The samples from "starter" and "weak spot" are from the Shaw Brothers film "Shaolin Intruders." this movie is ill and was release in the USA by image. Did not contain the fuckin eng dub though! http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID....qx/details.htm (http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.536806/qx/details.htm)

was there a sample at the end of Starter? Only Wu track iv never been able to make it thru to the end

Correct on the Shaolin Intruders mention

The "thought u could find my weak spot" part was from 5 Deadly Venoms during the Toad vs. Snake fight

Yeah you are correct. I did forget about that. And yes there was a sample at the end of starter. When looking for samples on wu songs I just go to the start and to the end as that is where they are usually placed. Starter is a shit song!

Uhh the Killer is NOT a kung-fu movie! It is an Hong Kong action film! There is a shaw brothers movie called the killer but the One referenced on 36 chambers is NOT a Kung fu movie! I would watch it if you have not seen it which it sounds like may be the case!

If you are talking about the samples from campfire you are incorrect! I remember dude who posted a review about 8 diagrams said the same thing! I watched the actual movie and this sample is not in it. There are no scenes that have peeps drinking wine!

Five Element Ninjas (aka Chinese Superninjas)

iron monkey 2
wing chun
tiger cage 1
tiger cage 2

lol, for once i'm happy to have cablevision over comcast!!! I'm usually pissed that I don't have the nfl network since thats a comcast thing.

When i was really collecting movies back in 98-01, i don't think a good quality version existed yet lol. DVDs were not going strong like they are now, if they were even being released at all on dvd. I started collecting again now that most things have been re-released and remastered etc. I need a good copy of house of traps and legend of a fox too, which i'm pretty sure is available nowadays. Eventually i'll get around to ordering it. Still have 10-15 unopened dvds at home to watch so I probably won't order new movies anytime too soon.

If you can record some of those via a dvd-r. Life gamble was rare before the Celestial IVL came out in HK. IT is scheduled to come out in the USA this year. House of Traps just came out and it was eng dubbed, which is even more rare. http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.547426/qx/details.htm

yea most of them are dubbed with english voice overs. Delightful forest was dubbed with a english voiceover i believe. I can check. It may have the info on the voom network website, not sure.

So most are dubbed with voiceovers. A few of them have been subtitled in english though, such as "come drink with me" i believe.

yea it happens to the best of us when we start collecting. Can't even count how many movies i've lost in college by letting people borrow movies. I guess its a blessing in disguise as all my old stuff was on VHS, and with dvd releases out now theres no comparing the two. I can't go back to VHS.

Ip Man (HK 2008) - Feature (http://www.loveasianfilm.com/ip-man-hk-2008-feature/)

September 1st, 2008 / Features (http://www.loveasianfilm.com/category/features/)
http://www.loveasianfilm.com/images/ipman_title.jpg
About The Movie
Ip Man is adapted from the life story of Ip Man, the grand master of the Wing Chun style kungfu and sifu (master) of legendary kung fu superstar Bruce Lee. Wing Chun has a history of more than 200 years. It was founded by Yim Wing-chin, took root in the hands of Leung Chun, and prospered with Ip Man. The art of Wing Chun has now become very popular with martial arts enthusiasts, especially overseas. It is a traditional Chinese martial art with a formidable reputation internationally.
http://www.loveasianfilm.com/images/ipman01.jpg
Wing Chun Chuan is characterized by close body combat, requiring practitioners to show speed and power. Its Chi Sao of ďsticking handsĒ is more similar to modern day combat skills and has a rich feel of genuine strikes. This is also why Ip Man differs from the dazzlingly romantic and purely fictional style of previous martial art movies. Its explosive punches and aggressive close-range combat offer a new thrill never experienced by modern day audiences.
The story of Wing Chun began in the 1920s and 30s, in wartorn China. Ip Man was martial artís unyielding follower, devoted whole-heartedly to the free learning of wushu. The fight to be top between the Wushu schools in the southern and northern regions of China had not stopped him having goodwill matches with other practitioners. Nationalistic bad feelings and racial hatred had not lessened his respect for Japanese martial arts warriors. In this great era of hatreds and tragedies, Ip focused only on wushu. His enthusiasm for martial arts saw him having devastating straight fights with various elite practitioners.
To this date there have been neither movies nor publications about Ip Man. This movie will be the first important record of the masterís life. Ipís persistent devotion to Wing Chun is a classic example of the love and respect shown to wushu and the freedom and spirit it represents. This movie will see the making of a modern whushu representative of Chinese people worldwide. Ip Man is a concept, a spirit, a way of thinking Ė and it represents a new peak in Hong Kongís wushu movies.

Detailed Synopsis
It is 1930s Foshan and the mood is one of wushu, wushu and more wushu. One fateful night, Sifu Liu calls at the mansion of the renowned Ip family after the opening of Liuís new wushu school. During the friendly visit, Liu challenges devoted Wing Chun master Ip Man (Donnie Yen) to a sparring match behind closed doors. Ip wins easily.
The match remains a secret until the younger brother of Kungfu Crazy Lam (Xing Yu), saw the fight and decides to tell everyone about it. It is a loss of face for Liu and results in some serious rows. Ip is mocked by a police officer, Li Chiu (Gordon Lam Ka-tung), and breaks the latterís revolver in two. In the meantime, marauding thugs and followers of Kam Shan-chau (Louis Fan Siu-wong) goes around challenging the Foshan wushu schools. In one fight, Kungfu Crazy Lam is seriously injured. Ip tried to save him but is challenged by Kam. The whole of Foshan gathers to watch Ip dispense with Kam easily using the four forms of Wing Chun: fists, legs, knives and poles. Ip becomes an overnight hero and wins Li Chiuís respect and Foshan goes crazy for Wing Chun.
http://www.loveasianfilm.com/images/ipman02.jpg
Ipís prosperity does not last long. In 1937, the Sino-Japanese war breaks out and within a year, Foshan has fallen. The Japanese army seizes Ipís family home and Ip and his wife Cheung Wing-sing (Lynn Hung) as well as their son seeks refuge in a derelict house. On his way to a pawnshop one day, Ip bumps into an old friend Chow Ching-chuen (Simon Yam), the boss of a cotton mill factory. Chow offers his old friend help but Ip is too proud to forsake his dignity for food and shelter. When food runs out, Ip is forced to work as a coolie to keep his family alive. At the factory, he is reunited with Kungfu Crazy Lam.
One day, a troop of Japanese soldiers led by General Miura (Hiroyuki Ikeuchi) arrives at the factory. Miura is crazy about wushu and uses rice as a reward to temp the Chinese to contest the Japanese in martial arts. Ip refuses to be baited but Lam eagerly takes up the challenge. Lamís skillful moves fuel General Miuraís enthusiasm and he enters the ring to take on Lam himself. Lam is no match for the General and pays with his life.
The next day, Ip finds Lam missing. He is forced by the soldiers to go to the arena and is shocked to see Sifu Liu already severely beaten up by three soldiers. Ip is furious that Liu had to risk his life for food provisions and enters the arena to challenge the Japanese enemies. Even though Ip is outnumbered, he beats down his challengers one by one until none is left standing, Miura is elated and full of admiration for Ip. But Ip is very upset especially when Miura rewards Ip with the bag of blood-stained rice.
Kam leads a robbery at Chowís cotton mill, which leaves several people dead. Chow decides to seek Ipís help. Ip finally agrees and trains the mill workers Wing Chun and the factory grounds are turned into a de facto wushu academy. Kam stages another attack and although Ip and his followers are no match for Kamís thugs, they score a magnificent victory.
http://www.loveasianfilm.com/images/ipman03.jpg
Meanwhile, General Miura cannot forget Ip Manís masterly skills and places Ip on the wanted list. To avenge his defeat, Kam disclose Ipís whereabouts to the Japanese. General Miura storms into the mill with his army. While Ip, tipped off by Li Chiu, decides to forsake his own life in exchange for his followersí freedom. With great sadness, he hastily arranges for his wife and son to leave Foshan.
The approaching army is stopped in its tracks by a towering figure: Ip Man. Ip challenges the general to a duel but the general wants to take the fight to the streets of Foshan where he wants the residents to witness Ipís defeat.
In the ring, Ip and General Miura give their all in a life-and-death match that pits Wing Chunís Chi Sao against Japanese karate. As excited Japanese soldiers cheer their general on, their Chinese counterparts are forced to witness the fight in silence. But with each attacking move, Ip wins back dignity for the Chinese. As he hears a sudden roar of applause, Ip realizes that his family and friends have not abandoned him. As his supporters cheer him on, he becomes more courageous and daring. But at a crucial point when Ip launches his final deadly punch, a Japanese officer responds by pulling his gun on Ip. A shot rings out and the scene turns to mayhem.
Several decades later, a trendily dressed young man walks into a Wing Chun school in Hong Kong. The young man wants to learn Wing Chun from Sifu Ip Man. His name is Bruce Lee. The elderly Ep, with eyes like a hawkís but a peaceful air, shows who the true master of kung fu really is.

I'm a huge fan of martial arts (ironic, coming from a wu-fan) and I wanna start watching kung fu flicks again.
I've seen Enter The Dragon, Drunken MAster, Chinese Connection, Fist of Fury, The Protector, Ong Bok, Invisible Bullet, The One, Snake in the Crane's Shadow, Crippled Masters, and Crouching Tiger.

I'd rather watch old movies, any reccomendations?

Yeah I got the Image version, containing the once RARE english dubbing. I thought it was garbage. Not much fighting and the house of traps was not used like it should have been. I was really bored and I like venoms movies.

I would say its good, so hopefully you like it.

Anyhow, Ti Lung is one of my favorite shaw actors. I thought the movie was good. Story involved opium and the use of the drug affecting fighters, as well as just people in general. Fighting was pretty good as well. Of course there are some training scenes. There were also some heart-wrenching moments lol. Pretty typcial shaw story with the drug theme tied in.

Delightful Forest - another movie i've wanted to see for a long time, and just finally saw it on the kung fu HD channel as well. Good movie imho.

Word. I have a wide print of Shaolin V Wu-Tang but its cut, really dark, and in French.

Yeah man I've been going to that forum since like 2001. Really great place to get reviews, questions about films answered, etc.

I think the next film I will get is The Martial Club, as long as Tokyo Shock includes the English Dub. This movie kicks ass!

BTW has anyone with access to kung fu hd manged to record these shaw flicks on to DVD-R? It would be nice to see a fully english dubbed version of Delightful Forest!

Cheers!

Yea i actually have DVR'd several of the movies. I think they are in mpeg form though, don't think the quality is as good as it would be if watchin it straight from the channel due to the dvr-device i used to create the file.

And in a bit of bad news, seems like the kung fu hd network no longer is in my cable provider's programming. I have to call them to be sure but last time i turned to it i got that message.

Martial Club - if its the same one i'm thinking, i've always liked a lot, especially the last fight, one of my favorites.

A better tomorrow and bullet in the head are 2 woo/fat movies that i've always intended on seeing and never have. ABT i always passed over for somethin else, which i tend to do with the more common ones, and Bullet in the head i've never found other than online.

yea i will pick it. A Better Tomorrow and The Rebel will probably be the next movies i get. Although i really did want to get the police tactical unit, internal affairs trilogy, and city of violence.

Is there a specific version of the ABT series that i should pick up? I thought dragon dynasty had a release of it but doesn't look like it.

I'll PM u a list of the movies i have DVR'd off the hd channel.

100proof - I thought legendary weapons was a good movie. Has a little of that witchcraft/magic stuff in it, but not too much. I like seeing Lui Chia Liang in action.

WORD Legendary Weapons is really nice. I just watched the image release last night, actually. Some lame comedy but TOP notch fights!

I would get ABT 1. If you can find the Anchor Bay version it contains the English Dubbing. That is if you like english dubs. I prefer them more for old school KF than action films. Although I have to watch the KILLER in eng dubbing!!!

I don't get the "first 30 minutes were useless" part. The film actually tried to have a story, as opposed to a string of fights (i.e. Ong Bak). By the time the fights kicked in you had a well established protagonist built up. I wouldn't fault the film for that. For a highlight reel it can be disregarded, but as a FILM (which it is) it's important.

Non-stop fights without a story is cool in the, "I'm going to show my friend this SCENE" but for a complete package that's no good.

Anyway, I thought Chocolate was great. Original and refreshing for the action genre. Some people are calling it the female Ong Bak, but outside of the fact the female did some tight stuntwork I don't really get the comparison. Ong Bak had a REALLY basic story and some of the most one-sided fights ever (thankfully Tony Jaa took notice and fixed the fight issue for The Protector). Chocolate had a much more clever, well-developed, storyline with balanced out fights.

understand what ur saying...but it was a lil let down...only becouse i over hyped it...from the trailers and all i thought it was gonna be like a tony jaa movie..

so when i poped it in..i ddidnt see no fights..and that what i was looking for
understand it needs to build story..it wasnt bad...one thing ido wish for is that it was better dvd quality ..like maby a bigger budget ...i think its like that becouse it wasnt picked up by a big company ..went strait to dvd here in the states.....i see her as upincomming...awaiting for her next flick if their is another one

Ah I understand. I had never heard of the film when I checked it out, so hype didn't effect my viewing. I went in with no expectations outside of it being an action flick. I found out later people were calling it a female Ong Bak which made a big question mark float on my head.

but like, in this one i dunno it was jus an americanized version to me, where like some girl defects and has a kid with the enemy then bam... everything else happens...

funny tho, cuz they treated her like danny the dog from unleashed, collecting money hahaha

and as far as warlords, i know its a war movie, i jus didnt wanna make another thread and i figured 100proof followed mr. Li so i would ask, ya'll watch red cliff 1 and 2? 1 was better for me

Ong Bak had a much blander story than Chocolate anyday in my book. Wasn't very developed either. It's basic, which isn't always a bad thing. But it felt like it was basic for basic's sake. Like the writers said, "We just want to show a bunch of fights and stunts. Let's wrap the whole thing around that." For a highlight reel that's fine, but as a film...hard for me to dig. A need a bit more meat than that for me to care about the main character and film. Chocolate had alot more going for it in that regard. It spent the beginning of the film to develop the protagonist, and then spent the rest of the film to deliver action. I'd say that was a smart decision. Plus, the fights themselves were alot more balanced. I saw Red Cliff 1&2 but I can't really separate the two since it was filmed as one flick, just released as two due to it's length. It would be like me comparing Kill Bill 1&2, or Che 1&2. Both feel incomplete without the other half. By default, all those films are going to have better first parts because the first part BUILDS the story arc.

Jackie Chan making 'Armour of God III' his 100th film (http://www.kungfucinema.com/category/news)

jackie Chan is expected to begin production on a third ARMOUR OF GOD film later this year according to Chinese media as relayed by Wu-Jing.org (http://www.wu-jing.org/happenings/archives/638-Chinese-Zodiac-Marks-Jackie-Chans-100th-Film.html). Chan will star and co-direct ARMOUR OF GOD: CHINESE ZODIAC along with Stanley Tong, following what has been six years of development on the project. Emperor Motion Pictures is producing and handling distribution for what is described as a treasure hunting film that will send Chan globetrotting around the world.
Part of the translated article mentions that "it would be something that is expected to move the hearts of all Chinese worldwide." I can't speak for the Chinese but I just hope it's more entertaining like the original ARMOUR GOD and less like THE MYTH, the last fantasy-tinged collaboration between Chan and Tong. Given that the action star just celebrated his 55th birthday on April 7th, I doubt we'll see Chan attempting to free jump onto any tree branches but the film could still be fun.
The first two ARMOUR OF GOD films was Jackie Chan's response to the INDIANA JONES films. Both have been released in the U.S. on DVD under the title OPERATION CONDOR by Dimension Films but out of order, dubbed and edited. I highly recommend tracking down licensed import versions instead and if you only watch one, make sure it's the first ARMOUR OF GOD (aka OPERATION CONDOR 2).
I haven't been keeping count but according to the same source, ARMOUR OF GOD III would mark Chan's 100th film which is something for fans to celebrate. Quite a few Hong Kong actors have reached that milestone in the past when Hong Kong was cranking out as many as 300 movies a year but few of Chan's stature and drive for perfection have managed such a feat.

This guy comes like a mix between Tony Jaa and Jackie Chan, only not as impressive as either. Finally got around to seeing Ong Bak 2 (got too busy with work to see it before).

What can I say, THIS is a true martial arts film. It had a very big feel to it. Whereas Ong Bak, the original, was cool at first, with repeat viewing it really doesn't get much pass a really cool stuntshow parading as a martial arts film. It was basically just one spot after another with a very loose story that sorta tied it together. The Protector was much more in terms of a martial arts film. But where I would call Protector great, for the most part, Ong Bak 2 was damn near epic in its feel, the way it was shot, variation, etc.Truly, if there was only 1 Tony Jaa film I would show to a martial arts fan it would absolutely be Ong Bak 2. The only real criticism I'd give it was the title. It had NOTHING to do with the first Ong Bak. But, seeing as the first Ong Bak film had a pretty weak story and was just stunts/spots, I am almost happy disregarding the 1st one altogether and consider Ong Bak 2 the definitive Ong Bak.

Absolutely a must-see for martial arts fans. I really appreciate how Tony Jaa is showing he's not just one-trick pony, but a well-ranged martial artist.

How do the rest of the Once Upon A Time In China films fair?

Once Upon A Time In China 1-2 are excellent (the 2nd being my favorite). 3 is almost as good as the first two, but not quite. 4 is good in terms of action, but weak in terms of everything else. 5 is the worse of the series in all areas. And 6 (Jet Li's return to the role since he didn't play Wong Fei Hung in 4&5) has some wildly bad acting from the foreign actors and some annoying editing for some of the action scenes. Not as bad as 5, but weak still.

All and all, watch 1-3, feel confident you aren't missing much with skipping the rest.

3rd had a solid story, unique and interesting new character, and good action. Not on the level of the first two, but all around pretty good. Certainly not the massive drop of of the last 3 films, that's for sure. I generally consider the 3rd the true closure to the series (pretending the last 3 didn't come out).

flying guillotine remake

Shaw Brothers' martial arts classic THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (http://www.kungfucinema.com/tag/the-flying-guillotine-1975) (1975) is going to see new life in a $6-8 million remake directed by Dante Lam (http://www.kungfucinema.com/tag/dante-lam). The news comes as start-up production and financing company Cinema Popular unveils four new projects at Cannes.
Other titles include fantasy superhero movie JUNG KU - THE MAN FROM 18TH HELL with director Peter Ho attached, serial-killer thriller QUEEN'S ROAD RIPPER, and contemporary comedy GOD OF WEALTH.
Lam's most recently released film, the long-delayed gunplay actioner THE SNIPER (http://www.kungfucinema.com/tag/the-sniper-2009), arrives on DVD and VCD in Hong Kong on May 27th courtesy of Kam & Ronson. Lam will begin shooting THE FLYING GUILLOTINE in November after completing the action thriller OUT OF LEASH for Media Asia.
Directed by Ho Meng-hua (http://www.kungfucinema.com/tag/ho-meng-hua), THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (1975) originally starred martial arts actor Chen Kuan-tai (http://www.kungfucinema.com/tag/chen-kuan-tai) as a former member of a secret, royal Qing-era hit squad specializing in the use of a "flying guillotine," an elaborate thrown weapon attached to a chain that chops off the head of its victim. After being ordered to kill the entire family of a political opposition leader, the protagonist attempts to leave the squad and is branded an outlaw. He goes into hiding but is hunted down by his former comrades and must face the dreaded flying guillotine himself.
The 1975 film was popular enough to spawn a sequel and several independently produced spinoffs. The most notable was Jimmy Wang Yu's cult hit MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE.

MaskedAvenger
09-27-2009, 01:27 AM
I didn't get to catch the whole movie yet, I only managed to watch the first half but it was nothing like the cover believes you to think it is. In fact, I don't even think the dude on the cover is in the movie. It is about a monk who gets possessed by an evil spirit and starts to take revenge on the men who killed him, a bit like 'chucky'. I won't really judge the movie until I've seen it all though. I'll let you know how it turns out

IP Man 2 - without a doubt will be sick as fuck, still looking for a copy of Ip Man 1. Donnie Yen is the shit. The Guan Yu cat i remember his name from those Dynasty Warrior games lol

I don't know why you all like that movie so much? It's a terrible movie for true fans of the "3 kingdom". They've changed so much of whats cool from the original and made up all this shit to fit the taste of western audiences...

Sorry I am abit of a late comer to this thread. But the greatest movie by Jackie Chan is "Drunken Master 2".

The first one is more old school, I am not a big fan of the old "start stop" Hong Kong kung fu movies. Although my heart will always have a special place for "36 chambers of Shaolin"!

"3 kingdom" is an old Chinese epic story semi-based on historical events. Lots of Chinese catz are dissappointed with the new movie cause it lost most of the epicness of the original text.

I don't really like any of the movie Jackie's made in America. Just way too silly compared to his awsome Hong Kong stuff.

Anyone seen that movie "Chocolate", I am quite impressed! That little girl can kick ass!

the fighting is good....i just wish the characters/story was better......

Ip Man was incredible...that could easily be one of the best kung-fu movies ive ever seen...im happy they're coming out with a sequel..
