I've just seen a couple of threads in the lounge which have addressed this type of behaviour today and i'm curious to know what the members of this board think about it.
You see, i was under the impression (the mistaken impression it seems) that human beings were individuals who were capable of making their own choices about what they did with their lives. For example, a white person rapping/playing basketball/breakdancing is exercising his/her freedom of choice to take an interest in that music, sport or dance form and that a black person who sings in a punk band/plays ice hockey/hits a mosh pit was exercising his/her freedom of choice to take an interest in that music, sport or dance form.
Ok, in plain english, i think that to label a type of behaviour as exclusively white/black/mexican/chinese/yiddish/jewish/blah is fucking retarded and that people in general (especially members of a 'wu tang' board, a group who show love to fans worldwide regardless of ethic or country of origin) shouldn't get caught up in that bullshit. But hey, that's just me.
Thoughts?

there's more to life than what the sorry media potrays. life is all about what's outside your front door, not what's displayed in the telelvision. stereotypes is pure ignorance in which nobody should be discouraged by. Just be you and disregard what anyone else says. That's the essence of freedom. Freedom is never having to say you're sorry and freedom is never having the obligation to give explanations. As long as you're comfortable under your own skin, you should never give 2 flying fucks what the next man thinks.

The only people I view as trying to "act black" or white etc.. are the ones that try to ridicule their own race for what are percieved as their general interests because in their mind they believe that making fun of the popular activities of their race disassociates them, making them more accepted by black people, white etc...
example: A white guy makes fun of white people for listening to rock or country and watching programs like friends and sienfeld.
In the movie White boyz it shows a perfect example of this.

its also about your surroundings. Me being white and hanging out with all black people, of course some the slang or whatever is going to rub off on you. And you act differently then the straight laced white people.
While i hang out with all black people, the people at my job are all white(the area im at is like 8 Mile in Detroit. One side of the tracks is the poor area, other side is the rich/upper-class area. I chill/spend most of my time in the poor area, but work in the rich/upper-class area)

i never get why if a black man dresses cleanly, ie, tucks in shirt, wears a button up shirt, talks in a respectable manner, clean shaven etc... other black people accuse them of being white - like all black people are bums who dont shave and wear the same shit for a week ? and it shits me when if youre white and you wear jeans with a singlet with a tilted hat or whatever other white people say you acting black ... but you never see a white person saying to a black person 'oh you acting white' or a black person saying to a white person 'oh you acting black' ... if the person, black, white, latino, asian, arab doing whatever, aslong as its natural and not forced to be accepted, 99% of people dont see the colour of the skin, only the haters ...
For Me It's Like This:
Im Black, Listen To Rock, electric, hip Hop, And Techno Music,
I Don't Wear Big Ass Clothes, Hate Jordan Shoes, Don't
Watch B.e.t And Only Sleeps With White Girls.......
My Family Calls Me White All The Fucking Time. Just Because I'd
Rather Listen To Jimi Hendrix Over Gay Ass R .kelly Or Daft Punk
Over Jeezy, I Get Fucking Ridiculed...........and Still Don't Give A
Flying Fuck. It's Just Who I Am.

I think its a stupid High School mentality that says you are of a particular group, but once people see youre 25-30 and still doing the same shit, wearing the same styles You are not part of a fad you are just being yourself. As long youre honest with yourself as to who you are then really thats all that matters, who gives a fuck what the next man thinks

Of course everyone is an individual in the end, yet at the same time most of us do want to identify ourselves with a certain Ethnic group to have a sense of identity. Being proud of who you are, for many people, has a lot to do with your cultural background: Black, Irish, Italian, Hispanic, or whatever. To understand your cultural background, means to understand your history, and to do that means to identify certain aspects of your people that are unique to it. I don't think that there's anything wrong with that.
When it comes to "acting White/Black" that's a very controversial subject. The world would be a much better place if we didn't attach these stigmas to different types of behavior, but it's obviously rooted in something historical -- in this case ultimately hatred, but nowadays something more complex.
When African-Americans were first brought to this country against their own will they had to find ways to preserve their identity in the face of unthinkable oppression. Ever since then they have had to endure segregation, abject poverty, racism, police brutality, etc. Similar to the Jews or any other people who have been subjected and maltreated, a common bond is formed among the survivors and that sense of brotherhood is passed down through generations.
What I'm trying to say is that African-Americans in this country have always defined themselves in their own terms in order to preserve what was theirs. This applies especially in music; if you look at Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop, and most of American pop music, it has its roots in Black culture. Elvis, for instance, who is one of the most revered figures in music history, adopted a style of Blues. It can hardly be denied that American music in general has its origins in Blues, Gospel, and Jazz.
Is there anything wrong with Elvis, Eminem, or any other White artist influenced by primarily African-American styles of music and culture? No, not all (it's inevitable). Does Hip-Hop embrace people of all creeds? Yes. Does the media portray Hip-Hop in that light? No. The truth is everyone should be recognized as an individual, but when 50 Cent releases a video game where you can pretend you're him shooting cops and dealing drugs, they are shamelessly exploiting and promoting the ills of poor, inner-city Black neighborhoods. Not only are they exploiting these horrendous symptoms of poverty and oppression, but they are also commodifying it. A broader minded person dismisses these stereotypes, but an ignorant majority are going to identify 50 Cent and everything his image represents with Black people in general. The destructive power of these stereotypes can not be overlooked.
As I said before, there's nothing wrong with someone like Eminem. The reason I don't think Em is trying to be someone he's not is because he doesn't embody negative stereotypes. He destroys stereotypes by proving that Hip-Hop culture is not exclusively Black. I have no problem with him.
What I do have a problem with is this kid:
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r97/ob4cl84/l_40850491b9373e6a9b9286e3bd4181fc.jpg
Now do I look at this kid and think, "he's acting Black"? No, I look at him posing with his Bee-bee gun, using the word "nigga" profusely, his G-Unit layout, the red bandana wrapped around his head, and I think, "wow, he really thinks that this is the way Black people are". He needs to model himself on inaccurate approximations of Black culture that he sees in music videos on BET and MTV to make up for the fact he has a complete lack of identity and sense of belonging.
Now ask yourself is there a difference between Eminem and this buffoon?

even if u were 2 say that jamal from house party 2 acts like a black person, your words are implying that all black people act that way
example
not all white dudes like skinny blonde bitches
not all black dudes like big booty bitches
if u say a white dude is actin black cuz he likes big booty u are making an ignorant and racist statement

As long as you don't act on that hate, it's alright. It's part of being human. i hate some of the religious groups here in the USA because they have mistreated me and what they have done is not nearly as bad as what white people did South Africa. The important thing is not to hurt others physically or even verbally. Otherwise, hate will just keep going around.
