View Full Version : What's your favourite WASTED beats? i.e beats used on intros, skits, -1min songs...

Durag

The favouite DJ premier produced album thread got me thinking after hearing people say beats were wasted on Group Home, by DJ Premier on their 'Group Home' album.

But theres a lot of dope beats that have been used as intros, interludes, skits, -1min songs etc, and its the most fuckin frustrating thing when u hear such a dope beat used for a fuckin skit! Why the fuck didnt they use it for a proper track!

I dunno what the reasons are, but its fuckin mindboggling.

Three of the top of my head are:
Gangstarr Feat. Smiley - Words From The Ghetto Child. (such a dope track, pity its only like 50 secs or something)
Onyx - Punkmuthafuckas (such a sick, dark, evil beat. Its only 1 min long and is stopped about 3 times so they can talk. Fuckin wasted)
Organized Konfusion - Drop Bombs (Dark errie beat, and i know technically it is a song, but they just shout over it. No real rhymes)

I know theres fuckin loads, but there the only three i cant think of right now.

Ya'll got any more?

Hahaha, I saw the thread and thought that Smiley beat off the Ownerz. That beat is straight fucking ill.

DJ Premier - Perverted Monks in tha House (on Jeru's "The Sun is Rising in the East")
DJ Premier - Intro (on Group Home's "Livin' Proof")
DJ Premier - Intro (on GangStarr's "Hard to Earn")
Havoc - Skit #3 (on Mobb's "Juvenile Hell")
The Bomb Squad - Show 'Em Whatcha Got (on PE's "It Takes a Nation")
RZA - Shaolin Finger Jab (on Wu's "The W")
Organized Noize - Peaches (on OutKast "Southerplayalisticetc.")
Mr. Porter - WEGO (on Eminem's "Infinite")

How about:
--Shaolin Finger Jab off the W.....Damn I wish this beat was a full song!! So Sick!!
--The first 10 seconds of TROY......with that really fast breakbeat......i wish they kept ridin on the beat.....

Durag

Damn, forgot about 'Perverted Monks in tha house', and 'Show Em' Whatcha Got'. Those two are fuckin sick. Havent listened to 'It Takes A Nation....' is a long time, might stick that shit on.

I was thinkin about T.R.O.Y myself, but in my opinion as great as that breakbeat is, what follows is some of THE most perfect hip-hop of all time. Easily one of my favourite tracks ever.

Also The End of Suspended In Time off of Livin Proof with the cooing baby. That shit is trippy as hell. But its just Jeru talking over it.

The intro to Wrath of the Math also sends me into a trance lol Jeru picks the illest beats to just talk over it seems.

skip to the last song and you'll hear La The Darkman and Timbo King rip that beat. it's missing a verse from gza though.

the intro to Stillmatic is the best track on the whole album so it should have an extra verse.

K-Def's intro to the Real Live album should been used as a real track.

Yo that's intro to The Psycho-Social CD...right before The Winds of War

BTW, I immediately thought of JMT when I saw the thread title. The Intro on Servants in Heaven was ridiculous. And this one interlude on Legacy of Blood...Death Falls Silent. Probably left better as an interlude....but I love it anyway. (EDIT: Of the Spirit and the Sun would have been an ill beat. Maybe not for Paz though)
