So the Masta Ace/DOOM record (MA Doom: Son of Yvvone) was being touted for a Jan '12 release but still no word on it since before Christmas.

Ace was making a lot of noise about it then but nothing since. Anyone have any new info?

I got a chance to talk to Masta Ace yesterday via Ustream and he told me that the project is 85% done. He still has to get some more lyrics from MF in order to complete the project. Thanks for your time son.

funny was just checking a preview of this...

dope ACE interview where he plays a few joints...

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.18412/title.masta-ace-addresses-mc-shan-marley-marl-beef-previews-mf-doom-collaboration

tracks start around 30 minutes in...

i was a little iffy about him reusing the special herbs beats... but i gotta admit he sounds really good over the joints he previewed...

still kinda frustrating though.. really want ace to buckle down and drop that follow up LP to A LONG HOT SUMMER... he finally decides to drop some new solo shit and its over beats we already heard... DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!

either way im all about new MASTA ACE material!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one Angry! ... (Would love a proper long hot summer pt2)

Sounds cool from the snippets. He chose well by the looks of things regarding beats :)

And it seems like he has been sensible by delaying so as to get DOOM vocals as that will seriously bump up sales (DOOM's fans are notoriously loyal...check my user name...and buy up all records with his features)

Should be a good year for DOOM fans after long delays. Madvillainz, JJ DOOM & Swift & Changeable on the horizon. Good looks :D

The cover's not horrible but they should try to incorporate a DOOM visual into it, since its a collaboration record. The background with the colors is easy on the eyes but drop the rest of it and overlay somethin better. Or just scrap the whole thing.

I'm thinkin this is gonna be one hell of an album though.

^^Probably sitting next to DOOMStarks. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for either one. And add the sequel to Madvillain to that too. Hopefully I'm wrong and they release all of these eventually.

"is this shit seriously coming out before the Ghostface album? "

well what do you think is the easier & faster of the 2 albums to release? Ace's album with all old Special Herbs that only require his lyrics...or GFK's album which requires both of their rhymes plus all NEW production from Doom

Produced entirely by MF DOOM

Following the success of two collaborative releases (EMC “The Show”/2008 and Ace & Edo G “Arts & Entertainment” /2009), Masta Ace joins forces with the metal faced MF Doom for Son of Yvonne, a highly personal concept album that celebrates the life and legacy of Ace’s recently departed Mother. Like his 2004 landmark Disposable Arts, Son of Yvonne is meticulously constructed with stories, settings, and characters that resonate with flesh and bone humanity. Interstitial vignettes provide a thematic backbone to the experience, and each track complements and completes the previous to form a narrative whole: a sometimes visceral, sometimes nostalgic slice of Ace’s young life in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Entirely underscored by MF Doom’s iconic Special Herbs instrumentals, Son of Yvonne features the Juice Crew general Big Daddy Kane, new comers Pav Bundy (The Bundies), Reggie B and even MF Doom on the mic. It’s Masta Ace’s no frills flow, however, that looms largest above the dusty samples and digger loops that define Doom’s production. Ace’s photo-realistic rhymes about stick-up kids, spraycan artists and wack emcees add extra gravity to his already celebrated reputation as “truly an under-appreciated rap veteran and underground luminary” (Allmusic Guide). Like Eminem recalls in his 2008 autobiography The Way I Am, “Masta Ace had amazing storytelling skills. His thoughts were so vivid.”

i like this. i'm not blown away, but i think its cuz i already heard these beats mad times. ace spits dope, as expected. that big daddy kane guest spot is a blessing. ace chose dope beats, but i feel like they're the most widely used doom beats; probably buggin with that, tho.

all in all this is fresh. i gotta let it marinate a little more, search the rhymes a little bit.

also: why do skits still exist?
