the human brain is fuckin awesome....

i had never known what a savant was before and never even heard of it before and then i came home maddd stoned saturday night and caught this show on Discovery channel at 2 in the morning all about savants....

for those that don't know...these autistic savants are people that were born with some kind of disability or handicap or whatever, yet they have unbelievable, superhuman abilities to do certain shit.....(i never saw the movie but..) the guy in the movie Rain Man is a savant and these ppl really exist....

theres all different stuff that they could do..

the one that bugs me out the most is this kid from England who is autistic and they realized when he was mad young that he had an amazing ability to draw......he could look at a set of buildings in Manhattan for example and JUST FROM MEMORY, with no rulers and nothin but a pencil, draw it perfectly on a piece of paper with every window and every corner....his name is Stephen Wiltshire...i was lookin at his website and they had this video where he went to Hong Kong, flew over the city in a helicopter to get a good look at it, and then drew the whole fuckin city on a mural using just a pen......and he did it perfectly....

they also had dudes on the show that were like Rain Man where u cood tell them some crazy math problem, for instance 978,634 to the 3rd power...and they can answer it in seconds.....

or there were ppl who cood tell u what day of the week a date falls on for any date over like a 10,000 year period....like u tell them ur birthday and they'll say ok u will turn 70 years old on a Thursday or somethin....

i missed this part on the show but there was a little kid who was like a musical genius...cood write music and memorize it and perform it on the piano perfectly and shit....

the guy who Rain Man is based on has like a ridiculous memory and can remmeber like 12,000 books that hes read.....when he reads a book his left eye scans one page and his right eye scans the other!!!!!

there were more on the show but then they were explainin the science of it and how everybody actually has this shit in there brains....cuz there are ppl who were normal and then had an accident and could do this shit...

i gotta go now but ill come back to say more about it tonight....

theres a show on the Science channel right now (channel 111 in NY) about this dude who is a savant...not an autistic one cuz he "overcame" his autism

they showed him recite pi (i dono how to make the symbol come up from the keyboard) all the way to like the 20,000+th something digit..

he can just picture the shit in his mind and make the calculation like that...

also there gonna show how he learned some crazy hard language in like a week and went on TV and did an interview in that language...

just shows the incredible capability of the human mind...limitless potential

EDIT:
he was never autistic....but he had a bunch of epileptic seizures when he was a kid and it changed something in his brain

EDIT again:
later tonight on the same channel theres gonna be a show about "the real Rainman"...

this dude has read and MEMORIZED EVERY WORD from like 20,000 books

yeah these things are real nuts, shows what humans would be able to do if we weren't held back by something.

I think it's good the majority of us are held back. For the most part, we're all horrible people. Don't fool yourself, there is a good chance...in some way, you are a bad person.

But yeah, at a resteraunt I used to work at I had to train this retarded kid to do dishes and he was like, socially retarded like he had problems talking to people and shit but he was so fucking organized. Cool kid just a little off. I don't think he counts as a savant though.

yeah, that kid that can draw from memory has some pretty decent skills. It was all over the local news a couple months back, this is unrelated but there's someone that can do any multiplication and can recite the math term pie to about 10,000+ numbers

Pi, not pie.

Weird, the ad banner at the top of this site has something about autism.

On topic, i wonder what keeps us from being able to do the amazing things people with autism can?

My cousin is autistic. He can't really socialize and he likes to go and sit for hours on a bench and people watch. He can't work.

If he is in a car though he remembers every sinlge thing that he sees. You can drive for hours through a city he doesn't know but he could back track you through the exact route that you drove. It's crazy. He knows all the turns, roads you pass, stores etc. If you ask him how he got to a certain destination he can sit there and tell you "we drove out the parking lot, passed three streets and turned right, passed 23 streets and turned left, passed 8 streets and turned left at the Walmart...." and he will perfectly correct. It's amazing really.

The math he can do in his head is crazy too. Throw any advanced math problem at him and he pretty much has the answer before you are even done reading the question. It's fucking crazy.

my opinion is innoculations, vaccines, sonograms, flouride, closed subjective minds, emotional trauma, and all the things under this umbrella

don't people with autism put up with all this too?

I saw this shit on TV where there was this guy who could recite classic works of piano. If he heard the entire song only once he could play it himself without notes or anything. He had an ear for the tune. If you walked up to a piano and just randomly banged a bunch of different keys for 5 minutes he would listen then replay it to you immediately after.

I have a cousin that is Autistic.

Play video games and goes to college. Don't know if he has super human mind powers, but he's smart. Mostly he keeps to himself, so there's no telling what goes on in his head. We relate on a video game level though, so that's what we do when we visit. Play nintendo and shit.
