There's also a hidden mic that records everything you say even when the phone is off. The only way to disable it is to take out the battery.

SO much stupidity, where should one begin.

First, "hidden" mic? Tell me which phones dont make their mics hidden?

And you cant hide a piece of hardware. Theres a geek taking apart an iphone every second of the day inspecting every connection.. Unless theyre putting nanobots in there, please stop talking.

For a microphone (that is apparently invisible) to be recording information constantly thats going to need somewhere to store it, or upload it, constantly. You cant hide that type of electricaal activity inside a phone.

That information can be used to track down hipsters and beat them the fuck down. That's the only purpose that justifies this spy ass nigga shit.

Do you ever think anything through?

Simon Davies, director of the pressure group Privacy International, said: "This is a worrying discovery. Location is one of the most sensitive elements in anyone's life just think where people go in the evening. The existence of that data creates a real threat to privacy. The absence of notice to users or any control option can only stem from an ignorance about privacy at the design stage."

Simon Davies is an idiot that did not read the user agreement to his iPhone, obviously. He says the absence of a notice to users can only stem from ignorance about privacy...if Apple was ignorant then they wouldn't have invested so much time and effort into putting this into the phones and NOT ANNOUNCING IT.

The iPhone system, by contrast, appears to record the data whether or not the user agrees. Apple declined to comment on why the file is created or whether it can be disabled.

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the security company Sophos, said: "If the data isn't required for anything, then it shouldn't store the location. And it doesn't need to keep an archive on your machine of where you've been." He suggested that Apple might be hoping that it would yield data for future mobile advertising targeted by location, although he added: "I tend to subscribe to cockup rather than conspiracy on things like this I don't think Apple is really trying to monitor where users are."

...and THIS idiot wants to believe that Apple has its user's best interests at heart...wonder how long he's been fucking Steve Jobs.

The location file came to light when Warden and Allan were looking for a source of mobile data. "We'd been discussing doing a visualisation of mobile data, and while Alasdair was researching into what was available, he discovered this file. At first we weren't sure how much data was there, but after we dug further and visualised the extracted data, it became clear that there was a scary amount of detail on our movements," Warden said.

They have blogged about their discovery at O'Reilly's Radar site, noting that "why this data is stored and how Apple intends to use it or not are important questions that need to be explored."

Davies said that the discovery of the file indicated that Apple had failed to take users' privacy seriously.

Oh, Apple takes it seriously. That's why they went through all this effort to put this program into their products in the first place. It's no surprise that Apple has done this, but it makes one wonder why these individuals were doing the same thing they are blasting Apple for doing...

Apple can legitimately claim that it has permission to collect the data: near the end of the 15,200-word terms and conditions for its iTunes program, used to synchronise with iPhones, iPods and iPads, is an 86-word paragraph about "location-based services".

It says that "Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device. This location data is collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you and is used by Apple and our partners and licensees to provide and improve location-based products and services. For example, we may share geographic location with application providers when you opt in to their location services."

This makes me wonder if anyone reads the contracts they sign nowadays...

or if they even read the articles they comment on.

I don't feel bad for the people who don't read the Terms of Service or Privacy Policies.

I personally only read it for certain stuff, but when you don't it's about as brainless as signing any contract or waiver without reading it, then thinking you are in a position to take legal action or make an uproar when you discover something you don't like.

The problem is most functioning adult retards in the world today, make 1,000,000 excuses for not reading. They only wanna read fast food menus, porn movie comments and their facebooger feed.

If you aren't involved with:

ohh and it's more than likely that the time stamps and geo-coord data in that 'consolidated.db' file will be used for highly targeted marketing campaigns using the iAd platform they were recently touting..

example:

Say you are Charles Jones.

You've had 5 dates in a row where you bring a crackhead with yester-year's weave to 7-11 so she can take a piss break behind the dumpster while you re-up on slim jims and freeze pops before seeing the next matinee..

Apple records the long/lat and time stamp..

They start to notice a trend..

They sell that data which is probably associated with a unique identifier..

All the sudden when Charles is listening to a Geto Boys track on pandora he gets interrupted about a dinner special Cracker Barrel or Redlobster is having within a 7 block radius.

He can use the redeemable online coupon code to wine and dine his Tgirl hooker, thus increasing his IRL value and chances of flooding the block with more crack babies.. that will one day pick a rose or possibly lobster tail from the concrete.

And that's about it.

The adverts is "likely".. unless there's a tax break for making the contract admeanable to the prying eyes of the gub-ment under the guise of (yorkshire) terrier-ist monitoring and V.S. Pastriot Acts, then there'd be more to worry about.

I wonder if you can make that 'consolidated.db' file "read-only"..
