which hip-hop albums would you say people should own. they dont neccessarily have to be classics.

mine:

My definitive albums

1. Wu-Tang Clan – Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu-Tang are my favorite group (of all time). This album is a straight up classic, without a doubt. So much so I’ll give it 11/10. The best album I ever heard. Grimey beats, with sharp, hard-hitting, meaningful lyrics. Especially “Da Mystery Of Chessboxin”, this is an example on how to rhyme.

2. Wu-Tang Clan – Wu-Tang Forever
This album in my opinion is a step down to their first album, Enter The Wu, but it still has the Grimey beats with sharp lyrics. Some tracks are more melodic type music, but this album is still sick! RZA is the master a dropping knowledge in his music. Tell about “Triumph”.

3. Jurassic 5 – Jurassic 5 LP
This album is almost a classic, I’ve known of these guys for about 3 years but didn’t think much to them when I first them, 3 years ago. I recently tried listening to a couple of tracks and loved what I was hearing. So in quick succession I bought all 3-group albums and now rate them as my second favourite group. The production by the two DJ’s, Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark is such a different style of Hip-Hop, I cant really describe it, the closest I could come is to say, Break beats. And the emceeing, that’s hard to describe too, its of an old school style though, taking all four emcee’s and making them as one vocal for the hooks. All I can say is that I really recommend it, its different but a really good different.

4. Jurassic 5 – Power In Numbers

5. Masta Killa – Masta Killa

6. O.D.B – Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version

7. GZA – Liquid Swords

8. Ghostface Killah – Ironman

9. 7L & Esoteric – DC2: Bars Of Death

10. Inspectah Deck – The Movement

11. Raekwon – Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

12. Public Enemy – It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back

13. Gang Starr – Moment of Truth

14. Public Enemy – Fear Of A Black Planet

15. Public Enemy – Apocalypse 91…The Enemy Strikes Back

16. Gang Starr – Step In The Arena

17. Gang Starr – The Ownerz

18. Eminem – Infinite

19. Snoop (Doggy) Dogg – Doggystyle

20. Dr.Dre – The Chronic

21. N.W.A. – Straight Outta Compton

22. Nas – I Am…

23. Nas – Illmatic

24. 50 Cent – Guess Who’s Back

25. Onyx – Shut ‘Em Down

26. Dr.Dre – Pretox Mixtape

27. Cypress Hill – Black Sunday

28. Run DMC – Raising Hell

29. Rahzel – Greatest Knockouts

30. Pete Rock – Soul Survivor

oldies list was decent, but still so many albums which should be in a hip hop fans collection. i don't really agree with puttin "NaS - I Am " in there and not including "it was written" or "lost tapes". anyway, its all opinions. i would have:

1. Wu Tang Fist Generation: Every Album
2. Wu Tang Second Generation: Supreme Clientele, Beneath The Surface, Uncontrolled Substance, Wu Forever, Immobilarity, Judgement Day:2000.
3. NaS - Illmatic, It Was Written, Lost Tapes
4. Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside
5. Big L - Life Styles of da.....
6. J5 - LP, power in numbers
7. Blackstar
8. talib kweli - train of thought
9. Mos Def - BOBS
10. Outkast - ATliens
11. The Roots - do you want more, illadelph halflife
12. Mobb Deep - Hell on earth, infamous, HNIC
13. Big - ready to die
14. JMT - psycho social..., violent by design
15. immortal tech - all
16. gravediggaz - 6 feet deep
17. dre - the chronic
18. snoop - doggystyle
19. cypress hill - temples of boom, black sunday,
20. DITC - DITC
21. De La Soul - 3 feet high....
22. Canibus - Mic club, rip the jacker
25. 7l and esoteric - dangerous connections
26. big pun - capital punishment
27. ras kass - soul on ice
28. gza Vs muggs - grandmasters (dunno bout this one, but its dope)

hm, this list seems to long, yet it seems like ive left heaps of shit out. these are dope album anyway. pretty much the only disc needed is 36 chambers. all stems from there.

Basically all the essential shit like Run DMC, Rakim, Kane, Wu-Tang, Slick Rick, Mobb Deep, Gang Starr and so on......if people would listen to this thoroughly they would understand hiphop these days is mostly pure crap

Just imagine a world without fake hiphop like G-Unit *sigh*

Well both are pretty old and dated but if you take in to consideration when they came out both albums are really orginal and influenced alot of MCs.
