IT was a good album but I would put last of the four wu albums.

I agree with your review, but You thought radioactive was wack. LOL. I thought that was the best song on the album. The uzi was not that bad.

Wow your making it seem like the album was whack. This is a great album although it's 3rd best of the clan albums.

2.Rules - 4/5
3.Chrome Wheels - 4/5
4.Soul Power - 4/5
5.Uzi - 5/5
6.One Of These Days - 4/5
7.Ya'll Been Warned - 5/5
8.Babies - 5/5
9.Radioactive (Four Assassins) - 5/5
10.Back In The Game - 4/5
11.Iron Flag - 4.5/5
12.Dashing (Reasons) - 4.5/5

I dont respect all the hate on this album. Its the weakest out of all the clan albums, but its still a banger. Lyrically Wu comes pretty good, production is where I think most people throw theyre hate on. Most of the beats on the album are dope bangers, some are medicore and could have been replaced. Still a dope joint.

I was kind of disapointed at this album. It really should have been better. I dont think its better than "The W". The best song on the entire album is " Yall been warned".....that joint is dope as hell!!!

It's a pretty bleh album... seems unfocused to me, Highlight tracks: Babies, Uzi, In the Hood. There were some really weak tracks, I hated Chrome Wheels and Soul Power, Dashing I thought was a weak track. Then there were some songs which just coulda been better, like needed more energy, The W & Iron Flag for example.
Overall 6/10

i still need to find the time to gather enough patience to hear this album PROPERLY but everytime i try to the hear the album i dont hear or feel the Wu elements, like Dashing is on some nursery rhymes chorus shit . But maybe im hating on the beat selection used throughout the whole album; which at most times does not glove with the tight lyrics; coz the clan still has lyrical ability but the beats need to glove with the MC's. Lyrics on Dashing iz ill Gza & Ins; Babies is FucKING ill alltogether beats & mc's and then its the W; that finishes off the tracks that im able to listen to without me seeking thru the track until i just fast forward; but hey, time will show how still i stand with this opinion THUS making this album MY LEAST FAVORITE of all Wu albums

''The W'' is a banger! to me its the best track on that album

MastaMind
09-13-2005, 08:50 AM
IN THE HOOD - An instant classic. All three MC's rip the mic into shreads and tha beat is a fucking banga! - 5/5
RULES - This is more like sum kinda party shit but it works. Lyrics are very average but Ghost saves this one. Great beat from Math!!! - 3/5
CHROME WHEELS - This song is out of place.. The beat iz on sum serious digi shit. The singing in the chorus gets very irritating.. Two on da road and RZA don't really impress. Obviously the weakest track on tha album. I always skip this when listenin' this album. 1.5/5
SOUL POWER - Damn I remember years ago when I used to bump this shit so hard!!! But now it has gotten pretty boring... Beat is nuttin' special, Flava Flav doesn't belong to dis song really. Regardless, Ghost and Masta rip it - 3/5
UZI - A party type song, not bad at all... Nice when all tha clan members (except for ODB) drop a verse here. GZA outshines everybody here. "The blind couldn't verify the authenticity" - 3.5/5
ONE OF THESE DAYS - Nice beat but it quickly gets boringggg... U-God is unbelievably wack on this track, the other MC's dont shine that much either. Skippable. 2/5
Y'ALL BEEN WARNED - This is straight up DOPE!!! Nice punchlinin' here... Rae's and MK's duetto is the best part.. One of the best track on tha album. 5/5
BABIES - This track has the sweet soul vibe on it... Great storytelling from Ghost, Rae and GZA.. One of the best beats from the RZA i've heard at this century. 5/5
RADIOACTIVE - Sumtimes I just luv the beat, sumtimes I just can't stand it... MK and GZA drop sum real jewels here, Meth and Rae come nice as well. 4/5
BACK IN THE GAME - First I really didn't feel the Trackmasters beat, but now it has grown on me... GZA is fucking magnificient on this one!!! Best verses I've ever heard! Ghost is mad nice too. 5/5
IRON FLAG - This Is Pure Dopeness!!! Oh man, the RZA did great job wit the beat... Rae, Deck and Masta at their best.. Could listen to this track all over and over - 6/5
DASHING - GZA and Deck tag team on this one.. GZA is mad dope as usual, wasn't really feeling Deck... Da beat is very average too. - 3/5
THE W - This track is quite boring. GZA easily outshines everyone here.. Beat is nuttin' remarkable. - 2.5/5

Overall 3.5/5

Obviously this is the weakest Wu-album, but still quite nice... I got sum seriously grimey underground shit on it plus sum party vibe songs... Lack of RZA's vocals plus total absence of ODB are the biggest minuses on the album. And sum songs don't fit the album at all. MK and GZA shine the most. Without a handful of tracks this would've been a classic album.

this LP is just bangin', I thought it went back to their roots compared to the W, which seemed more like an attempt to escape the common commercialism (though I digged that lp too).

Its a Wu album, and thats all I ask for.
Meth, U-GOD and Deck are all real impressive.
(Rza goes without saying)

"Can't believe you on the canvis I'm just throwin jabs,
Where's the powers you supposed have?"
That whole verse is the shit. Actually the whole song is the shit.

The W was better, But like I said, all I want is a new Wu album to add to the collection. I ain't even gonna rate the shit. Cause I can't do better and I'm sure none of you could either. Besides You all know what Martin Lawrence says about critics "Fuck em!"

actually this album is a pretty good one,its a good wu album and thats what it is.

Although the "W" had 4 great songs (Careful/Prtect Ya Neck/Gravel Pit/I Cant Go To Sleep) it also had a lot of filler and wack tracks.

Iron Flag is a much more complete album. You may not love every song, but you can at least listen to them. It did have some great stand outs too such Uzi, Dashing, Rules etc.

A return to the form of old in my eyes although the W cant be said to be less than a 7, so i would give Iron flag an 8 at least

Where I Come from : I thought the W was a much stronger album.

I really liked "In the Hood" , "Uzi" , "Radioactive" , "Yall Been Warned" , "Iron Flag" & "The W"

I really thought these were wack: "Chrome Wheels" , "Soul Power" , "One of these Days" & "Back in the Game"

Neutral on "Rules" , "Dashing" & "Babies". and i don't look to clan albums with only 13 tracks for neutral songs.

Conclusion - I like half of it.

compared to the first two albums this cd is pile of steamin shit. u compare it to the W and its mediocre. i remember runnin out to the store to cop this album teh first day it came out. after being disappointed with The W i was hoppin they had returning to Forever form. i mean RZA was ampin this shit like "we went back to our roots on this LP". i popped that shit in my cd player and listened to it all the way threw. i swear i almost threw up.... incredibly weak production took away from some nice verses. but even lyrically the shit was hit or miss. not nearly as deep as there first 3 albums.
from that day on i pop the cd in once every few months hopin it would grow on me but ive just come to resent it more and more... man wu better come correct and make up for this cd when and if they put out a new LP.

In The Hood - 4.5/5... great start, especially like street's verse...
Rules - 4/5... nice follow up...
Chrome Wheels - 3/5... pretty boring after the first two tracks...
Soul Power - 4/5... just don't like the chorus and the bit at the end... u-god is awesome here...
Uzi - 4/5... i liked this a lot... gza and masta killa stand out...
One of these days - 3.5/5... not as bad as what some say... drags a little...
Yall been warned - 3.5/5... i like rza and raekwon on this...
Babies - 4.5/5... awesome, especially gza...
Radioactive - 3.5/5... never really got into this one...
Back In da game - 4/5... if people didn't read trackmasters, they wouldn't know that it's cool to hate this song... some great verses here are missed because people are too wrapped up in the production credit...
Iron flag - 5/5... one of my favourite wu songs...
The Glock - 4.5/5... i like this a lot... especially the bass...
Dashin - 3/5... gza and ins... should be awesome, but the beat is ok at best...

The album is alright. Better than the W but still not up to par with their other 2. Babies was the best song on the CD. I really don't like Uzi that much, but I can still listen to it. In the hood, and Dashing are other good songs!

I like this way better than "the W", "the W" was so dumbed down and filled with lame guest spots. Iron Flag sounds energized, Ya'll Been Warned is fucking crazy....what really kills me is how U-God and Meth shine on Group efforts but keep putting out trash with their solo efforts.

In The Hood-5/5-Man the intro beat should have been a song! RZA is ill in the beginning. Man this beat is cool. Great beat change though. Horns man! Masta Killllla ripped this shit. Great song probably one of the best wu cuts they've released

Rules-5/5-This song is sick man. Love the scratching. Ghost referred to 9-11 which I think was fitting. Method Man killed this track. Great wordplay. After these 2 tracks, you'd think this album is going to rip The W

Chrome Wheels-2/5-This song sucks, even for a Bobby Digital song, which this sounds like.

Soul Power-5/5-This song is crrrazy catchy. Love the beat it's awesome I think. Flava Flav ehhh not feeling him here. All great verses here I love Raekwons and U-Gods especially. Dope song right here no question.

Uzi-5/5-Yeaaah another sick beat. This album's beats have a more pure, more lively sound to them. They sound new and fresh. I love the dark, gritty beats on the The W, Forever, and 36 Chambers better but these beats have a nice, new sound to them. By the way, Ghost, U-God and GZA ripped it.

One of These Day-3/5-This sounds pretty average. Beat is nothing special. Of, U-God is easily the best on this track.

Ya'll Been Warned-5/5-Dope, dope beat. Got a gritty vibe to it. Method Man flowed fucking perfect on this track. This was his track to own. RZA was nice too.

Babies-5/5-This was the lyrical prowess that wasn't displayed on the W. The W was easily the weakest lyrical album they put out. Ghostface was on some Impossible shit. Raekwon was on some Cuban Linx lyrical shit. GZA is always the best memeber to close out a track. 3 great verses. The beat is real smooth, which is good for this type of track. Chorus was kinda annoying.

Radioactive-4/5-I can see where this beat is annoying to some people, but I think it's pretty sick. I don't think the members really felt the knew how to flow over this one. GZA had a great verse but it didn't seem to fit in great with the beat. Method Man still ripped this shit though. Good song.

Back In The Game-3/5-Pretty decent song. The beat is decent, I love Deck's and GZA's verses here. A spade in the club with the heart to wear diamonds. Sick GZA line.

Iron Flag-5/5-The 1st beat is vintage beat. Fucking siiiiick. Masta Killa fucking destroyed this. I thought this song was going to be an easy classic and one of my favorite hip hop tracks, but the beat changed! It's like a whole different song after about 2 and a half minutes. Good thing we brought the glock is ok I guess, but damn it they shoulda kept the first beat and rolled with it.

Dashing-1/5-Song is whack. All to say

The W-5/5-I grew up around block parties ready to rock, behind a rope nigga with my rhymes on cock. GZA owned this track way better than anyone else. This was the track that was partly heard on The W and I thought it was the sickest beat on the album. I love this beat. Everyone ripped it but GZA was the main course.

I think if you cut this album down to 10 tracks it's near the level of say, Wu Tang Forever Disc 2 or maybe Disc 1. It's a 4.5/5 album with 10 track. It's a 4/5 album for me otherwise

this the second best album from the clan as far as lyrics but some of the beats are awful. i skip through half the album. but the songs that are good are REALLY good so i'd say it was worth my cash...barely.

GENERAL WISE
02-21-2006, 08:50 PM
Lyrics:86%
Beats:81% (some were absolute classics <Babies, The Uzi, In The Hood, Iron Flag, yall been Warned>the rest were horrible)

Overall: 83.5% I thought That Babies, Iron Flag and The UZI were classic tracks worthy of any Wu-release but the rest weren't up to par beat-wise

8/10 good album (higher end of good album< 1.5% more would have made it 9/10 great>)

still Certified gold...it didn't flop for a older hip hop lp coming in the world of Southern Crunk music

wtf is up with having only the Uzi as a video single...

It's a 4/5 album for me otherwise

yeah, i mostly agree with you on this one. But the main thing I gathered from your review is your unbelievable ability to sleep on Deck. It saddens me to see people do that. But I think we've been over this before, so whatever

This Was And Is A Favorite Lp From The Clan As A Whole N Plus This Was More Cohesive Than The W
Here Is My Review On It

1)in The Hood-classic Openning Cut I Think Street, Masta Killa Killed It
2)rules-another Banger To Start Album With I Think Everybody Killed It But Method Shines The Best On This
3)chrome Wheels-i Liked Two On Da Road On This Track And Rza But This To Me Was Always The Track That Felt Outta Place
4)soul Power-great Back In The Day Type Track Reminds Me Of Some The Old Stuff I Think The Flav Outro Is Funny As Hell
5)another Pyn Type Of Joint With Every Member Slaying The Track Except Odb(rip)
6)one Of These Days-another Crazy Beat That Was More Of The Older Style
7)yall Been Warned-another Dart Throwing Type Of Track Where Niggaz Is Just Bustin'
8)babies- A Great Lyrical Joint
9)radioactive-been My Favorite On The Album Everybody Says This Beat Isn't All That But Mef Shined N Destroyed The Track
10)back In The Game-this Track Was Supposed To Be The Second Single Turned Into A Video But Radio Kind Of Shitted On The Wu Cuz They Didn't Play It Like That Thou
11)iron Flag/the Glock-these Two Tracks Seperately Are Classic N Together There Both Amazing
12)dashing-an Ill Winter Wu Christmas Melody I Think This Beat Was Aight N Deck N Gza Killed It

Overall I'd Give It A 8/10 Some Of The Production Was Fucked And Shoulda Had Math Do Some Tracks Instead Of These Unknowns All The Lyrics Was On Point Thou Just Production Had Some Pot Holes

I voted banger, but in reality it's somewhere between a banger and average. Too many bleh moments to be a true banger. Dashing is like the worst beat ever. But I liked this album lots; it's way more cohesive and together than the W, which barely felt like a Wu-Tang album, with all those lame guest spots.

compared to the first two albums this cd is pile of steamin shit. u compare it to the W and its mediocre. i remember runnin out to the store to cop this album teh first day it came out. after being disappointed with The W i was hoppin they had returning to Forever form. i mean RZA was ampin this shit like "we went back to our roots on this LP". i popped that shit in my cd player and listened to it all the way threw. i swear i almost threw up.... incredibly weak production took away from some nice verses. but even lyrically the shit was hit or miss. not nearly as deep as there first 3 albums.
from that day on i pop the cd in once every few months hopin it would grow on me but ive just come to resent it more and more... man wu better come correct and make up for this cd when and if they put out a new LP.

In the Hood (the intro makes it doper) - 8/10
Rules - 7.5/10
Chrome wheels - 6/10 (hate the singing)
Soul Power - 6/10 (blah)
Uzi - 8/10
One Of These Days - 7/10
Yall Been Warned- 8.5/10
Babies- 8.5/10 (would be higher but the singer is shitty)
Radioactive - 6.5/10 (only listenable a couple of times through)
Back In The Game - 7/10 (its ok but it doesnt belong)
Iron Flag - 8/10
The Glock - 9.5/10 (too grimey)
Dashing - 7/10 (barf @ the hook)

Overall its a 7/10.. listenable but not memorable and when I wanna hear some wu I dont bother with this one here. Two of the tracks wouldve been great on a Bob digi album (Dashing and Chrome Wheels). Some corny ass singing brought down two tracks. Flava Flav fillin in for ODB wasnt cutting it on Soul Power and it was too long.

Dashing - 7/10 (pretty good verses gets old quick though)

overall 9/10 Raekwon shines the most on this for me; Rza´s production is more straight forward than on The W. It isnt the best Wu album for me; but it definately has a great feel to it and I think it is underapreciated by most hiphop heads. The Source only gave it 3.5 mics; I think its a 4.5

Word though, its just an updated version of Wu-Tang. Of course if they stuck with the same forumla it'll get old. But even RZA said the best thing about Wu is their evolution.

You gotta understand that at that point they were already legendary.

I guarentee this was better than any studio album released in 01.

its been about 6 years since iron flag dropped.. i dont know how much longer i can ""let it marinate"" .. but i feel the exact same way i do now compared to when i first heard it.. it was not ill.. maybe if it was a solo project or a mixtape compilation i could understand it.. i like a couple of tracks dont get me wrong.. but as an OFFICIAL WU-TANG CLAN ALBUM... NAH.. its a slap in the face.. especially coming straight behind the W... ((the W was a dope album that followed an updated WU formula))...but not this album.. it was an evolution alright.. but not a good one..

Wu's ol' formula could never get old.. cause they havent used it since 1998.. they hardly use it now.. so dont listen to RZA..he dont even know what he be sayin half the time.. i love him.. but thats fuckin bologna!!

11 out of 12 tracks, Though not one of my favorite tracks Uzi (Pinky Ring) wasn't as bad and is actually listenable compared to Radioactive. I hate Radioactive, the beat doesn't get along with my ears. Soul Power is okay, but its too dated. The "2002" killed it. Though it does set the tone of the album for a future listener.

this album's a banger for deffo, but not a classic.

best track is Y'all Been Warned.
reminds me alot of Shadow Boxing from Liquid Swords.

in fact, shadow boxing acapella would sit right on this beat, no doubt..

1.In The Hood - 5/5 - Loved it. This is how you start a Wu album. Unfourtanetly, its all downhill from here.
2.Rules - 2/5 - Ehhh.
3.Chrome Wheels - 1/5 - WTF is this?
4.Soul Power - 3/5 - It's ok.
5.Uzi - 4/5 - Great single, good fam track. All generals on here shine.
6.One Of These Days - 3/5 - Ok production, lyrics are good.
7.Ya'll Been Warned - 2/5 - Annoying.
8.Babies - 5/5 - Classic. Sounds like something from 36 Chambers/Forever era.
9.Radioactive (Four Assassins) - 2/5. Lyrical delivery is there, production devalues this.
10.Back In The Game - 2/5 Same as above.
11.Iron Flag - 3/5 - Could've been alot better. Like this album.
12.Dashing (Reasons) - 4/5 - I liked it.

Some good stuff here and there, but it came off to me as rushed and underperformed. No one gives there A game on here, from production to lyrics. INS does try on here, but he seems to be the only hungry member on here. "In the Hood", "Babies", and "Uzi" save this album from sinking like the Titanic. i know Ill get flamed by IF fans, but come on, how do you go from "36", to "Forever", to "The W", to this? Not to metion the clan wasnt very tight around this time. Cappa and U-God feuding with other clansmen, along with the fact that the production and popularity were on the downside for the Wu. Overall, 6/10. I said it.

Love this album, but never really listened to the first 3 songs. Never in the mood to listen to them. The rest of the album is banging to me, but obviously not as good as it could've been. I still like it though.

Iron Flag ( the track ) is just too dope...damn....one of the best tracks out that year...

THE W
10-16-2007, 12:17 PM
in the hood 9/10
rules 7/10
chrome wheels 4/10
soul power 6/10
pinky ring 9/10
one of these days 5/10
yall been warned 10/10
babies 10/10
radioactive 10/10(boggles my mind how so many people hate this track its the essence of the wu sound)
back in the game 6/10
iron flag 10/10
dashing 6/10
the W 9/10

lyrically its on point but a lot of the beats are corny. with a few exceptions, im not gonna listen to a dope rapper over some weak ass beats.

Iron Flag, Ya'll Been Warned and Uzi were all cool if not amazing. Can barely remember what some of the rest sound like and overall have to admit I haven't played this album in a couple of years.

A lot of tracks seemed like they should be good, but just failed to grab me or make me come back more than a few times (Ya'll Been Warned is a good example).

The W (was a bonus track on my version) is a really nice track. Possibly the one I've listened to most.

CHROME WHEELS-4/5 - The singing and the beat are weak

I don't really get how you think a track where the beat and the singing are weak can still get 4/5.

ShaDynasty

in the hood 10/10 (great start to the album, super banger of a beat and great verses esp streetlife)
rules 8/10 (nice upbeat track, cool energy to it)
chrome wheels 10/10 (really liked this, not your typical wu beat but pretty dope, 12 o'clock had a nice verse)
soul power 6/10 (not awful but that outro with meth and flav chatting was a bit self indulgent)
pinky ring 10/10 (classic shit, love the energy and flow of the track and all had good verses)
one of these days 8/10 (pretty wak U-God verse but otherwise fresh enough)
yall been warned 10/10 (as wu as wu gets, true master is genuinely one of the best producers of all time, RZA killed it)
babies 10/10 (classically soulful wu sound with great social commentary and an especially poignant GZA verse)
radioactive 9/10 (nice banger, good GZA lyrics)
back in the game 10/10 (GZA again kills it, but Ghosts verse is crazy, probably the hardest beat Poke n Tone ever made)
iron flag 10/10 (probably the best track on the album, energetic but soulful first half followed by a super grimy slow burning track about the dangers of the hood)
dashing 6/10 (dull beat)
the W 9/10 (classic wu ish)

overall a classic album, but the law of diminishing returns is definetly in effect, a couple of glaring quality control issues.

12.Dashing (Reasons) - 4.5/5

This is a much better ranking on the album. I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE all the hate or sleeping on this album. I honestly LOVE this album. It's got a different vibe and all the generals tear it up for real. I would NOT rate this as their worst album, depending on how 8 Diagrams does, but either way, it gets a close 3rd to me. As far as personal taste, track for track, best bang for the buck, I could boast it as #2. Most people will trip out on me saying this, but if you look at the ratio of # of tracks per album, it deserves a higher ranking - i.e.: Forever had a lot of tracks on it, but for the amount of tracks IronFlag had, it comes in as a close third. Wu tried something different with this and I think it worked out. Would I rate it better than other classics like 36 Chambers or Liquid Swords, or OB4CL (that kinda thing), no, but it definitely is getting slept on.

1. In da hood 8/10- good street banger
2. Rules 9/10- love this beat, song is live, the chorus is a little "ehh"
3. Chrome wheels 6.5/10- don't really feel this track at all, it's ok. it sounds like it was meant for killa beez "the sting"
4. Soul power 8/10- i love this track, verses are ill, ugod shines. old skool shit
5. Uzi 7.5/10- hype track, but overated, should not have been a single
6. One Of These Days- 8/10-great song, great sound
7. Ya'll been warned 7/10- i don't like meth on chorus, or track. he doesn't mesh well with everyone else's "non-commercial" sound, but rest of song:thumbup:
8. Babies 9.5/10- deep tracks that i love from them, i need more like this
9. Radioactive 8/10- tight track, they come hard. the beat is different
10. Back in the game 8/10-i love that meth didn't try to out shine his crew, he blends perfectly, this track is nice. different sound for the wu
11. The Iron Flag 10/10- sounds like a "forever" track. one of my favorite wu tracks. i can't get over how much i love this track.
12. Dashing 7/10- the intro killed this song, but it sucks cause the song is cool. but the intro made it corny."dashing through the hood... come on.

TOtal Rating 8/10(i did the mathematics)- so why do people say this album is weak. the problem is people don't want artists to even slightly change. theres nothing that makes this album better or worse than their other shit. after reviewing it realized that this album is really fucking good, forever is really fucking good and 36 chambers is reall fucking good. point is that theirs tracks on iron flag that are better than tracks on the w, theres tracks on the w that are better than tracks on forever and theres tracks on forever that are better than tracks on 36. judge the music by the music, not by which album it came on. regardless this album is better than most of the shit that came out that year and every year after that.

I'd give this album about 8/10, maybe 8.5. It has some killer joints like iron flag and babies, but other so n so tracks like chrome wheels, and the beat to dashing is annoying. If some of the tracks were replaced/changed, ones which mainly come to mind include chrome wheels, the dashing beat, one of these days beat, and MAYBE soul power, then this album wouldve been a near classic.

they are pretty leveled....I think IF has better lyrics and more diversity in the songs....but The W has better beats and it more feels like a real album, altho some songs don't belong on it (Do you really, Conditioner)...

both are 4/5 :)

05 - Uzi/Pinky Ring (5/5)

11 - Iron Flag (5/5)
The Glock (3.5/5)
12 - Dashing/Reasons (3.5/5)
13 - The W (4/5)

Overall a solid 4/5 album, but not many tracks really stand out and compared to other Wu albums it falls pretty flat. Lyrically it's often better than The W but it feels more like a handful of tracks (possibly scrapped from various solo projects) put together than an official Clan album.

Chrome Wheels is wack - Bob Digi doesn't belong on a Wu album.

Iron Flag (the track) is HOT, beat is fire, i would have loved the whole Wu to spit over that as like a Triumph MKII, beat is wasted because the song cuts short.

Definately the best album...

outside of 36 and forever of course.
This is a street album, not a dark and gloomy one like the W.
you can't really hate on it unless all you want to hear is dark shit.beats are mostly all upbeat and lyrics are crazy.
Rae and Gza still spit wit feeling, not like now all laid back.
The only thing missing is a skit or two(or maybe not) 9/10
