11/16/download-kid-daytona-the-interlude-lp/) where he rocked over some of hip hop’s most notable interludes. He’s definitely ready to blow, somebody just needs to light the fuse.

7) Terrace Martin
http://thewellversed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/terrace_martin1-300x199.jpg (http://thewellversed.com/2011/02/03/the-tens-10-hip-hop-artists-to-watch-for-in-2011/terrace_martin-2/)
Terrace Martin is one talented dude. You probably have heard his production and thought “that’s really dope” and never figured out who he was. Well, 2010 was the year Terrace began to breakthrough and made so much good music that people realized his name is “Terrace” and not “Terrance.” He’s collaborated with the best of them (http://thewellversed.com/index.php?s=terrace+martin) and will more than likely make even more noise when his S.E.X. EP drops in February.

Terrace Martin (Feat. CyHi Da Prynce & Kendrick Lamar) – “Thirsty”

8 ) Kendrick Lamar
http://thewellversed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kendricklamar-300x230.jpg (http://thewellversed.com/2011/02/03/the-tens-10-hip-hop-artists-to-watch-for-in-2011/kendricklamar/)
Probably the fastest rising talent coming out of the west, Kendrick Lamar spent 2010 grabbing the attention of everybody in and out of the music industry. His “Overly Dedicated” mixtape also landed on our list of top mixtapes (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/30/the-tens-10-best-mixtapes-of-2010/) and was hailed by J. Cole (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/14/2dbz-x-twv-exclusive-j-cole-the-soul-of-cole-part-1/) as his favorite mixtape of 2010. We’ve seen pictures of him in the studio with Dr. Dre and hope that some of that work with the good doctor leads to us hearing even more great music from the emcee formally known as K.Dot.

9) Laws
http://thewellversed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/laws-300x261.jpg (http://thewellversed.com/2011/02/03/the-tens-10-hip-hop-artists-to-watch-for-in-2011/laws-2/)
Laws kind of came in through the back door when nobody was looking in 2010. The Florida based emcee has already worked with the likes of 9th Wonder, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, DJ Khalil and Don Cannon. His 4:57 project was well received and we’re looking for 2011 to be a breakout year for Laws.

10) XV
http://thewellversed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/XV1-300x207.png (http://thewellversed.com/2011/02/03/the-tens-10-hip-hop-artists-to-watch-for-in-2011/xv-2/)
Vizzy has the nerd rap thing on lock down. While some rappers call themselves nerds, when XV spits bars like “money longer than Sephiroth’s blade,” you know he is for real. The Kansas rhymeslinger also landed on our ten best mixtapes of 2010 (http://thewellversed.com/2010/12/30/the-tens-10-best-mixtapes-of-2010/) and his collaborations with everyone from Vado (http://thewellversed.com/2011/01/04/audio-xv-feat-cyhi-da-prynce-vado-erin-christine-all-for-me/) to Talib Kweli to J. Cole (http://thewellversed.com/2011/01/31/audio-xv-smallville-produced-by-j-cole/) has everyone curious as to what The Kid With The Green Backpack will sound like.

XV is the one dude on this list who's album I'm eagerly anticipating.

The rest are good, but I'll focus on their shit after Viz drops

Except mabye Laws, I'm not really familiar with dude yet, dispite the fact I live in Florida.

Laws is dope, and he keeps getting great production.

^Emilio is better than all these dudes though.

As for the rest of the list, a lot of mediocrity. U-N-I, K.R.I.T., Lamar & XV got some dope stuff, but not enough to make me really follow them very closely.

That Polygon dude is god-awful.

ive been listening to Shawn Chrystopher and he's pretty good IMO.
