After over a year of anticipation, El's upcoming Nas-inspired project is less than a month away.
Detroit, Michigan emcee eLZHi (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.11863/title.elzhi-declares-that-rj-rice-is-the-poison-in-slum-village) has long been working on his conceptual mixtape, Elmatic. The free release takes its title and inspiration from New York emcee Nas (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/interviews/id.1460/title.nas-damian-marley-rebel-musicians)' classic 1994 debut album, Illmatic. This is El's first release since his 2008 solo debut album, The Preface (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/album-reviews/id.992/title.).
A spokesperson for the emcee confirmed to HipHopDX today that Elmatic will release on May 10, directly through Elzhi.com. Details are still revealing of the project from the former Slum Village member. Already, the artist released "Verbal Intercourse, Pt. 2" (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.14380) http://cdn.hiphopdx.com/images/play_button_article_blk.gif, an ode to a non-Illmatic Nas tune. Within the song, El spoke candidly about the state of his relationship with SV's T3, as well as the group's onetime manager RJ Rice (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.14579/title.elzhi-calls-out-slum-village-in-elmatic-song-verbal-intercourse-pt-2).
Last year, another emcee, Fresno, California's Fashawn, made a similar mixtape with DJ Green Lantern, Ode To Illmatic (http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/mixtape/id.1163) http://cdn.hiphopdx.com/images/play_button_article_blk.gif.

I've never been that intrested in this project, but with the complete lack of recent elzhi material I am fucking fiending for this.

Fashawn beat him to it with Ode to Illmatic, and it doesn't help that El sounds like Fa as well (or vice versa).
