Now, this is a "versus" thread worth doing. I would make it a poll but it isnt working.

Usually one or both of these albums will be on someones top 10. But whenever I do this poll on other sites, it ends up close, so its time to do this here. Beats, Rhymes, & Life is also a solid album, but usually not discussed with the other 2. SO I will give it an honorable mention anyway.

I like them both, but I think the basslines on The Low End Theory caught my ear to it.....go Ron Carter.

Low End Theory. Got a lot more memorable shit for me, Excursions, Verses From The Abstract, Show Business, Vibes & Stuff, Check The Rhime, The Infamous Date Rape, Jazz, Scenario. They both undisputed classics though.

Low End Theory from beggining to the end just flows. Verses from the abstract is Q-tip at his best. Its gotta be low end theory.

both flawless no doubt. I gotta go with midnight marauders becuase it has a little of a darker, harder vibe to it(esp. on "Midnight" and "8 Million Stories"). yeah bro beats, rhymes, and life is tight too, a couple years ago I was bumpin "1nce Again" like it was one of the only songs on earth. peace

I like both of these alot, but for me, Low End Theory takes it easily. The choruses are classier (am I the only one that is bothered by the frequently repeated choruses on MM?), the beats are smoother, and the rapping...well actually the rapping on LET probably isn't quite as good as MM but I feel that the rapping on LET complements the beats better than MM's raps do.

Both are classics. Low End Theory is the better album. I'm glad others like Verses From The Abstract as well. I never hear people about that, one of my favorite ATCQ tracks. Midnight Marauders had crazy moments like Phife on Award Tour, but LET doesn't have a track like Hot Sex. That's a great track, but not as good as the rest of the album. The production and chemistry between Phife & Tip was perfect on Low End Theory. MPC junkies like LET, Midnight Marauders sounds more modern.

Midnight Marauders is perfect. I'd put it top 5 all time easy Low End Theory is classic too but the first record is really just tip Low End Phife is pretty good on and the beats are phenomenal but on MM everything just comes together

Both of their last two were underrated just because they weren't as energetic. Granted, on those two, Tribe DID sound a little bored but Phife does some of his best spitting on BR&L.

I didnt like BRaL when it first dropped but got into way later and its another classic, TLM is good but not on the level of the 1st 4 which are all classics. I would say tho De La's first 4 are classics too and I think they have the meatier catalogue even if Tribe is better overall

Well they DO have more albums than Tribe.

What's your favorite song on BRaL? My fav is "Get a Hold". In fact, that very well might be my fav Tribe track overall. INSANELY good and inventive production and sample. Creates a lush and melancholy atmosphere that is both addictive and welcoming.

Get A Hold, amazing beat. The way he flipped that sample: "Suddenly, drifting back." Really clever stuff.

I would say Find A Way is a little bit better. Jam and 1nce Again are also great beats on BR&L

Get a Hold is def. one of the best on the Lp phony rappers pressure and once again too. Phife is at his here and Tips style is crazy like he's bored with everyone but still really dope and casual

Good to see we all agree on Get A Hold.

I think it would've been amazing if they did a whole album of that somber, atmospheric, melancholy rap. You know, stuff like "Get A Hold", and "8 Million Stories*. Would've been ace!
