Anyone know a good website with info on this subject. Mainly I need to know about the different sizes. I went to take out a dead power supply out of my HP and the extra one I had was too big.

First of all make sure you have your HP manual or a printout of your systems specs.

To find the proper size power supply you need to know what the form factor of your computer case and motherboard are. The form factor is an abbreviation that describes:

*size
*shape
*general make up

of a hardware component.

The form factor for your system will be the same for your power supply, case, and motherboard.

The most common ones are these:

AT
Baby AT
ATX <<<<<<<<<< most popular
Mini-ATX
BTX

.... does your original power supply have a single connector cable that says "P1" on it? If it does then you have an ATX form factor power supply and need to buy one of those as the replacement.
