He died in 1999? What a sad loss for hip hop. Big L would've been a underground star if he had still been alive. This dude was so ill on the mic. Canibus needs to take notes from Big L by listening to Big L's only album and seeing how good his beats were on that album. Because as Canibus can see, it doesn't mean anything if you're a good lyricist and your beats are wack.

What you talking about fuck the beats? Beats are the reason why Canibus's albums suck. It's his fault because he could've worked with DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Da Beatminerz, Erick Sermon, Kenny Parker, Lord Finesse and other tight eastcoast producers but he keeps working with these low budget wack producers that fuck up his albums.

Canibus needs to work on his flow before he tries to touch a Premo beat

in my eyes not as dope as everybody think. To me, he was just a cool guy with cool voice and cool flow, but too repetitive..just my opinion

...R.I.P !!!

Big L was a dope lyricist....hit punchlines were fukin ill and his flow was on another level I reckon he would have made it big once if the deal with Rocafella happened. R.I.P. Cop Lifestylz and The Big Picture both very good albums

If he would've signed with Rocafella, i bet Damon Dash and Jay-Z would've tried to turn him into a mainstream rapper. He would've been better off staying underground if he had lived.

R.I.P. to Harlem's greatest (no matter what Camron jabbers).

Big L would've been a underground star if he had still been alive.

Yeah, rite. He would now be dropping already-thousand-times-heard albums produced by Ax the Bull and Street Radio and everyone would say that they suck... and we would argue if he has any talent or is just another rapper that had his shot and fucked it up.

probably my favorite mc ever and im inclined to call him the GOAT. No mc has ever had the raw talent on a mic that L had imo....he said whatever the fuck he wanted and never lost a battle, rappers were even afraid to step to L in a battle.

Hes probly the only rapper i could listen to over literally any beat, fuck i could listen to L acappela. If he made an album with a kid banging on a trash can for beats id fuckin buy it...the fact that made him so great was his ability to stay on topic throughout a WHOLE song, he had a sick voice, could change his flow and speed at will, kept you entertained in songs with humor and had the most ridiculous punchlines ever

RIP L

I read an interview from Proof saying that Big L came to Detroit and roasted guys in a bunch of battles... kinda dope when you think that Big L must have met Eminem.

Just a little something I found;

Chino XL

Yeah we did (record the Wake Up Show freestyle together), we came to L.A. for the first time around the same time, he was a great cat and an incredible MC. Yeah man…L was the illest.

DJ Lennox

Harlem's finest…what more can I say? Dude was a beast. One of the best to ever hit you with the witty comical punch lines. Lines that you would repeat to your boys, trying to act like they were your own. (Laughs.) Rest in peace L.

Keith Murray

He was a gemini like me so we clicked, we used to hang on his block 135 and go to The Tunnel and other clubs just gettin' to know each other. Which would have led to makin' records together but I went to the pen and he got killed so we never got to work together. A good friendship in the makin' snuffed out by jail and death; the way most black male's relationships get destroyed.

Big L was and still is one the most creative artists to touch the mic and he was my personal friend. I remember hanging with him in Harlem all the time. I'm still fucked up over his death and to top it off, we didn't get a chance to rock together. I know it's hard for him to do so, but rest in peace Big L, you're gone but not forgotten.

Phat Kat

Big L was clearly one of illest MCs from the NYC, hands down! May you never be forgotten L, R.I.P.
