Ghettognom thanks for contributing, nice list too. If a little too underground for my tastes lol...nice to see Masta Ace up there. He's one of few artists I can think of who has GOT BETTER with time, Disposable Arts and Long Hot Summer are unbelievably solid CD's.

Shocked at how high(I'm so funny:hooray: ) Method Man is on your list, and how low GZA is, as you can see by my list we have both of them in virtually completly opposite positions in both of lists, interesting.

Only one person gonna throw MF Doom in this? Whatever. How you gonna fight a 20 album catalog? Overall tho, I really didn't see nobody that didn't need to be there. I ain't even fixin to flood this thread with the true 30 tho, cause it aint mines but what were you thinkin to leave Doom out?

You ever seen MF Doom live? No disrespect, he's a talented artist, but he isn't anywhere near reaching any of the 30 artists in my original list. No stage presence or charisma, just a fat dude rapping on stage in a mask. Such a boring and lazy show.

To be on my list you'd have to be able to rock a crowd. His music is(in my opinion, don't hate) strictly headphone music, like a lot of underground music. I'm not and never will be all about the beats, but a little bass to nod your head to wouldn't go a miss.

Oh and the fact that's he's had twenty albums is irrelevant, it's about quality not quantity, that's why Mos Def, Notorious B.I.G & Lauryn Hill and universally praised, despite not having huge back-catalogues.

Good rebutle. I can appriciate ur view on hip-hop. However, I still feel that in 10 to 15 yrs.(once hip-hop has a chance to grow even more), Doom will be hailed as an pioneer of change thus giving him GOAT credibility.

I like Immortal Technique (in small doses, sometimes I get the feeling he’s preaching a little) but if I said I listened to the rest on a regular basis, I'd be a liar. I have all the respect in the world for Kane, KRS and Chuck D, but they are way before my time, and I haven't went back and checked out their full catalogue like maybe I should have. I've listened to Long Live The Kane, Return Of The Boom Bap & It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, and although they sound very dated, you can see just why these people influenced most of the artists that I've put on my list.

The reason they don't make the list and other artists you may possibly class as old school do(Rakim, Ice Cube, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Slick Rick etc) is because although Paid In Full etc. sound just as dated as Boogie Down Productions's work, Rakim has released The 18th Letter, Masta Ace has released Disposable Arts & A Long Hot Summer, you get my point? These are all exceptional albums, but more importantly they were released when I was deep into hip hop, so once I heard those albums, I was interested enough to go back in time and check out their past work, to see where they had came from to get to where they are now.

Hope that explains it.
