I think you can only do that if you are the administrator of your computer.

If you arent, the easiest thing would be to put what you want hidden onto your g-mail if you have one or something else.

you dont have to then...unless other people use your admin account. All you have to do is put the files into your "My Documents" and no other users can see them....this is if you have windows Xp...I forgot how the other ones work.

To lock and password protect a file on your computer....it has to be compressed:

To protect files in a zipped compressed folder with a password
Open My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.
Double-click the compressed folder.
On the File menu, click Add a Password.
In the Password box, type a password.
In the Confirm Password box, type the password again.
Notes

To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
Passwords are case sensitive.
You can identify compressed folders by the zipper on the folder icon.
When you extract an password protected file, the extracted file is no longer password protected

click on tools ( at the top )

go to folder options and scroll down

Well all you need to do is navigate to your Tools (Click once) navigate down to Folder Options (and click once) a dialog box appears and at the top there is General, View and File Types (Click on View) the if you look down without scrolling down you will see were it says (show hidden Files and folders)you can highlight it (with the green dot) to show or not to show your hidden files or folders.

Peace
PS: You know you can encrypt files (anyway i have a tool to view locked files or password protected files and another to show me you password) so it defeats the purpose.
