What's A Sin?

To me sinning can range from murder, suicide, to thinking "I wish I could meet God." Thats why I think Jesus was the first to go to heaven, he didn't need to know what God is or who he/she is.

Does the Bible say what a Sin is?

the bible describes a sin as a act of evil that seperates one's self away from God, though the level of sin ranges as you said whether it be theft, telling a lie, killing, or lusting after someone, though i dont think wanting to meet God is a sin

My history teacher back in high school put an interesting twist on it. In his context he believed that a sin was a mistake. The exact way he put it was that ancient cultures didn't have as developed a vocabulary as we do now so they discribe anything that was mistakeable as a sin.

That also kind of downplays the meaning for me though. As I don't consider grand theft or murder as the kind of thing that you can "oops, my bad".

Sinning is a very christian concept. I've always found it to have connotations with masturbation, fantastic taboo eh? I think abusing oneself is mooted as a sin in a biblical context somewhere alone the line, maybe in the same place where homosexuality is considered a sin also..
