oh dip - that song is the craziest shit

i have a documentary on billie holiday where it shows some pictures from the first time she performed it live and tells the story - she performed it in front of an audience full of strictly white folk and she sung her heart out and when she was done the room went completely silent - then all the sudden after a minute one person starts clapping, then the entire room gives a standing ovation

it was deep

and that's lyrics are harsh man, billie's my girl - she's the best that ever did it

how trees bring and give life yet are used to portray death of not a person but an example to a people , after the lynching from the tree they would either cut off pieces or burn the body , strange that people who thought blacks were dirty would want to have a keepsake from one they lynched. heard that picnic has to do with that whites having a lynching and clipping body parts with a meal brought along snack. other versions i would have to search, but if they're any good i'd make a cd called seedlings of strange fruit for my own listening while the world broils in its sickening ever quicking.
