Supposed to be the mandarin

Also I'm guessing Guy Pearce's character will play some kind of friend turned villain role...

http://cdn1.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/guy-pearce-as-killian.jpg

According to Variety, Pearce will play the geneticist Aldrich Killian. For those who arenít familiar with Iron Man lore, Killian and Maya Hansen (Tony Starkís old friend) create the Extremis technology, which was a tool designed for the military that allowed nanotechnology to bond to a human. But when the military pulled the funding for the project, Killian decides to test Extremis out in a much more nefarious way.

lol
In the comics, that dude blew his brains out after appearing in like 1 or 2 scenes after realizing terrorists had the Extremis technology (or something like that...it's been like 6 years since I read that)

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/173329-does-the-mandarin-have-a-connection-to-captain-america

http://cdn1.superherohype.com/images/stories/2012/October/cap-tattoo.jpg

One of the most exciting treats revealed in today's Iron Man 3 trailer is that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark directly references the events of Marvel's The Avengers and his hardships during the battle of New York. That's a strong suggestion that, moving forward, Marvel Studios plans to fully embrace the continuity of its cinematic universe. It also makes all the more curious the tattoo that Ben Kingsley's Mandarin has on the back of his neck.

As you can see in the still frame below, the design appears to depict Captain America's iconic shield. It's a little harder to tell if the "A" in the middle is supposed to be an Avengers "A" or a variation on the "Anarchy" symbol. Either way, it appears that the character has a specific interest in either Steve Rogers specifically or in the team as a whole. Although it's purely speculation at this point, the Mandarin could even wind up having ties to the still-unknown plot of Captain America: The Winter Solider. If you've got any theories, share them below!

Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale and Jon Favreau and is slated to hit theaters in 2D and 3D on May 3, 2013.

Joss Whedonís Reaction to ĎIron Man 3′ Ending

Itís been what, two weeks since the last Iron Man 3 poster was revealed? That kind of laziness simply wonít do. Fortunately, IMAX is here to save the day with a new poster featuring the whole gang. Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) clutch each other while supporting characters look on somberly, and little Iron Men fly around in the background.

All of it portends some serious drama, but most of us wonít know what exactly happens in the film for another several weeks. As part of the Marvel family, though, Joss Whedon got a little sneak peek. And according to studio head Kevin Feige, he had quite a reaction to the Iron Man 3 ending. Read about his comments and check out the new poster after the jump.

2 Kids and a Coupon (via Cinema Blend) attended a recent press event with Feige, where he revealed Whedonís reaction.

Ö.We have what I think is the biggest, you know, most action packed finale weíve had. I showed the film to Joss Whedon who is our writer-director of Avengers, is currently working on Avengers 2, and he saw the finale of this and he goes, now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?

Avengers itself had a pretty kick-ass ending, so if Whedonís impressed Iím prepared to be dazzled as well. Iím happy to see the Marvel team keep trying to top themselves ó that just means thereís more great stuff for us fans ahead.

As for the IMAX poster, itís literally just a composite of all the other posters released so far. Take this one featuring Tony and Pepper front and center, then copy and paste in the character posters for The Mandarin, Aldrich Killian, and James Rhodes. And it borrows from more than a few pervasive poster design trends, what with the blue/orange color scheme, the crowded character layout, the cloudy background and the floating debris / sparks.

Itís not exactly the most original bit of marketing, then. But itís reminding me (once again) about the movie without detracting from my interest in it, so mission accomplished, I guess.

^^^Yes

My take (no spoilers)...

Watched this yesterday, pretty good overall, better then the second I thought but not as good as the first. Doesn't feel like an Ironman movie though, mainly cos it's not all about the suits in this film, this is more of a Tony Stark movie with appearances by Ironman :)

Good - Good storyline, Mark 42 suit concept is ill, final 15 minutes is amazing!
Bad - Noticeable plot holes and there's a twist with one of the bad guys which I thought was a fail.

Good ending to the trilogy overall and is wrapped up nicely at the end ^O^

Yeah the bad guy twist was a bit of a fail imo.

SPOILER TIME...

Also I thought the ending didnt make sense, he got the shrapnel removed from his body, I thought it wasnt possible, hence the reason he wore that shit in his chest.

My Thoughts (NO SPOILERS)

Saw it yesterday. I enjoyed it very much and I do think it was better than the second film, still think the first was the best.

A lot of comedy in this one but fortunately it worked, it was weird to hear an audience laugh so much during a comicbook movie.

Although there is some great iron man action scenes most of the time he's not wearing the suit.

I liked the villains in this one quite a bit and the twist on one of the villains I have to admit was a ballsy move as I think most fanboys won't like it but I appreciated what they tried to do. I will say that they were the best villains of the three films.

Don Cheadle was put to good use in this movie and I liked his role within the government as the War Machine/Iron Patriot but they should have explained the paint job given that captain america is around.

I really liked the journey of Tony Starks character in this one and they did cap it off well as the end of a franchise.

I loved this movie...can't get into detail without spoiling stuff so I wont bother.
When I saw the "villain plot twist" I was like: what?
But in the end, I thought it worked for the movie.
Yeah fans of the comics (I never read the comics, saw the cartoon a couple of times tho') maybe wont like the twist all that much but in terms of the movie and the universe Marvel has set up since the first Iron Man, it worked for me.

It was literally copying elements from Batman....

1) Villain twist is exactly the same as Batman Begin's Ras Al Ghul's & TDKR's Talia Al Ghul
2) As mentioned, hes out of his suit for the majority of the film just with minimal appearances by Ironman just like TDKR.

True.

But for me this movie did it better...I dunno, maybe I like the comic book elements of Iron Man 3 more than the "realistic" elements of TDKR but I liked the Tony Stark parts more in Iron Man 3 than I did the Bruce Wayne parts in TDKR...

did not appreciate the twist... i feel duped

for being that long they could have brought one more action scene in...

the suits at the end were cool, but i feel could have been used a bit more.
as for Marvel for this year, i think wolverine or thor will be the one people talk about more, because of the quality...

anyone know why jon favreau didnt direct this movie?

Just saw it, I enjoyed it and it was certainly entertaining. I still think IM2>IM1>IM3.

For me it was too comedic at times were it didn't needed to be. I liked the plan of the main villain, but certainly didn't like the twist because of the character they were using. By doing that it lost the connection I thought the movie had with the first film.

man.......this movie was DOPE!

ballsy move by the studio to go with a story driven action comedy where stark is maybe in his armor for 20 minutes, but it worked really well for me.

and since i never gave a fuck about the mandarin, i really liked what they did with him.

plus the movie is actually funny.

all in all its a great piece of character development for tony stark after avengers. much more entertaining than nolan's 3rd batman mess.

and if they lose downey as stark then just kill movie iron man off for a while cause you damn sure aint gonna be able to replace him anytime soon.

My problem with the Nolan movies (if you can call it that cause I still like TDK trilogy) is that maybe they were so rooted in realism they lost the comic book flair for me (Batman Forever and Batman and Robin aren't comic book adaptations, they're just badly written and acted comedies). After all, it's "only" Batman, a comic book character.
Iron Man 3 was indeed more realistic and it can come over as "jacked" from TDK trilogy.
But it didn't lose itself in its realism and kept it's roots in the comic books and that's why I liked this movie, and liked it more than TDKR.

Ben Kingsley as the 'Mandarin' was the shit. Did he actually kill that oil guy on national TV? Or did they pan away from his gun & only focus on his face & sound of the bullet?

"Well you see....I had problems, with certain substances OK"
"They said they would..."

Stark: "Lemme guess the said they'd get you off the drugs?"
