Let's say the you had to replace the enitire Wu roster with non-wu mcs. Who

would you choose from the lyricists that live today? Name your nine...

Well, all of the Wu are still alive today (apart from OD). Plus there are no non-wu rappers that are close to wu rappers nowadays, so I don't really get the question, or the type of answer im supposed to give

VZA

Aesop Rock
Del tha Funkee Homosapien
Nas
Jay-Z
Lupe Fiasco
MF Doom
Lethal Bizzle
Immortal Technique
Soulja Boy(he could replace ODB as the one that dies early)

pretend none of the wu today can put out any more music (for whatever reason you can think of)

imagine that you could train any nine lyricists from the begining of their careers in the ways of the wu

who would make your roster?

Jeru The Damaja, Vast Aire, Vordul Mega, Mr. Lif, MF Doom, Afu-Ra, Sean Price, DJ Kno (dope producer + can come up with dope lyrics too, alternate RZA) and last but not least RA The Rugged Man. Give these guys a certain topic to spit about, and they burn like napalm!

I'm far from knowledgeable on so called underground MCs, but those sound pretty hot! Here's mine:

Busta
No brainer here. consistent, beastly delivery. great blend of old school solidarity and new school acrobatics. truly the LEADER

Outkast
Imagine the illest duo livin spittin that shaolin shit with their signature quirkyness! Even though these two didn't start dabblin in self production till maybe their third album, they were original enough to pick tracks that struck left of center and scored with a special blend of herbs and spices

Twista
Admittedly his only good album was the first Adrenaline Rush (though there were moments of glory on his last outing), the man once known as the Tung Twista could take Deck's place (imagine OVERDOSE on a Wu beat!)

Beans
Talents wasted at the ROC, the broad street bully is admittedly not the deepest spitter, but with some great source material to draw from he could be a great criminologist. Look at how consistent his albums have been. The B. Coming showed the world that there could be more to Beans than the run of the mill trap/hustler bullshit.

Pharoah Monch
If you've ever had the pleasure of listening to his two solo albums or any of his group work, you'll see why his name is here

Nas
no explanation neccessary

Black Thought
One of the Illest but unrecognized in our time. This man does this shit one hitter quitter on albums sometimes and it's iller than most other's written!

Kanye
Sometimes Mr. West is labeled as alternative hip hop and is overlooked, but very few men are as accomplished as he is on both sides of the boards. Others have tried with limited success, but Kanye is an artist in the true sense of the word.

Honorable mention: Common and Jean Grae

Jay and Odorous Noise? WTF?!

Is odorous noise meant to mean soldier boy?

I put him to replace ODB as I would like him to die. You get it?

Also, jay-z is definitely one of the top 5 rappers alive.

Hmmm i would go with

Del tha Funkee
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Wordsworth
Common
Black Thought
Immortal Technique
Afu-Ra
Saigon

Total opposites of styles of the Wu.But I think the chemistry would be there.

I feel u on the soulja boy thing VZA, but I don't consider him qualified for any position that is remotely related to MCing unless he's takin flava flav's spot in hip hop. Jay is OK. Commercial success, check. Slick lines, check. Message, hmmmmm.... Creativity, .....ehhh. He could do much, much better music and he's even said so. I have a hard time supporting somebody that is willing to "dumb down" his lyrics for others. Jay's put out the best music of his carreer already, he needs to stop. For real, just stop.

I love Lord Have, always have, thats my man right there. To be honest, I don't know who Psychodrama is, but Lord is that motherfucker to me, he WAS the reason I even fucked with Flipmode at the time being. Dude has one of the illest voices and is incredibly lyrical with it.

5kunt...so funny

no disrespect is intended, shizz, I'm just asking questions to stimulate discussions. Also, I listen almost exclusively to the Wu so I have to ask questions if I've never heard an artist. Just because I don't agree doesn't mean I'm demeaning anyone's opinion.

thanx for the input!

Eminem ~ RZA
Obie Trice ~ Raekwon
Virtuoso ~ Ghostface Killah
Canibus ~ Method Man
Immortal Technique ~ O.D.B.
Crypt The Warchild ~ Masta Killa
R.A. The Rugged Man ~ Inspectah Deck
Jus Allah ~ GZA
Goretex ~ U-God

I was wondering who was gonna say em first. why him? which of the wu doctrines do you see him spittin? (which wu member do you think he'd fit a slot for?)

Eminem
Do I really need to explain ???
Similar to RZA he is a master Emcee
Not on the same level as RZA he can do what RZA "did"
With dope rhymes and production.
Eminem is one of the greatest Emcees ever.

Obie Trice
Like Raekwon...has his own unique delivery and has a fair bit of slang too.
I would love to hear them on a track together

Virtuoso
Just like Ghostface Killah he is "Emcee-Ultra" colossal rhymes and long ones too.
I think you would grow a beard if you watched them battle each other !!!!!

Canibus
I merged these two because of some Canibus quotes :
"Canibus Is The Best Next To Mef" & "1,000 Bars From The REAL Iron Lungs"
Also I would love to hear the chemistry between Eminem And Canibus.

Immortal Technique
"Diesel" comes to mind...These are the least similar.
But you could argue that they both hold some real knowlegde
And are both very unique individuals.
They both teach the youth.

Crypt The Warchild
A personal favourite of mine I couldn't help but put him in this !!!!
Masta Killa is like the guy you can't see in the crowd but you know the saying...
"Watch The Quiet Ones" They in my eyes are the unsung heroes of their respective groups.
Wu-Tang & Outerspace/Army Of The Pharoahs.
With both of them..Every verse is venom.

R.A. The Rugged Man
I don't think Deck or pretty much anyone can cope with his flow...
I was gonna merge R.A. with Ghostface but Inspctah Deck isn't ready for Virtuoso.
Both slck on the mic with great flows.

Jus Allah
I loved their collaboration on "Pool Of Blood"
Especially when Jus Allah spits with little anger like on "The Destroyer Of Worlds"
And GZA on "Crash Your Crew" comes with energy but nothing compared to the
Harsh raw anger that Jus Allah can bring.
I think they both take extreme care and time with their lyrics.

Goretex
This guy has the sickest voice I have ever heard and isn't that similar to U-God
But they have "The Voice" and both have crazy lyrics...
Listen to U-God's verses on "To The Resuce"
And I think you will see where I'm comming from.
Goretex is more intricate than U-God but their delivery is unmatched in my opinion.

PEACE
