This is ticking up at at rate of three per second today but it accelerates a little every day.

There is a biological imperative to reproduce. I used to swear, as did my wife, that the world was to full and too horrible to have children. Eventually something in us changed and while that is a long story worth telling it is not what is on my mind.

Exponential mathematics is on my mind. 2 people make 2 people who make two people. By 10 AM CST that top number up there will be 3600 higher.

Given that I heard recently on NPR that we are already, as a species, removing fresh water from the earth at a rate 4x faster than it is going in I wonder what the sustainable population of the world would be assuming we all worked together and followed rules. Oh wait, sorry. I am an American. Land of the theives and home of the bullies. We'll get what we want if we have to lie about your country to invade it. But I digress.

Really, how long could this go on even if we cooperated? If the planetary ecosystem has an immune system maybe global warming is a fever designed to kill the bacteria called humanity teeming on it's surface.

I used to assume as many do that scientific progress would avert disaster and save the planet but many theorize that scientific progress may allow humans to live to age 120 or longer if progress continues apace for the next 50 years.

No one is going to stop breeding and the powerful nations of the world do not want a world government which enforces population guide lines. Shit, who would want that? Not me. Fuck your rules! Keep off my body and out of my house.

So the species is doomed. But they are awfully cute aren't they?
