First off let me just say this is a piece written by Blackw.i.s.d.o.m.
It hit home for me because I can relate to this personally... My Mom also has this framed in caligraphy in her living room..she asked me to ask William ( Blackw.i.s.d.o.m. ) for his permission he said it was an honor...I want to post this as an example of writing from the heart..

No one knows his real name so we just call him Ned
Walking with a bag in my hand but he never has any bread
It’s just that liquid demon that possesses his soul
30 some years but look about 50 years old
Asking for 50 cent or a dollar on the corner of the store
Sometimes I just go and buy the beer so he won’t bother me anymore
But one day he approached me and wanted to have a conversation
I told him to hurry it up cause I ain’t have a lot to time to be wasting
He told me that he was broke and he needed a drink as usual
But this time he said, “Hold up wait Youngblood I think I know your principal.”
With that he got my attention so I became patient and started to listen
He said, “Yeah that was a long time ago, I can’t really say that I miss him.”
“You see we served in the war together. We kilt plenty of men.”
Then he skipped that subject and all of a sudden he shedded a grin
Talking about how when they got out they started to run some gurls
Then all of a sudden it seemed like he went into another world
Speaking of the foolishness they did and how he got hooked on crack
Telling me, “Son there are some things that you can do in life that you can never take back.”
He told me about going cold turkey in some run down rehab facility
Then he told me, “Blood why am I telling you all this. I feel a little silly.”
But I told him, “It’s aight, I never knew anything about you except that bag.”
He said, “Oh yeah, there are some things in life I just gotta have.”
“You see, when you see and do some things in life it’s kinds hard to cope.”
“There have been several times when I envisioned myself hanging from a rope.”
“It was the fluid in this bag that has helped me ease the pain.”
“When outside and in my heart and mind I was about to drown in my rain.”
“My family turned their backs on me and nobody loves me, no one calls me by my name.”
‘Well, what is your name?” “Don’t worry about it boy! I already told you my shame!”
As soon as he approached me he walked off again with that paper bag bumming for change
Sometimes we try to make a difference but as hard as we try some things never change
So he’s still holding on to the only thing that makes a difference in his life that paper bag
It’s the only thing he owns the only thing he needs and probably the only thing he’s ever had

I still have the instrumental and about 3 or 4 freestyles over it. I love the beat but I just can't get right. Hit me up and I'll see what I can do.

I remembered this piece from a while back and Ben reminded me of it today when I was skimming through the post your pictures section... what I like most is the depth of the content (in this case the story behind this mans downfall into alcoholism & homelessness) and in doing so your ability to convey a message about the sorrow encapsulated in a man that would otherwise regrettably be ignored by most of us...keep writing, the world needs this kind of empathy and knowledge...Peace Blackwisdom...
