Tom Coughlin Scores 2 Touchdowns In Season-Ending Speech To Giants Defense

JANUARY 11, 2010 | ISSUE 46•01 | ONION SPORTS

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—Following the Giants' embarrassing 44-7 loss to the Vikings, 63-year-old head coach Tom Coughlin further manhandled the Giants defense Sunday, scoring two more touchdowns against them during the eight minutes of his season-ending speech. "In the end, Coach [Coughlin] just got the better of us," said defensive end Justin Tuck, who was later caught flat-footed by several reporters who added another touchdown during Tuck's postgame press conference. "He exploited our weaknesses, and we just couldn't stop him. I guess he just wanted it more than we did." Tuck later blamed a porous Giants defense for allowing play-by-play man Bob Papa and color commentator Carl Banks to score two more touchdowns and a field goal during their postgame remarks.

well, i don't remember the circumstances, but they had an issue the previous year where somebody fucked something up and everyone was pissed off so they made that rule for a reason. i'm not sure, but it's possible that the guy that took the wrong adrian peterson might have been one of the supporters of that rule.

He, himself, blows it for his teams in the playoffs with the dumbest passes ever.

The fucking Vikings had that game all Brett had to do was be smart and pick up aobut 6 or 7 yards on the ground.

They didnt even get a chance....Even the worst QBs in the league do not make that throw.

hectis

the reason the viking players were fumbling yesterday like that was because AP gave a speech before the game and told them to play like him, he meant to play hard they thought he meant to cough it up

he'll get in eventually. it'll be hard to keep him out when he won a ring, went to 3 superbowls and won 2 league MVPs and a SBMVP but im not gonna call a guy who lost his job to marc bulger and spent the better half of his career struggling to find a starting job a first ballot HOFr.

after 2001-02 dude fell off HARD.

netscape check two

Marc Bulger isn't a scrub, he was one of the top QB's in the league back then. Warner might have fell off a little, but then he picked it back up, playing some of the best football of his career with the Cardinals. That playoff game against the Packers was one of the best playoff performances by a QB of all time. Dan Marino is the only QB to have more 300 yard passing games than Warner. Warner has as good of a chance as getting into the Hall of Fame as any other QB in recent times.

THE W
01-30-2010, 02:58 PM
he lost his job with the rams and went 5 or 6 years where he couldnt maintain a starting job. he went from leading his team to superbowls to no team wanting him as a starter. thats not falling off a little, that falling off A LOT.

marc bulgar would never have taken tom brady, peyton manning, or brett favre's jobs and saying he's a first ballot HOFr is putting him on the same level as those guys. GTFOH.

he'll get in, but not first ballot.

angry!

i think STL jumped the gun!!!! kurt fell off in 01?!?!?!!?!?

did kurt not have ARI in last years super bowl!?!?!? who woulda called that at the beginning of the year?!?!!?! what 5-6 year stretch are you talking about son!?!?!?!

bulger is a fuckin bum, look at the rams!!!!!!! i bet STL regrets that move, he gets dumped by STL so teams think hes done and he rides the bench in NY... ARI signs him as the backup and he balls outta control when given the chance!!!!!! that doesnt happen to players thatve fallen off!!!!!!!

warner has just as many rings as favre, and one more superbowl appearence in a shorter period of time!!!! he should get into the HOF easily, but kurt gets slept on, so well see what happens!!!!!!

THE W
01-30-2010, 03:38 PM
the guy basically had 5 good years in his career. his first 3 with the rams and his last 2 with the cards. he went to 3 superbowls in those 5 and won 1 which will make him good enough to be in the hall. then he has a big gap where he got his job taken and couldnt maintain a starting gig which should keep him from being first ballot.

brett favre didnt lose his job to his backup.

first signs of failure out there, and kurts back to being an arena QB!!!!!!!

STL was foul, 02 was a rough start, no doubt, but he got that franchise a taste and they couldnt wait to pull the plug!!!!! bulger at his best wasnt half as explosive... look at bulger now, look at the rams now, and look at the cardinals team kurt signed with compared to the cardinals team he left!!!!!! they were gonna play their big draft pick and stick with leinarts bum ass until warner took the job by its balls and put some wins together!!!!!!

lets not act like favre hasnt had back to back bad seasons before!!!! i cant front on favres career numbers, but give me kurt warner in a big game over bret anyday!!!!!

Support Growing For New York Super Bowl In 2014 6th February, 2010 - 2:30 pm New York Daily News - Commissioner Roger Goodell clearly supports awarding Super Bowl XLVIII to the Giants' and Jets' new stadium in 2014, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft will lobby other owners for it, but Steelers owner Dan Rooney has a big problem with playing the most important game of the year in potentially cold and nasty weather. The vote comes May 24-26 in Dallas. There is really just one concern for a Super Bowl on Broadway: The weather, obviously. "I hope it's there, I hope it snows and I hope the Patriots are in the game," Kraft, one the NFL's most influential owners, said Friday. "I think there is some real support for it. I know I personally will lobby anyone I can."

--Warren Sapp arrested for choking and beating up a woman

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Former NFL star Warren Sapp(notes) was released from jail Sunday on $1,500 bond, a day after being arrested for allegedly choking a woman in his hotel room.

Sapp was released at about 11 a.m. Sunday—a time the NFL Network analyst would have been helping with Super Bowl coverage.

The network has pulled Sapp off the air until it investigates the matter.

Police arrested Sapp on Saturday on one charge of misdemeanor domestic battery. An arrest affidavit says the incident happened around 5 a.m. Saturday in the former defensive tackle’s hotel room at the Shore Club on Miami Beach.

Sapp’s attorney said the former player is taking the matter seriously and will cooperate with authorities.

“He sincerely apologizes to the NFL family and fans for taking away any distraction from today’s big game,” Christopher Lyons said. “We ask that everyone reserve judgment on the matter until all the facts come out in a court of law.”

The woman said she had been dating Sapp about two years. She told officers the two were partying with a large group of friends when she got tired and went to lay down.

Sapp entered hours later, pulled her out of bed and tried to get her out of the room, according to the complaint. The complaint says he yelled at the woman about men she had been hanging out with and men listed in her cell phone.

The woman told police Sapp choked her, threw her down on a couch, then picked her up by her shirt and neck and threw her down again—injuring her leg.

The victim had a swollen knee and bruises on her neck, the affidavit says. She was taken to the hospital.

Sapp told investigators he let the woman stay in his room but asked her to leave a few hours later because he was expecting company. He told police the woman fell on her leg when he tried to help her get off a couch.

Sapp played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders during a 13-year NFL career. He also was once a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

The Saints need to upgrade their defense first and foremost, they were 25th in the league. You got to figure Green Bay is going to be better and so is Dallas.

A healthy Pittsburgh team would have made a difference in the AFC.

Its tough to repeat, I dont think the Saints have enough talent on both sides of the ball to do it unless they add to that defense.

Im just re watching it now, 2 things that also need pointing out

-Thomas made some KEY runs and catches (and of course td) after the onside kick for NO to take the lead. This was the turning point imo, and it was Thomas who did it.

-for the onside kick, that was even more dramatic than i thought because it was actually a Saints player who knocked the ball out of Reis's grip initialliy i think but they did really well to keep hold of the ball

These were the key turning moments for the whole game imo. then when reggie made that nice catch on their next possesion, it was over

McNabb is a fucking bum... LOL... I'm sorry to break it to ya'll McNabb and Iggles fans out there. He's a CHOKE ARTIST. And before you hate back, remember who's got the Super Bowl MVP QB and who's got the choking ass throwin up in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl QB.

I'm glad Westbrook is gone because he was a pain in the Giant's ass for many, many years. And hopefully McNabb goes away too!

Fuck Free Agency, it's all about the DRAFT, bringing in youngsters who want to build a real team like we did in 2007 with all those rookies who balled out in the playoffs.

I disagree. He will be good, but he will never be as good as Westbrook was imo.

The Eagles should get rid of that criminal QB they have. They pay him that money to do a few Wildcat plays every so often. Let him be a backup on some other team.

Sources tell Fox 29 News in Philadelphia that the Eagles are divided on whether to trade QB Donovan McNabb.

While no potential trading partner has yet to emerge — that includes the St. Louis Rams — coach Andy Reid is reportedly set to veto any deal for his veteran quarterback, according to the station’s official Web site.

i've changed my tune about mcnabb. i want the steelers to trade for him. having a quarterback who chokes in championship games is better than having a quarterback in jail for rape.

Im happy with the add-ons in Detroit. Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams are both nice additions to the D-Line, which was horrible last year. Hopefully we get Suh in the draft too.

Burleson will be a solid #2 to have next to Calvin

Nice pickups for the Bears too. Cant believe Peppers is goin for 91 Mil tho

^^I wish KVB the best. He was a beast for my Titans (until last year) I hope he can get back to the KVB of old. Besides, I like the Lions young talent, and I think Mathew Stafford is gonna be a monster. I kind of like the Lions really.

The Philadelphia Eagles told Michael Vick's agent, Joel Segal, that they will pick up the quarterback's $1.5 million roster bonus this week, according to a league source.

Vick, who's due the bonus by Wednesday, has said he wants to be a starter next season, but the Eagles likely will not trade him unless another team offers at least a second-round draft pick.

In fact, the Eagles are carrying three quarterbacks who have started in the NFL with success, but the team hasn't attempted to deal any of them. A team source has maintained that Philadelphia expects Vick, starter Donovan McNabb and backup Kevin Kolb all to be in training camp this summer.

NFL ShopMore Philadelphia Eagles Gear >

Sources from two teams who would be in the market for a quarterback said last month that they don't expect Vick to be dealt until the preseason. That's when his value could be enhanced by strong preseason performances, a full offseason of work with his team and injuries/uncertainty at quarterback on other clubs.

NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reported last month that the Eagles plan on keeping Vick and even might increase his role in the offense. Vick would be due $5.2 million next season if the Eagles keep him.

Vick didn't see much playing time for Philadelphia last season, his first in the NFL after he missed 2007 and 2008 while serving a federal dogfighting sentence. He finished with 86 passing yards and 95 rushing yards, and he threw for one touchdown and ran for two more.

I'm not an Andy fan. I mean I can recognize and acknowlede when he does something good but for me, I think Donovan can be so much greater if Andy wasn't there. I don't know. Just my opinion.
