He'd take her for her masters, hit it once an' shake her hand
On some ol' thank ya ma'am an' ghost her
She could mind the toaster if she sign the poster
A whole host of roller coaster riders
Not enough tracks (is it?)

DO not stand still, both show skills
Close but no crills, toast for po' ills, post no bills
Coast to coast Joe Shmoes flows ill, go chill

Doom is definitely one o the illest ever. I really cant get into this style he's been kicking since the Dangerdoom album. Lyrics are still brilliant, but his flow just isnt what it used to be and his voice is too monotone. this style works on some songs (depending on production) but not on all. I bump just about everything he's done from his KMD albums to Vaudeville Villain

Doom is a sick mc with a complex wordplay.......I can understand how some people don't feel him as much because I do think his style is an aquired taste, but to say that he is weak lyrically is wrong. I own all his records and numerous times I always heard verses from him that made me think "oh shit...I don't believe the way he just flipped that" or "that is some real shit he just said"........people that get those types of reactions from me when im bumping their music through my headphones say to me that they are some talented mc's.
Doom is easily one of the best mc's in the game right now....FACT, anyone who criticises Dooms lyrics yet rates Papoose (not saying Papoose is shit mearly saying hes not worth all the hype) don't know shit about wordplay.

He's a nice producer. I really wish his beats didn't get recycled so fucking much though. Btw, he didn't produce all of MM Food. Count Bass D did the best beat (imo) on that album.

I've heard Grimm and Doom over a lot of the same beats, and Grimm ripped all but one of them harder than Doom, imo.

His voice can be a problem because of the fact that his patten flow is monotone but he kills it in a way that is all his own. He accents the right words to keep it from being Ben Stein monotone. And he is dropping some of the most serious knowledge out there. But to compare the two is like putting Ghost against GZAI absolutely agree. They're completely different. It depends what you're into. I personally would much rather listen to an mc like Grimm than I would Doom, and I have a lot more respect and appreciation for Grimm as an mc than I do Doom. I think hearing them over the same beats it is pretty fair to say that Grimm has a much better understanding of how to use a beat, and ability to adapt a vocal track to a beat and create a song around it, but I guess it's arguable. Certainly I know people would disagree with me.

And yeah, Count Bass D makes great music. Talented guy. I've still gotta get his new joint though. The "Potholderz" beat is just too fuckin' ill. So much so that I'd probably name it as one of my all time favourite beats.

Whats crazy is that Count only does the music so that he can take care of his babies. If you take part in his website then you will see him go through things like not even wanting to continue making music for the public. Potholderz was an amazing beat. Doom is in a league far beyond Pap and Hov (Hov is garbage anyway). Doom could go toe-to-toe with Nas any time, seriously. It may sound strange, but I can't think of any two rappers that are so similar and different at the same time. Call me crazy, but when I first heard Doom I thought his flow sounded remarkably like Nas' flow.

Honestly though, Doom's whole approach to rhyming is revolutionary and I'm one of the most jaded, uneasily impressed Hip-Hop head around; I wouldn't just say something like that casually. Really, DO THE KNOWLEDGE to Doom. XHard to EarnX, you can call Doom's style "retarded", but rather than just deem you a "hater", I think you should really give Doom a thorough listening to. I don't know if you're having a hard time catching the references or what, but Doom is Hip-Hop of the 21st century.

Does it? Well I guess I have to reconsider a lot then. Hmmm...

Yeah, I picked up that you have listened to Doom before that's why I suggested that you give it a "thorough listening" (in terms you would understand that means put your "thinking cap" on) and hopefully you can come back with a more intelligent criticism than Doom's "retarded".

By the way this whole "if you're not feeling so-and-so than you're not Hip-Hop" logic doesn't fly. I respect Jay, but I feel he's overrated. I didn't say your opinion was void because you don't like Doom. Hell, I'd like to actually hear a real opinion with some reasons to back it up rather than "because so-and-so is better".

I don't know if you're having a hard time catching the references or what, but Doom is Hip-Hop of the 21st century.

why are you trying to compare all these rappers with such different styles. you are being a hater man stop lying to yourself theyre all ill rappers shut up you're so late on doom anyway son has been out forever. stupid thread

You didn't "say my opinion was void because I don't like Doom" because I do like Doom. That'd be like me saying "You're not posting on this message board."

And you said Jay was "garbage." That's not "I respect him, but feel he's overrated."

And I don't think you get it. I've done more than just "listen to Doom before." I've given him many thorough listenings. It doesn't change the fact that "catch you with the combo, boop boop, Muhammad Ali" is in no way anything special or even above average.

i'd recommend picking up mm food or madvilliany first. I wasn't able to get my friends into doom until they started listening to those two. Mm food is reallll heavy, but it's easy to break into doom with it cause the beats are real catchy. I'd recommend picking those two up first, then cop vaudeville villian, doomsday, and everything else.

The key to understanding doom is figuring out the "it"s, else it's gonna sound like a bunch of clever wordplay.

Doom has been the one underground mc that seems to be getting through to people who don't normally listen to hip hop.
When I talk about that real hip hop Doom is always the example I use when talking to my friends, I have made quite a few Doom compilation cds for people and the response from them has been mainly positive. The one thing that a lot of people say to me is that on first listen they find him quite difficult to take but once they have had time to check it properly they begin to hear what I was talking about......ALL agree that he is creative and inteligent with regards to his lyrics and that he truly is someone you could use as a positive example for the normal stereotypes associated with rappers.

I mean, I LOVE this song, but come on. He's not saying anything interesting or special. It's just there.

First of all what do you define as "interesting or special"? You're missing the whole point of Doom's style. He's intentionally goofy, but he's also a craftsman. Papoose and Jay both have very fluid, traditional flows. And although I don't like Jay, I think both Papoose and Jay are lyrically talented. But, then you have to ask yourself what do we even mean when we talk about lyrics? How much of our favorite lyricists' lyrics are actually about something. I've said it before, nine out ten times, an MC's talent is predicated upon his technique[I] rather than actual [I]content.

Herein lies Doom's brilliance. He takes every convention of Hip-Hop and turns it inside out. He's one of the few rappers who you can never predict what he's going to say. I don't know if you're underrating Doom because you can't catch a lot of the references or his music is too lighthearted, but you have to understand, the way you're approaching his music is old fashioned. I see you're a Clipse fan, so it's sort of strange that you can't see a certain parallel between the two. It's new school approach with old school values. Get it straight.

I'm just going to lay it out here and leave it at this:

Doom's not bad. One could even say he's good. But to say that he's top five/10/fuck even 50 or 100 is ridiculous. Sure he says some clever stuff with some neat references, but for the most part, it's just a lot of sometimes cool sounding stuff that rhymes and adds up to not a whole lot. New and fresh is cool and all, but it's like being an animal who goes for stuff just because it's shiny, not because it actually does anything.

What irritates XHardtoearnX and Doom haters alike is that they don't want to have to deal with the responsibility Doom expects of them. Jay and Pap are both incredible MCs, but unlike Doom, they spoonfeed rhymes. They make sure you can keep up with their pace. Doom, on the other hand, presumes that you know enough about classic Hip-Hop in the first place. He expects the true Hip-Hop Head, in all their self-proclaimed, tempermental wisdom to be able to piece together meaning or at least value from his rhymes. XHardtoearnX doesn't feel that Hip-Hop should necessitate any prerequisites and if he feels that way than I really can't say he's wrong. But, there is no wrong or right in this matter. XHardtoearnX has a good defense, however, despite that, he will be left in the dust as Hip-Hop evolves into a new era. Doom is the future of Hip-Hop, like it or not.

The bo deans stop limousines and niggaz flee the scene
Somebody on his back bleeding vest all cracked up
Freeze clown officer down request back up
Listen dude don't get me misconstrued as a sniper
It's V Vaughn not to be confused with V la viper
Or either peter parker
Or either peter piper
A seed the type to pee the diaper blame it on the wiper
It's really not your concern why I got the knife sir
You suggest remain calm let not get "No"
Slash his windpipe he had them type of eyes
He might be still alive
How you get this thing to hyper drive
Oh
Give my props to the shooter
Prices at a all time low in the future
Something like fourteen they must be on horse pills
O T and zero three to re up on force fields
At that cost deal he plotted the coordinance
Two thousand three rental tie upper west side more or less
This thing be buggin like a celly frontin
Now who the hell is honey wit the slug in her belly stuntin
You ain't have to tell V nothing
Trust him
It really ain't no time for discussion
He'll be back in ninty three press of a button and they busted in
His first impulse was to smack the dirt
All four wore plain clothes and lumberjack shirt
Recognize one face from school six degrees ago
He'd snuff him in his braces just to switch the station to BGO
He kept a punch line every lunch break lunch time
And this is no time to pump fake it's crunch time
The same split second they let off the toast
That's when he hit the speed dial and sped off ghost
I know those cats don't like V
And if they took my head off they'd get off most likely
And probably thought the time gizmo was my wallet
And hit the hills forty more times on some foul shit
Pick a crime he was out in the nick of time
To get paid another day and live to kick a sicker rhyme
For illa it's like miller malt liquor time
Up town finery were it's probably not best to flaunt
Everyone's your best friend V steps into the restaurant
My friend he said you must be psychic
What's the price of fourteen
It's real you like it
Huh, be back at night the fourteen G pack was really packed tight
But back at the lab he found that the sleaze stack was right
Not only was it three cracks light between white
The test show lactose, ambisol
lecithin five types of aspirin and other kinds of medicines
Next time I'll bring my men who speak Mexican
And let the tech's spin
Make 'em contact the next of kin
The whole thing is mostly lactose
lecithin and some type of aspirin, ambisol medicine
Damn
Lets go get 'em men

I know doom and jays work well. its all your preference in hip-hop. in my personal opinion, mainstream rap ain't knocking down as many walls or being as original as mc's like doom or the wu since they "fell off". the wu became too ahead of their time eventually for the pop charts. but in my opinion, doom is one of the best lyricists spitting. people can disagree on his overall package as a rapper. amazing writer even if his subjects aint your thing. i'd listen to madvillain over any mainstream album in the last 4 or 5 years

Today was kind of weird.

I walk into MODERN - it's a skate/snowboard store/skatepark because my friend wanted to buy snowboard boots. About 10 minutes into being in the store, a beat comes on. I knew this beat. Turns out they were playing 'ALL CAPS' by Madvillain - kind of cool.

Doom is the shit. You don't hear lyrics like that everyday (unless of course you listen to MF everyday), and that's what matters. He doesn't sound like anybody else and that's what I find appealing. Change IS a good thing sometimes.
