^gross, but you know those ass-rapin killbillys (originally a typo but I thought it fit lol) got theirs in the end. I thought that movie was a masterpiece, that one scene couldn't fuck it up.
How bout in the same part you mentioned when he drinks the sprite down until the slurping of the straw noise. that shit was ice cold and didn't have to say anything

I thought I would get this thread up and running again. In the two years since I opened it,I have discovered and watched many classics I didn't know of at first. Here are some more favs:
"Deer Hunter"-speaks for itself
"Godfather"-an obvious one, that I finally watched this summer.
"Glengarry Glenross"-I just watched this last weekend, very powerful and superb acting performances. The cast is godly and perfect-Jack Lemmon,Al Pacino,Ed Harris,Kevin Spacey,Alan Arkin and Alec Baldwin.
"Once Upon A Time In The West"-This is the most epic western ever made.My Dad rented it early this year, and I have been captivated by it ever since.Sergio's Good,Bad and The Ugly, had a marvelous composition, but this movie is even better.
"Usual Suspects"-Wow,I am suprised none of us mentioned it earlier,a superb and genius crime movie.

Dragonball Z did not come to the uk until the late 90's......we didn't get much anime on tv here, that started to happen later, although we did get things such as Robotech and Gatchaman......but for me, my first exposure to proper hardcore anime was Akira. I was about 10 years old and I remember renting the subtitled version, it took me at least three viewings before I understood the whole plot.

Lol,I just watched that today.I didn't expect it to be so comedic, pretty good action as well.An anime movie I always watched when I was young, don't know if most have heard of it,"Locke The Superman" or Superpower. It is an old school classic,I have yet to find it once again.I agree with "Street Fighter II",I had the edited vhs for ever, and got the newly released dvd awhile ago, classic.Naucissa and the Valley Of the Wind" is my favorite Myazaki film,I always knew it as "Warriors of the WInd" in the US,the new dvd is awesome.

Fan of anime then! I love those you list, except Winds Of Amnesia. Maybe it was cos I was quite young when I saw it, but I remember it being incredibly boring.

If you haven't seen it, then one you really have to watch is Cyber City Oedo 808. It's directed by the guy who did Ninja Scroll and it's fuckin quality. You can't get it on dvd in the uk, but I could post you a dvd-r ofd it if you want (you are in the uk aren't you?).

Anime series I've been watching recently are (sorry, not films but hey):

Fullmetal Alchemist
Naruto
Bleach
Berserk
Serial Experiements Lain

A lot of my favourite films have already been listed on here, but another one is Grosse Pointe Blank. Because of that I'm really anticipating 'War, Inc.'

I used to think the same thing when I saw it for the first time when I was about 13 or 14, but in time it really grew on me. I just thought it had a great story and was different compared to the usual stuff that was coming out.

^^ Pretty much none of my dvds are UK ones. I've copied a few uk dvds (the Miyazaki films for instance), but most of them are asian bootlegs. Off to Thailand in december, so will be bringing back a load more.

Bought doomed Megalopolis for £3 off ebay. Didn't really like it either! Got Violence Jack for about £2 as well - I kinda agree, it was cool, but not worth seeking out. Appleseed is the original, not the recent one. Used to have it on video with Battle Angel Alita. I had the wicked City/Monster City double feature vhs as well.

The original Devilman series is cool early anime. I definately recommend it.

As for Naruto, I thought it was ok at first, but once you get through the first 20 odd episodes it gets really good.

I've only recently seen Bleach. Gonna get the dvd set in Thailand.

I really like all the Hayo Miyazaki films, they appeal to my lighter side!

TAURO

^^My friend says the same thing about Naruto but I just don't have the patience for it.

Hayo Miyazaki films are ok but it pisses me off that he gets so much attention when there are better animes out there that get ignored.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im going to try and list every anime I own, I have been collecting since I was 13 so most of them are on vhs. I haven't bought much in recent years mainly because a lot of the newer ones don't do much for me but there are exceptions of course.

^^ Samurai 7 is based on one of my favourite films of all time, The Seven Samurai.

I haven't seen the anime yet, but I understand it doesn't exactly stick to the original story (it has robots in it!).

word son.. Samurai 7 is ILL.. basically stretches the Seven Samurai story a bit and adds sci fi elements as the setting is in the future.

you can watch it for free @ www.tv-links.co.uk but the site is down atm..
