Steely Dan
Anyone else like these guys? They’re one of my favorite bands. Over the last year I’ve bought all these cats albums, and I gotta say these guys are dope. The Musicianship and Compositions on stuff like ‘Deacon Blue’ and ‘Bodhisattva’ is incredible. Not to mention their frequently humorous and moving lyrics. Also these guys haven’t made a dud album, even their two most recent joints were good, although not as good as their original run of albums. Also these guys have been sampled many times by Hip Hop artists, heres a list, one that’s not on there is Kanye Wests‘ ‘Champion‘:
Royal Scam: (ABC 1975)
* "Green Earring"
Ice Cube - "Don't Trust 'Em"
Organized Konfusion - "Walk into the Sun"
Zimbabwe Legit - "Legitimate Mix"
* "The Fez"
All Saints - "I Know Where it's At"
Brothers Like Outlaw - "Trapped into Darkness"
Countdown to Ecstasy: (MCA 1973)
* "Showbiz Kids"
Super Furry Animals - "The Man Don't Give a Fuck"
Aja: (MCA 1977)
* "Peg"
De la Soul - "Eye Know"
Goldie - "In the Land of Funk"
* "Black Cow"
Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz - "Deja Vu"
MF Doom - "Gas Drawlz"
Porn Theatre Ushers - "Me & Him"
Tatyana Ali - "Daydreamin'"
* "Home at Last"
Big Shug - "Stripped and Pistol Whipped"
FM soundtrack: (MCA 1978)
* "FM"
3rd Bass - "No Static at All"
3rd Bass - "Peg"
De la Soul - "Eye Know"
If you never heard these guys then check em out, all their albums up to 'Gaucho' are straight up classics, although the musical style changes from album to album, starting from Classic Rock to Disco inflected Jazz.
