I had never listened to this first album from the Geto Boys before. It's sounding like Run DMC so far? Thoughts on it?

I like

Where is Face?

Notice it's spelled Geto, not GHetto?

Yeah, the album was originally spelled Ghetto, but was changed later on. Scarface and Willie D weren't original members.

i never heard it but considering there's totally different members in the group i would count "Grip It!" as the first real Geto Boys album. this is worth checking though?

Well I'd still consider it a Geto Boys album, as two of the original members(Bushwick Bill and DJ Ready Red) go on to be on the 'Grip It! On That Other Level album'. Plus, another one of the original members(Johnny C) has some production on the Grip it album also.

There are some songs I like on this Making Trouble album, but it's definitely not as hardcore as their stuff that comes later on. It reminds me of a Run DMC NY style album.

ah, yes. the first (and forgotten) geto boys album. pre scarface, willie dee & rapping bushwick.

i remember listening to this after i heard the hip hop classic "grip it! on that other level".

what a fuckin let down.
it sounds like run dmc/fat boys karaoke.
it has a joint or 2 on it. but they DAMN sure changed the group for the better.
"assassins" is on there. they remade that song with the other geto boys line up also.

o.g. version of assassins

and the scarface, bushwick & willie dee version

I haven't heard this album in many years but I do recall that it's shit. I'm a big fan of early Geto Boys but this one is just not good. I think I liked 'Assassins' but just trying to think of it now I can only get the later version with what became the real Geto Boys, in my head, so I'm not sure.

From what I recall although Bushwick was a part of the original line up he was only a dancer for the group. He didn't start rapping until they changed the lineup.

The first 3 albums after they changed the line up are 3 of my favourite hip hop albums of all time. That's counting 'Grip it...' and the self titled one as the same album, which it more or less is. 'Geto Boys', 'We Can't Be Stopped' and 'Til Death Do Us Part'. Along with Ganksta NIP's 'South Park Psycho' far and away the best hip hop albums ever to come out of the south. Nothing else even comes close imo.
