Its not dead maybe ny hiphop is dead but not hiphop as a whole, nas just going for some attenition to get more sells, but i do like the track and beat...
i revoke my comments
this track takes more of a "if Hip Hop was dead" angle
maybe Barbara Walters should interview him and ask what he meant by that track

"if Hip Hop was dead"
that should be the name of the album and the title track
reminds me a bit of Deck's Uncontrolled Substance
there are people that would love to kill Hip Hop
or at least strangle it until it is obedient
lol

Some people care a little bit too much about music.
its not that
its just that you really do not understand
no diss

What makes you say that?
you only have 5 senses
sound is one of them
and when you add the video to it - thats 40% of your body's input
music is serious business

I was referring to the lyrics of the song. Hell, I love me some music. But silence is underrated.
But silence is underrated.
that cannot be disputed
good point

Hip Hop is not music
Good point. Hiphop is not music, b.u.t music is an aspect of hiphop. There's an interview Nas did on allhiphop.com talking about hiphop being dead.
If hiphop is not music, what is it, and why?

It's a subculture above all.
Hip Hop is dead is a ridiculous statement when you really think about it
thats like saying water isnt wet

Is water wet? I don't think the statement is ridiculous. I think it's relative to who's saying and for what purpose. I don't really think hiphop is dead but I can run with that statement. Sh*t just ain't the same, and I'm not trapped in the 80's either. All I'm saying is the principles are no longer their as far as what's being seen and heard on a regular. Where's the creativity, the originality, the skills? Where's the graff at? When's the last time you heard a dj scratch a record on a record? I would say there's some truth in that statement. The music is changing and it's becoming something other than its own self. If it ain't dead, it's dying...

Hip Hop is a culture
There is such thing as Hip Hop music
but Hip Hop is not music
we can express ourselves musically

all of the things you mentioned goes on everyday and is at a higher stage
we got better
much better
you'd be amazed and might even cry
we often go to the wrong spots, looking for Hip Hop, and when we don't see it, we say that things are not the same anymore
NY is very very secretive
we give the public what we want to give them and let them trip off that baking soda
and they have proven that they do not appreciate the art
so they cut off
lets tell them that Hip Hop is dead so that we can live in peace
some of your favorite rappers might not have really died
they really just wanted to be left alone

nas: "hip hop is dead until my album comes out, cop it on the 19th"
ironic that nas comes out with an attention grabbing headline that doesn't seem to hold any relevance after he signs with jay z? Sort of like the whole retirement thing.
look at his answer as to why hip hop is dead. He gives the standard response every backpacker in the hip hop chamber gives as to why hip hop is dead, personally i expected something a little deeper then that from nas
vOzUqx_F_5g
he's even dressing like jayz right now
if hip hop is dead, it's 95 and later that killed it
I have noticed he is dressing like Jay Z as well......I remember when he wore bandannas to cover the side of his face back in the day when pac was popular. NAs is Jay's baby now.
"hopped out my coffin

in my opinion the mainstream and the underground have two different understandings about hip-hop and its message...
