"After the Funeral"
I remember when the heightened timberlands of Michigan
Were as close as the tinge of my own complexion
But they seemed to move further with each passing word
Or phrase that my Grandmother would say
Connection still remains, but it's badly damaged
Ever since the day when Grandpa vanished
Battled Alzheimer's for years, Grandma could barely take it
Put him in a nursing home, filled with guilt and anguish
At his funeral, eyes dry, I asked Mom
Why she was so calm, my mother hushed me with a palm
Revered was settled in, reading a psalm
Usin' my grandfather's words, and speakin' 'em wrong
Later on, I asked Grandma about the service
Why she only shed one tear for her husband's purpose
She replied that he had died four years prior
The day that disease detained my grandfather
And I understood, only twelve
Two weeks from thirteen, when he fell frail
Grandma had seen a worse Hell, with her man in the reserves
In World War II, with an Air Force flight crew
But this was one battlefield too many, and he never returned
She closed her eyes, fought back against the crack in her words
Finally said that she was glad it was over
As pain and her husband's ghost started to hold her
Now I'm older, and undersand why
While her family wept deltas, she just couldn't cry
So I never try to doubt her resolve
There's just no moving somebody that strong
Ever since, picture frames are gone, left with images
Of a home built on fragmented sentences
Selective remembrance in the present tense
And a wise eighty-plus-year-old piece of mind that is truly heaven-sent...

feeling that first verse alot, most of our grandfathers served in WW2, the battle lasted for 8 years plus, mine fortunately made it back, I asked my grandfather once, "how many peeps did you kill?", he looked at me crooked and told me, "thousands", back home they were subjected to go to war, he said he seen his closest friends dying in front of him constantly, wise words from my grandma, she said, "pray that a war doesn't happen ever again", 'cause it's the worst thing possible that can happen, R.I.P. to my grandfathers and grandmother, and to everybody elses who've passed on, family is the greatest thing in the world, that verse made me reflect on good times with my grandfolks, and that second verse, real original, like how you put that together, most def, stay up and keep writing, PEACE!

Fine way, I liked it wasn't just a pile of rhyming words like too many "raps" on this forum.

And yeah, the first one was 5+, I was feeling you too well (my grand-grandmother passed away few months ago).

as said, i think the first verse was real raw and deep...when you pick something that evry1 can relate to, like deaths in this case, you really went through the trials and tribulations naw mean?? I'd love to do a track with you one day man, stay up cuhh
