Still haven't addressed Qwel who obviously has a more complex rhyme scheme and better punchlines.
Em's storytelling is better, but Em's storytelling isn't the best.
I'd probably consider Nas the best storyteller, if I had to choose.

Since I'm in a position to talk to these kids and they listen
I ain't no politician but I'll kick it with em a minute
Cause see they call me a menace and if the shoe fits I'll wear it
But if it don't, then ya'll swallow the truth grin and bear it
Now who's the king of these rude ludicrous lucrative lyrics
Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics
Using his music to steer it sharing his views in his marriage
But there's a huge interference they're sayin you shouldn't hear it
Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish
But I'm debated disputed hated and viewed in America
as a motherfuckin drug addict like you didn't experiment?
Now now, that's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror
and see yourself as a kid again, and you get embarrassed
And I got nothing to do but make you look stupid as parents
You fuckin do-gooders - too bad you couldn't DO-GOOD at marriage!
And do you have any clue what I had to do to get here I don't
think you do so stay tuned and keep your ears glued to the stereo

See I'm a poet to some, a regular modern day Shakespeare
Jesus Christ the King of these Latter Day Saints here
To shatter the picture in which of that as they paint me
as a mother of hate, Satan and scatter-brained atheist
But that ain't the case, see it's a matter of taste
We as a people decide if Shady's as bad as they say he is
Or is he the ladder, a gateway to escape?
Media scapegoat, they can be mad at today
See it's as easy as cake, simple as whistling Dixie
while I'm wavin the pistol at sixty Christians against me
Go to war with the Mormons, take a bath with the Catholics
in holy water no wonder they try to hold me under longer
I'm a motherfuckin spiteful, delightful eyeful
The new Ice Cube, motherfuckers hate to like you
What did I do? (huh) I'm just a kid from the gutter
makin this butter off these bloodsuckers, cause I'm a muh'fuckin

illest verses ever by a rapper...the multi's and shit were on point.

People want to hate what's popular, i agree with OP

Basically

People nowadays love to be like "Eminem fell off, he was so much better back in the day, he needs to go back to that shit"

Problem is I had the internet back in high school when the MMLP dropped and just as many people had negative shit to say about that album, "This shit is garbage, Shock Rap, only selling cause he's a white boy dissing pop stars, stole his style from Cage & Esham...." and blah blah blah

I dont think he's the best ever but people act like he's not in the conversation at all, when he's really not a terrible pick for a favorite MC, his music is good most the time, but since he sells the most your not allowed to say that..........

Way of the world tho when you think about it, any job you work at, the guy who gets the biggest raise or the best hours is the one everybody is talking about in the breakroom, like "Fuck that dude, I work 10 x''s harder then him, he only got that promotion cause he kisses ass, I should have that shift" and so on and so on

I take Eminem's haters with a grain of salt because I'll sit there and watch people say he's just another "Punchline Shock Value Rapper" and then turn around and give props to Chino XL, or say he needs to "Quit crying about his life" and then turn around and give props to Joe Budden.........

His success just turns off the Too Cool for the Room Underground Douche Bags, he's not the best but if you really think theres a Hundred rappers better then him like some dude up top said, your delusional

The hidden meanings in Qwel's songs are pretty crazy. Not quite as cryptic as Aesop, but the parrallelism in The Highest Commitment is dope. It's not a song about a girl, it's a song about weed. His punchlines are far better than Big L's, anyone who thinks otherwise didn't understand half of them.

Broken Wing: Verse 1

G4 fo sure, we're goin to war son
On his snide pride lyin with a smile and forked tongue
Stealin with his eyes, chillin back of the forefront
Will's design to ill the mind, but here the fourth horse comes
Screamin come freedom in this season of drought
Masonic demons meet in secret, we believe it aloud
Without the greedy, grubbin, ducky hands just feet in the clouds
Swingin sickle at these anti Christos, keeping us down
Blingin, heathen at this bloody freak-nic, geekin to drown
Crowds of weekend warriors, but Meaty seeked so we found
Never peace on this earth, reserved for sleep in the ground
Awaken only perfect in to keep the weakness without
But who's that creepin in the teachin without speakin a sound?
The loudest deacon fell asleep and shrouds his speech with a doubt
Yah's fallen singer, fingers you down to scheme and a shout
Blinded eyes screamin, "why?" tryin to beef with the how

sure, EM has some interesting shit once in a while like that verse posted earlier - but you're lucky if that's 1 outta 10 songs.
also, due to the threadstarter not even being sure about his own definition of what emceeing is, i will never take his opinion about who is a good emcee seriously.

I feel like I'm walking a tight rope, without a circus net
I'm popping percocets, I'm a nervous wreck
I deserve respect; but I work a sweat for this worthless check
Bout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debt
Minimum wage got my adrenaline caged
Full of venom and rage
Especially when I'm engaged
And my daughter's down to her last diaper
That's got my ass hyper
I pray that god answers, maybe I'll ask nicer
Watching ballers while they flossing in their pathfinders
These overnight stars becoming autograph signers
We all long to blow up and leave the past behind us
Along with the small fry's and average half pinters
While player haters turn bitch like they have vaginas
Cause we see them dollar signs and let the cash blind us
Money will brainwash you and leave your ass mindless
Snakes slither in the grass spineless

Information begins to gathering
Starting to pattering the Stargate towards Saturn
Between the eye socket is where I'll build my skyrocket
You don't need any passport, all you need is a thought
Suddenly the soul becomes hot as coal
The flame blows from out my brain holes like a volcano
The brain begins to process
As we start the conquest from out the physical bondage
The thought launches, voyaging 144 billion light years
Through the shadows of your imagination
Now open your eyes, do you see the flaming arrows aiming at pharaohs' inhabitation'
As we begin to race in like a sparrow through the narrow population
Seeking purification, the destination is the Holy Land of Bethlehem
To eat lamb with Abraham and break bread with the Son of Man
To slowly hold these hands and stretch forth from the skies like a rubber band
As we begin to snap you above the land out of the atmosphere
Don't look back, why' We 'Almost There'
Just trying to prepare and adapt to the air pressure
Now we searching for the mental treasure
Pleasure beyond the measure of yards
You can't comprehend the god or the distance between stars
Picking up quasars inside the radars, we going far past any astronaut
Moving so fast in this aircraft, everything we pass get hot
From the takeoff, the blast turn the glass into rocks
At last my supreme task was no longer to walk on green grass
'Til I become a beam of gas and travel through extreme draft
Unable to be picked up through cable
Out of the reach of all manners of sky examiners
Heaven scanners, giant antennas and high-tech space cameras
No evidence in any cemetery obituary
Not found in any library or dictionary or encyclopaedia or media
I'm in star mode with the discipline of Darmo, I broke the US barcode
Now I'm on Allah's road to journey in the realms of the Cosmos
Where only God knows or goes
Blow like the UFO that gave out my work clothes
Only to glow with a holy robe
Explode through the mysterious black holes
Deep warp through the outer zone without a phone
To the unknown, to sit on my throne alone (Heavy Mental)
The pilot on his galactic plane of knowledge through culture
My sculpture lights up in ultraviolet
So you could see my brain is symbolic to a palace
Therefore, keep my hair stylish
My flesh solid and my teeth polished
Next stage, examine my x-ray
Take notes for your essay and let the cassette play for longer than a decade
As we begin to blaze through the Milky Ways
Repent from our filthy ways, replenish from the guilty days
The eyeballs swell up the size of eggs
Neon dreamland, wingspan seven feet, between my eyes is the beak
Destination of the ride is to reach is the peak
Angelical landscape to take the physical man behind the hidden gates of space
Ultimate skates and we go through a phenomenal rate
As we cruise going into magnitude
As we break up into a multitude of molecules
Going through a long hollow tube with a scholar's view
As we wearing the white garment, passing sound waves are supersonic
Passing the comets, star clusters
Changing my physical structure 'til my lip begin to pucker
Kissing Christ at the Last Supper
Grabbing a brass cup of wine (Heavy Mental)
I feel my cells getting older
Sitting on my sofa in the position like yoga
'Til my mind passes over the Solar System
My wisdom novas, I am the controller
I begin to loosen up my shoulders forming each joint
Into the Sun's eight points
Then I begin to rise like helium
Escape in the millennium 2000
Meditate to the soft notes of a violin
I've been on Mars building the holy synagogues for the royal seminars
Long before they had the Renaissance
There existed a Hebrew lodge (Heavy Mental)
A phenomenon from out of the matrix
The world looks at me with envy and hatred
Just because I appear to them half naked rising into a spaceship
With an arm full of solid gold bracelets
A phenomenon from out of the matrix (Heavy Mental)

I doubt he'd put himself in the top 10, if he were asked about it.

If we're starting with Kool G Rap.
There's also no disputing that Ghostface Killah and Chef Raekwon are both better mcs than Eminem.

How is those 4 G Rap lines any better than Eminem? G Rap/Rakim created the style, Eminem mastered it.

They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you , and cock it too
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault and i'll get sued
See what these kids do is hear about us totin' pistols
And they want to get one cause they think the shit's cool
Not knowin' we really just protectin' ourselves, we entertainers
Of course the shit's affectin' our sales, you ignoramus
But music is reflection of self, we just explain it, and then we get our
checks in the mail
It's fucked up ain't it
How we can come from practically nothing to being able to have any fuckin'
thing that we wanted
That's why we sing for these kids, who don't have a thing
Except for a dream, and a fuckin' rap magazine
Who post pin-up pictures on their walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives
Till they sit and they cry at night wishin' they'd die
Till they throw on a rap record and they sit, and they vibe
We're nothin' to you but we're the fuckin' shit in they eyes
That's why we seize the moment try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and
hold it
Cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our
songs and we can...

lyricism doesn't really get any better than this.

Sadistik:
He's only released 1 album & 1 EP, so far.
He has 3 albums on the way.

From Save Yourself

Iím a desperate, desolate mess of skeletons
Who second guesses questions, intentions when all the messages
Mix and sections of skin are left dissected and ripped, infected
With pestilent hexes that exorcists fix, so check it
I got two bad hands and still built this house of cards
Just an average Jack up in the Club who thinks he found a Heart
....
The silence is talking, walk-in, weíve all been in coffins
Hostage to cautious responses, solemn and lost in the nonsense
Often I follow my conscience, bottle and swallow my problems
Wallow in hollow with processes, toxic hostile menages
Itís just another itchy finger that I know expects to pull it
And Iím in the line of fire every time youíre sweating bullets

And this song probably wouldn't make my top 5 by Sadistik. (Only has 17, so far.)

There is no best that ever lived because were not talking about something tangible, we're talking about something that exists only in the mind of the person asked

My opinion, talent wise, Big Punisher is the greatest rapper that ever lived........ I dont care how wrong somebody says I am for having that opinion either because its irrelevant, thats what I think and if you dont agree, you can go fuck your mother for all I care

Qwel has a good flow, discography, rhyme scheme, creativity, punchlines, message, metahpors, concepts, internals, multis etc.

Old stuff is good, but... better than Pharoahe Monch? anyone from Freestyle Fellowship & Project Blowed (especially Myka 9, Abstract Rude, & Aceyalone)?

and as others have already said.... Kool G Rap, Ghostface, Raekwon....

You could maybe argue he has better storytelling than Rakim or KRS, or a better flow than GZA (especially nowadays) or Chuck D, but any of the dudes mentioned above could slay him.

IMO, Monch alone would have him beat in just about every category he's good at - multisyllable flow, punchlines, storytelling...

show me where Eminem has ever spit like this over a beat:

why is this thread still active?

we can all agree Eminem is good, we all can agree hes not AS good as threadstarter believes, we can all agree threadstarter is a faggot and we can ALL agree that the threadstarter is a faggot

Sure, we can agree about all of that.

Especially the part about the threadstarter being a faggot.

Don't worry Style, the OP will DL Monch's discog and a couple of weeks from now he'll make a thread about how his skills are unparalled and no MC in history holds a candle to his legacy.

"It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie. Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me. "

I'd put him over a few of those... but then i'd pile a few more above them.

Big Pun was way ahead of Slim.
Ghost is ahead of him.
Priest is ahead of him....

The blast, burns back into elements
Development of gas around the mass of the Earth
A hundred and ninty six million
Now a hundred and forty thousand miles are occupied
By people causin housin
Over this the mind was just browsin
Thougt I was warm coats, I dispose hope
Of the focus and roast energy toward the enemy
Now in burnin G's, chemically enforce infinity
Attack, third eye, what occured my, vocal form into a storm
Went blaow burnin but left him in the crowd wonderin
Now you wonder on many thoughts you ponder fell asleep
Tryin to seek the beyonder while I would ponder microphones
Recitin poems, strikin domes to your frightening moans -- of HORROR!
Speakin evil Hebrew from the Torah
Slammed the mic it turned to a serpent, open the curtains
Saw things he couldn't interpret, destroyed the Earth
Fill it with gunpowder, came build sun power
Rebuild it in one hour
Then revealed it through a sunflower shared the shower
Showin the power of the North Messiah eyes on fire
Water oxygen you can't comprehend to these strange doc-trines
Stop the winds, beyond the orbits of Dionne Warwick
With no broomsticks and magic tricks is this
Return of the Iron Maiden
Stomp your corny ass like the Raven
What's the matter? You frostbitten, you lost your mittens
It seem you wanted to cross to smitten
Sec-ret morse from the Christians

I'm not posting youtube vids. If you don't have Capital Punishment, Supreme, and Heavy Mental then you shouldn't even be forming an opinion on who the G.O.A.T. is.

IMO Eminem only has 2 GOOD albums, Infinite just sounds like a Nas impression (he's even said it himself that he wasn't on point yet, didn't want anyone to hear it).

Slim Shady LP was sick cause Em was new to the scene and was still rapping about how fucked up his life was.

Marshall Mathers LP was ill because he was striking back against all his haters, all the shitty people that wrote bad review, that banned his LP, his family members that crawled out of the woodwork.

After that everything was great, he won Grammy's for albums that should have never made it out of the studio.

The sad part is that all his freestyles are nasty, he just can't convert it to LP cause he uses such shit beats and shit subject matter.

fuck sakes.....you faggots actually think Pharoahe Monch is better than Em? really? Really? REALLLY!!?!?

Eminem's lower caliber verses are better than Monch's best....

The people that hate Em are either:
niggaz who are jealous that a white person is better than all the black rappers.
self loathing wiggers who say he sucks to sound cool

^^ Is it that diss song he mentioned on "Not Afraid", if I remember, that he decided not to release because it sucks?

maybe, thats the only reason i can't really hold it against him, he knew it was bad and didn't want it released. there was a bootleg EP of leaked tracks from that period, i've only heard that track and a "i get money" track where he talks about Jay and Kanye being considered the best because he's not black.

and for the record, i liked a couple of tracks on Recovery.
