View Full Version : your opinion of Nas

i know a lot of fans of the wu-tang clan have equal love for Nas, but almost just as many decry him for allegedly 'falling off' after illmatic, it was written, i am, or whatever....i'm one of those who believes that not only did Nas never fall off, but he is one of the greatest MCs ever to bless the genre of hip-hop. from 94-97, he was perfectly flawless, and yes, by that i'm saying it was written was an album lacking in any missteps, on par with illmatic, in my opinion. that preceding statement will probably obliterate any credibility on my part, but even after it was written, nas was fairly consistent. i am... is another great work, coming right before nastradamus, probably the worst cd in the Nas catologue. but even here, in the supposed low point of his career, Nas has more highlights than stretch marks. every album after that has been solid, tight, and cohesive. he still brings quality music to the table, even if he doesn't always brandish that edge that we like to characterize as 'Nasty Nas'. anyways, speak your opinions and thoughts....

fuck another NAS thread.........

........ILLMATIC =classic, IT WAS WRITTEN=CLASSIC (underrated)...........after these albums NAS albums were really inconsistent, like there were dope tracks on I AM, NASTRADAMUS, STILLMATIC, etc.........but alot of garbage fast forward tracks on these albums

I think GODS SON, and STREETS DISCIPLE were good steps forward, but again these albums had some medicore tracks as well.

yeah before I Am, i cant find any Nas cut that i dont like. but from I Am to the present day, i can probably list about 6 or 7 songs that i detest. but that's to be expected...he had to come down to earth sometime. and for him to have more albums than bad songs is quite an accomplishment, in more ways than one.

The songs on it was written tell some great stories, but everyone hate the production. Nas is the king and it took Jay's "sneek attack" to wake him up.

Nas is a real MC and he has evolved thruogh the body of his work. I think where the controversy starts is just the battle for social acceptance. The Wu don't give a fuck about that but you ohave to respect Nas for making an attempt to reach more people with his music. Just listen to the last Nas album and you will hear that he is the same nigga that dropped Illmatic but he's older and wiser. Of course most rappers come out at their rawest but most never get back to their roots

My opinion on Nas is that he is the best of all time, plain and simple. He took out Jigga, he has a solid body of work, and he has atleast 3 classics. He has had some misteps in the past, but he has kept it hip hop for the most part and nobody is better than him lyrically. His weakness might be his choice of production which is shaky at times. Overall he is a great talent in a hip hop game that doesnt give him enough credit.

'Yo the time is wastin, I use the mind elevation
Dime sack lacin, court pen pacin
Individual, lyrical math abrasion
Psychic evaluation, the foulest nation
We livin in, dangerous lives, mad leak and battered wives
A lifestyle where bad streets is patternized
Wise men build and destroy
While the real McCoy dopefiend, named Detroit is still dealin boy.........'
This takes be way back. Nas is a teacher of rap to the new rappers, he learned and now he spreads the knowledge

obviously illmatic is a classic which will prob never be repeated, but it was written is a great album, and stillmatic helped reestablish his name...but i thought street's disciple was very weak...if nas did an album completely produced by premo, that would be a guranteed classic

i think if nas can find a good producer that will glove into nas' lyrics with his tight beats, then ANY nas album u listen to (LYRICs ova beats) will become a gem. i got my hands on God's Stepson with 9th wonder on production. the relationship is like atmosphere..shit fits like a glove. with nicer beats it was easier for me to listen to nas and...THE GOD HAS NOT FALLEN OFF...HE IS THE Last Real Nigga Alive!!!.. & THATS OFFICIAL. GET YOUR HANDS ON GOD'S STEPSON TO PROVE ME WRONG

Nas is King. If some people had dropped Nastradamus, they would have been praised but becauuse Nas has such talent, it seemed like a really bad album by his standards, which it was but it's nowhere near the worst album.

Nas doesn't have the best metaphor's or vocabulary but, when he rhymes with hunger in his voice his flow is sick. If you know hip hop history he made one of the greatest album's of all time.

nas (and the rest of the good artists out there) have to get back to mainly 1 or 2 producers doing albums i think.

he mainly had large professor and premo doing illmatic. shit maintains a flow and a sound to an album that allow the listener to really get into the album. to follow the progression.

today with kats getting 13 different producers for 15 different songs, shit just doenst sound fluent.

main reasons im really lookin forward to that gza/muggz and ghost/doom collabo. i think if nas got a whole album by premo it would blow dudes away.
