I hadn't seen any of the Lord Of The Rings films up until recently, because probably similar to most of you lot, I thought it was a bit....gay. But how wrong I was, fair enough I'm no hobbit lover and fantasy films isn't my expert area, but I couldn't help but respect these films from a film making standpoint.

I bought the three theatrical 2 disc versions by the way, got them for pretty cheap too since everyone wants the extended editions.

When posting up my thoughts on them on my DVD colllection account, for anyone who is interested I had this to say about them;


Fellowship Of The Ring - Can't believe I ignored these for so long. Still think they are very overrated by most people though! Most are drawn in by the visual side of things, but for me the story & the journey are the best things. It all fits together nicely and moves along perfectly! Bought this edition because I'm not a huge LOTR fan, so seeing the film alone was enough for me, although the documentaries I got with this were pretty good! I liked the introduction of the Shire, I thought that was done well. I'm not normally a fantasy adventure type of person, but this had something for everyone's taste I think.

Two Towers - Those mountains at the start, I want to go somewhere like there! The Gollum scenes are the highlight for me, they totally manage to bring him to life. This carries and connects perfectly to FOTR. Didn't enjoy this as much, but very, very good anyway. Thought this was very different to the first, much darker, certainly got the balance of battles and story just right! Even if people don't like the monsters and fantasy ideas, they have to respect this if only a technical level!

Return Of The King - The development of Gollum's(or Smeagle's) character at the start was very good to include in the film, and I loved all the scenes that were about Frodo & Sam's journey to destroy the ring. All in all just really a great way to end the trilogy, won't be buying any of the extended editions though. I've heard rumours about a fourth film, I really hope they don't do this, because as I say, it was a perfect way to end it.

Those movies make me wanna travel to New Zealand. And as a fan of the books i was mostly impressed with the movies. they left out the REAL ending in the Return of the King, but it was a good movie nonetheless

Just bought Oldboy - 2 Disc Special Edition - Asia Extreme Collection - DTS (2003)

Really dark film, and for me it deals with wayyy too many dark issues to something which I'll be be watching time and time again, a very...ugly film, it would depress me too much. To back up my point see Tongue or Tooth scene, I'll say no more. It's an amazing film though, brutal, but classic.

The dvd is really cool, three audio commentaries, ten deleted scenes and endless documentaries, I mean come on! I wouldn't even dare criticise that.

Won't talk too much about the film because the twists are vital, and wouldn't want to spoil it for somebody who hasn't seen it. Having said that, if you haven't seen it, see it as soon as possible! I'm quite late I realise, but I'd hate to spoil it for anyone.

Think I'll try and check out more Asian films now. if I get the chance that is, normally quite expensive to get hold of over here.}:|

Do you really think it's possible to give Johnny Depp and Al Pacino a captivating script based on a true story, and end up with anything less than an awesome final product?

I won't even comment on the acting. With those two headlining alongside one another, I put the DVD in expecting greatness. Both deliver. Their onscreen chemistry really is something to behold. Maybe it's because it's a true story, but I really enjoyed this movie.

The DVD itself is surprisingly low budget (:'( ) and since I have a lovely widescreen television I was disappointed to discover that the disc contains a ‘letterboxed’ type version of the film and not the usual anamorphic widescreen. Effectively this means that half of the resolution on my television screen was wasted. The extras besides a making of... trailer are non-existent.

The Lone Wolf and Cub series is possibly the best samurai movies I have ever seen. Bloody as all hell, and even banned in a few countries.

The Lone Wolf's part 1 and 2 were dubbed and edited together into a movie and renamed 'Shogun Assassian'. Which as we all kno, is where all of the sound bites from GZA's "Liquid Swords" was taken from. It also enspired the making of the Kill Bill movies.

I recently saw Shogun Assassain at Wal-Mart for only like 12$. I already got it tho, but I would defenently recommend it to anyone

I haven't had the time to watch all of them yet. I finished the samurai trilogy which is based on the life of Musashi. It was good but it doesnt compare to the book, but that usually is the case. If you can't be bothered reading the book though (not that it takes any effort because it's brilliant) the box set is worth the buy. I mean anything you can get on musashi is worth it...

Seven samurai is fantastic but i am yet to watch yojimbo and sanjuro. But even without watching them i would recommend them. Anything by kurosawa is "worth it".

Lone wolf and cub is another essential. 11th chamber got it right. I wouldn't say it is the best samurai movies i have come across, but it's pretty high on the list.
