I think it was originally whitey who brought it up in a thread.
I was in a bookstore and seen it for like 75% off so I thought I might as well buy it. I have pretty much read and attended geography lectures of why everything unfolded from my geographical studies and it is true that physical geography is often underlooked when looking at history and historical events.
Nevertheless I like how he used his knowledge of Polynesia to describe models of smaller societies and what each society had, developed and how their geography affected them.
It is a good perspective although some the archaeological aspects I would still disagree with.
