10/10 Dooms First Shit Is Classic. Not A Single Weak Song On The Album And The Skits At Least Tell A Story. Dooms Wordplay Throughout The Album Is Amazing And The Buttery Flow Is At Its Best. Bow Down

the more i listen to it and understand it, over time
the better it gets
actually the beats are nice, yaknow
most undaground rap has truly appaling beats with no rhythm or melody to them at all.
the whole shit kicks ass
MF has a dpoe flow and some king major rhymes

red and gold is about the 115th song to sample 'shoot em up movies' tho

A true classic album.....personally its on the top three in my list. The flow and beats are just what makes a nigga proud he listens to hiphop. I just love the album from begining to end..."rhymes like dymes", "red and gold", "operation greenbacks", "mic" are just some of the many tracks I so dearly love. I trully hope they reissue this album so I could purchase a couple this time lol.

2nd favorite album of 2006, and my 2nd favorite multi-disc hip-hop album ever. Brilliant album. It's the type of album where if someone isn't feelin' it, then I can't really vibe with that person on a hip-hop level. Whenever I hear a Grimm album, it's like watching a great film drama.

This shit is so damn classic. It's the defenition of a creative jewel from the underground that just takes hold of you. This shit has got such a funky ass feel to it that takes you back into the time they used those samples blendin' with DOOM's creative rhymes about hood life and a very constant flow. 10/10 all day.

Shit is mad overrated imo. It's a good album, but nothing amazing. It's actually my least favourite Doom album aside from DangerDoom. I think the best track on it is actually Grimm's Tick Tick cut. I do quite like the album. I just don't think it's anything special.

I think its a real good album, lots of fresh sounds. I am a big fan of this album, I spent alot of money getting hold of the OG copy, but I dont consider it a classic.

It works because it uses great samples. Its real simple, if you got good samples, you got good hip hop. Doom knows his music, so this isnt a problem for him (unlike 99% of backpack producers jumping on the hip hop bandwagon).

His drums I believe are sampled directly from alot of late 80's early 90's hip hop, so theyre solid, and their always on time, another rarerity with underground producers.

As far as Doom on the mic, there are a couple of important things that make up for the lack of variation during his raps. First is the extreme wetness in his voice in most songs, and the other is how densely packed with vocab they are. He doesnt know how to write a hook, but his high quality samples again make up for this on the chorus parts.

Album is let down by poor mixing though, although some may view this as a ammenable aspect of the album that adds character. There is a real lack of structure on most songs, bascially just a guy spitting freestyle styled rhymes over nice samples.

But again sing-songy lines sprinkled along verses, that reaply in your head long after listening pull the album away from medicrity without because of lack of song structure, but only just. Doom actually has good basic rhythem in his verses, and at this point he was still rhyming with beat.

But it does what it does nice, its a very light, airy type of album in my head. Its hard to believe songs like 'Go With The Flow' didnt influence Supreme Clientele at all, but we're led to believe GFK never heard of DOom until recently, which I do believe, its just very spookily similar.

A quick word on the guest spots, Megalon aka Tommy Gunn is one of my favorite UG rappers so of course he ripped it raw no rubber, MF Grimm was brilliant on Tick Tick, and Kurious had the verse of his career on "?". I have to add Bobitto was extremely annoying and gay on the end of rhymes like dimes, I have to skip that.

Special Herbs and Spices Volume 1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Special Herbs + Spices Vol. 1 is the third collaboration album released between American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) rappers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapping) MF DOOM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MF_DOOM) and MF Grimm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MF_Grimm), released in 2004 (see 2004 in music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_in_music)) on Grimm's own Day By Day Entertainment label (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_label). Unlike their previous works, this CD is solely focused on MF Grimm's rhyming over MF DOOM's production. The first ingredient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingredient) of each song title is a reference to the corresponding track from DOOM's Special Herbs series of instrumental albums.

Miscellanea

Due to their falling out in early 2006, this is most likely the last collaboration between both artists.
The song "My Love" was scheduled to be included on Grimm's triple CD album, American Hunger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Hunger). However, due to the falling out between Doom and Grimm, the lyrics and beat were drastically altered and the name of the track was tweaked to "Still My Love".
