View Full Version : Best MC to Debut in the last 5 years

Today, some kid asked me who I thought was the best MC to show up in the past 5 years, and a shitload of artists ran through my head and I just started spittin' random people.

He said "Kanye West", a good rapper (but to me easily questionable as one of the best rappers to debut recently)...and also feeling like it's impossible to compare rappers if the other person hasn't heard of any of the people you mention, I just sat back neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

But the shit has got me thinking...

Name your top 3 rappers/group that released their first album in the past 5 years.

(There's prolly been another thread like this, but I haven't seen one...

For me, prolly The Game. Thats countin his mixtape shit tho, not just his 2 albums

IDK, kinda hard to answer the given question, as I can think of a bunch of cats

yeah the game is a good call. its kinda sad when looking back at the last 5 years, there hasnt been a stand out mc to take over. maybe papoose or saigon can make it happen.

If we're only talking about solo artist then Bronze and Cilva are gonna get alot of votes for this thread. Mainstream wise i would say Kanye, Game, or Juelz. My pick for best group would be Little Brother.

I like Kanye's production but don't like him on the mic. He annoys me. Game would be the only one that immediatly pops into mind but he needs to shut up with all the beef. Just get over yourself for 5 seconds and rap.

No one has really in the last five years really come out and just be consistant and shown real promise for the future. You get good verses here and there but then they do some wack shit. Someone mentioned Papoose or Saigon could do it but we just wait and see.

I'm not really talking about whose going to take over commercially, just new people you think are ill.

Here's (more than 3) what I could think of:
Vakill
Afu-Ra
Papoose
Zion I
One Be Lo
Saigon
Immortal Technique
Cunninlynguists

Some good artists on your list, but I'd probably have to say:

Brother Ali
One.Be.Lo
Vakill or Immortal Technique

I like Saigon, and the Cunninlynguists (although they're a group), but I can't add Saigon to the list until he at least drops a damn album.

I like Trife. Still to be seen if he can carry an album but as a companion to Ghost's stuff and other Wu-related shit he's pretty dope.

It would be Immortal Technique, but he is not eligable for this thread because it is the best MC to debut in the last 5 years, and Revolutionary Vol.1 came out in 2001.

Even though R.A the rugged man has been in the game for years, he officially debuted in 04-05.

Anyways, my thoughts is probably Lupe, Game, Talib Kweli (solo), Papoose, Saigon, Kanye........fuck it, it's basically the same shit everyone is saying.
