What's the most original rap song ya think is out there? Just wondering what some of ya think is.

I'd have to go with

Ras Kass - Interview with a Vampire.

originality is pretty much dead at this point, but one song that definitely comes to mind for me is Organized Konfusion - Stray Bullet.

There's probaly a more original song but the one that sticks out in my head is

MF Doom ft. MF Grimm - Tick, Tick...

Edgar Erebus
12-21-2007, 07:48 AM
^^ Yup

The only completely original is King Tim III (Personality Jock) by Fatback Band, cause... you know... it was first.

They used a Beatles sample innit didn't they? [I'm asking this 'cause I was hearing on the radio that Wu-Tang Clan was the first group to successfully obtain a Beatles sample.]

WeMadeIt
12-21-2007, 12:03 PM
I'm not entirely sure, I've never been a fan of the Beatles, but it's a fantastic beat and the way the lyrics slow it up, speed it up along with the tempo of the beat is crazy

Operation: Hangover
12-21-2007, 12:34 PM
^^^ Not sure DOOM "successfuly obtained" the sample. Pretty sure he just sampled it regardless. Probably one of the reasons why Doomsday is out of print.

really really hard to say....one of them must be El-P feat. Cage - Habeas Corpses (Draconian Love)

Sage Francis - Sun vs. Moon is pretty original too...many many songs...but can't remember just now

Bronze Nazareth - Waters of Nazareth prolly wins for me tho...

venex

"Come On Baby" isn't that impressive. The alliteration he used was done better by Pac in "If I Die 2Nite" and Treach in "Yoke the Joker."

Poisonous-- no no totally, I was being VERY sarcastic; the song titles enough to declare Saigon wack & totally UNoriginal.

i'll make a real nomination, however: "Beat Street," specifically Melle Mel's verse, which really was the next level shit, even more than the "Message" or "White Lines," & i think opened the door all the way open for PE & Rakim, tho' it took 'em a while to catch up in their own ways.

yep. i love that song. really crazy shit.

for those that don't know it's a story about a sexually abused girl's revenge against her abusive father - who, ironically, is a social worker. all told from the perspective of the girl's admiring classmate.

from the early 90s to boot.

haha

anyway... something is either original or not, there are no degrees of originality.

an original hip hop track that comes to mind is

Canibus - Poet Laureate II

yes, i know everyone here hates canibus, but i cant see how this isnt original, lyrics and beat wise.

also

Canibus - Poet Laureate Infinity

as a concept is original.

millie pulled a pistol on santa-de la soul

i fookin luv that song-great story as well

probably my favourite De La track.

all of Three Feet High & Rising qualifies as original.

and De La Soul is Dead, is one of the first hip hop albums with a strong central theme and thematic use of skits.

De La are always over looked in these things.
