I believe it was the Geto Boys who had some horror related content in their rap, but they didn't straight up do a whole cd of it...Body Count didn't release an album until 92, Esham released Boomin words from hell in 1990 but he hates for his music to be called that he called it Acid Rap instead. Flatliners and Grave Diggaz were marketed as horrorcore.

Yeah I saw that too. He said it was unsuccessful though.

they called themselves "Tha Flatlinaz" & they dropped the same year as gravediggaz & sounded kinda similar...but i guess off the strength of RZA & Prince Paul being in gravediggaz people liked them more

This

They where called flatlinaz. The rumour is prince paul was having label troubles (I think with russell simmons), so to get even he heard that russell simmons nephew was starting a horror core group, so he decided to form gravediggaz to sabotage and shut down russell simmons and his nephew's group, as payback.

As far as I know Esham started recording for his album Boomin Words from Hell in 1988. I'd say he invented horrorcore. Even though he called it acid rap himself.

That's probably Ganksta NIP you're thinking about, The South Park Psycho was his debut album.
4dda1W64K8M

And yeah, I'd say it's a toss-up between him and Esham. Esham's debut came out before NIP's, but I think NIP was rapping and starting to establishing himself with the South Park Coalition even before Esham came out (correct me if I'm wrong here?).

and the correct answer is........

THE GETO BOYS

the o.g. line up dropped this joint in '88.
7NpWR2g6Qas

then the classic geto boys dropped this jem in '89.
mwEub9ehsvE

and then the classic line up remade "assassins" in '90. (and did a much better job with it.)
66Tuirx98Qk

while the geto boys weren't a "horrorcore" group, these are the songs those type of rappers got their inspiration from.

esham gets an honorable mention, but he didnt really start making noise until after the geto boys were pretty well known.

it def aint the gravediggaz, flatliners or any of them groups.
