I've been reading lately about these conflict diamonds. I've known about them before but i wanted to get a lil more in depth about them. Most people have no idea about the amount destruction the "girls best friend" --diamonds, is causing to the country of Sierra Leone (Western Africa) and its people. Sierra Leone aint the only country thats doing this.

These diamonds come from areas in Africa that are controlled by groups that oppose the legitimate governments. The Revolutionary United Front (RUF) is a rebel force that has controlled the diamond fields since 1991. The treatment that the people of Sierra Leone get is just cruel and it disgusts me whenever i read about it. Its incredibly sad. The RUF killed about 75,000 people during their attack to secure control over Sierra Leone--- the country that contains the most diamonds in the world. The RUF then sells there diamonds earning millions of dollars, becoming more powerful and commiting more grueling acts to the people to speed up work.

We see nowadays in hip hop its all competition about who can bling the most. I remember seeing Mike Jones flash his chain that says "Ice Age", does he know the things people went through to dig up those diamonds (that is if there conflict ones, which they probably are)?

There have been reforms passed lately in the past couple years but i doubt those have done anything.

Next time you pick up a diamond, think to your self, "Did someone die for this diamond?"

Heres some good sites that give alotta info and videos about whats going on:
