The diversion was them saying it was the image of a cartoonish devil face, when that part is actually the nostrils and the mouth portion of an incredible head image of the ancient African war god Mulungu, it's face covered on the sides (think like a knights chain mail), and with a giant wooly afro coming forth out of it.
