View Full Version : LA THE DARKMAN - Best Killa Bee EVER?

I really think so...
This is NOT a shock thread.
I know a lot of people are gonna jump in here saying Killah Priest, (which is a legit argument), or Holocaust (NOT a legit argument), or guys like Killa Sin & Timbo King who've never even dropped a solo...
But seriously think about it. He's always on point with the hooks, the lyrics. Can flow on every type of beat, flexing every type of style with equal skill.
Never drops wack product. His skill level is on par with any of the Generals.
Sure some people are gonna jump in here saying his new shit is dumbed down, but it's still on point. He understands the state of the game right now, and realizes people want that slick, quotable shit. But he doesn't do it in a sell out way. Shit is as hard as ever.
I'm taking into account his overall skills, his track record, and overall success when I say he is the best killa bee ever.
The closest argument would probably be Killah Priest, but let's be real people, his style does not appeal to a wide audience, and I don't think he has the voice or natural talent that La has. Don't get me wrong, I love Priest but you have to be in the mood to listen to his shit.
Let's discuss.
PS - No dumb shit...If you disagree, just back up your argument with valid points.

Love him. (homo?)
nah.. but "Heist of The Century" is a personal classic. I can't believe hewas fucking 18 when he did that shit.
Now though, I can't ride with La's southern-fried bullshit. I could barely get through half of that Gangsta Grillz mixtape .. shit was so wack.. and he kept doing that UUUHHHH bullshit on every track.

haha...That "UUUHHHH" shit is more the DJ puttin it on there as a tag rather than La doin' it every time. I know how you feel tho I wasn't all about the down south style at first either but now I get it. Give it a few more spins I bet it'll grow on you. Better yet, grab a bitch, get nice, and take a ride somewhere wit it and I guarantee you'll be feelin' it!

Co-sign.
I think he's actually been on tracks with every one of the generals tho...Not too many people can say that.

imo a killa bee needs to drop at least two dope albums before he can be considered for top killa bee status, right now my view of La is that he is a one hit wonder.

la imo is sicker now than ever. he murderes these southern rappers on their own game every single song on his new mixtapes. his delivery of these simple ass lines is sickening... hes better than half the wu by himself right now. his flow, delivery, enthusiasm is unmatched right now. dumping the ruger got played in my whip all last summer.

But it's all unfocused, thats what mixtapes are, just a bunch of songs pulled together from various sessions with little to no thought put behind them. I've heard those mixtapes too and imo his skills vary from song to song and as a whole I haven't found those mixtapes to be all that.

CO-SIGN 100%
His delivery is on another level..Lol I completely agree that he is murdering these southern rappers at their own game..And he makes it sound so effortless. And yes, he is better than at LEAST half the Wu.
to me best killa bee ever is Shabazz
Shabazz is ill as fuck. But he just doesn't have the resume..No REAL albums to his credit. And not as versatile. I like Shabazz more than Killah Priest tho.
i understand why people dont want to say killa sin, only for the fact he has really no solo material. but every verse he has ever spit that we have heard is ill to the next level.
Killa Sin is straight up nastiness yes. But he only really has the one style. I'm sure if he did not get locked up or put in the work to further his solo career, he would be in this discussion. "Hav Mercy" shows his potential was unlimited.
la the best
I'm starting to think that...

La has his own thing.. he never really went hard at the Wu theme.. like being all with the Shaolin and mystical vibe.. which is cool. there's a diverse roster in Wu-Fam. Like I can't say he's a better lyricist than Killa Sin, Killah Priest or Timbo King (which I think are the best three in the Wu outside of the clan) but he's different.. he takes care of his own 'chamber' ykno?
I wish he was more with Wu now. He never came weak on anything.. I was just listening to "Walk The Dogs" the other day.. that shit is nice too.
What are these: "file:///C:/Users/WDonohue/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpgLies Tell Vision" and "Safe Box" .. never heard of them. "This Thing" is truth.

In this respsect, then yes, either he or Hell Razah is the best. But if we're talking line-for-line, it's a whole different argument, and La may not even be in top tier; it'd probably be a matter of opinion more than anything else..

I respect your view.
I would definitely put Priest ahead of Razah tho. Although I was listening to Razah's Ladder today for the first time since I bought it and that shit was off the hook.
I gotta disagree wit La not being able to go line for line.
He doesn't get all spiritual or mystical and shit like that, but he's more than capable.
He drops simpler lines that a broader range of listener can relate to...But delivers them so fiercely and sharply that it comes off ILL.
I just feel like KP & Razah are somewhat limited...By their voices, subject matter, etc.
Shabazz actually has the potential to challenge, but so far has not come up with the goods. I hope he sits down and really focuses on giving us fans a classic record.
Killa Sin & Timbo King need to drop some solos on us!!!
On a side note, are we all pretty much agreeing that these are the top individual Killa Bees?
I'm sure Bronze Nazareth & Holocaust will get some love on these boards as well...
Imagine a group with all these guys...That would challenge the original Clan in terms of dopeness!
Add longtime associates Cappadonna & Streetlife into the mix and that would make an ill collection of 9 MC's.
- Killah Priest
- Hell Razah
- La the Darkman
- Killa Sin
- Cappadonna
- Streetlife
- Timbo King
- Bronze Nazareth
- Holocaust
KP & Razah are like RZA & GZA droppin jewels.
Bronze is RZA on the boards, Masta Killa with the calm deadly flow.
La the Darkman & Killa Sin are the street duo of Rae & Ghost.
Timbo King has the voice, and adds the witty element of Method Man.
Streetlife is a Staten Island street nigga like Deck, Cappa is the irreverent U-God.
And Holocaust is of course the wild card like Ol' Dirty Bastard.

La the Darkman is indeed one of the dopest killa beez ever...
When it comes to flow he might be the best, the way he switches his style up on every new mixtape that he does.
Lyricaly though, I dont think he's all that. His last mixtape is pretty much more of the same (drugdealin gangster shit) which is cool but is gettin too repetitive now. I mean his last two tapes both got a song called 'Im a G' on it, but those are different songs LOL
Also in the Heist of the century days i felt like he was pretty much sayin what Wu Tang & Mobb Deep was sayin but in a slightly different way.
So yeah when it comes to Voice, delivery & flexibility I think hes the illest, but lyricaly... Nah not original

La is mr. consistency in the sense he never drops anything wack BUT Killa Sin is an overall better rapper.
I wish Sin was free and Doc Doom was alive because these three are hands down the best Wu-affiliates. I liked Holocaust before he went retarded, Timbo King is dope but besides cuts on Royal Fam, Maccabeez and BMM CDs he does nothing but push old mixtapes and Killah Priest's new shit isn't even close to anything like Heavy Mental.

Yes its different, yes its somewhat commercial, but just cuz its not "wu sounding" doesn't mean it isn't good. Most of the killa beez that are still "wu sounding" are no longer relevant. I wish they were, because I love that sound, but the so called fans do not support the artists who make the music they like.
It is what it is. I think people need to open up their ears & minds more. If you like hardcore street rap then how do you not feel LA??? I'm startin to think dude who was crackin on europeans was right...too many fairy ass wu fans.

I don't like "best" arguments but La the Darkman, Hell Razah, and Killah Priest are by far, hands down, the creme de le creme of the Wu tang academy graduating class.
This is based on the amount of albums/mixtapes they've dropped and the quality/consistently of their dropped material.
There are some runner ups of course - Prodigal Sunn, Shyheim, Timbo King, Dom Pachino, Holocaust, Killa Sin, etc.
King and Sin have only dropped verses and no albums (outside of Killarmy albums);
Sunzini's album was average at best and only shines on Sunz albums and his guest spots;
Dom Pachino - He kind of fell off lyrically and styllistically
Shyheim - has some pretty dope shit, but he just doesn't quite measure up
Holocaust - Good for him for having a dedicated fanbase. I use to love to listen to him when he was making more sense. Now he seems to be a bit absurd on his records.

a lot of wu-tang you can't just play over a car stereo or something similar and expect people to dig it the first listen though, a lot of it is headphone material
I remember playing cuban linx in the car with my sister and she was like WTF I didn't understand a single word they said, like it was in another language lol. But someone like myself can enjoy it cause I've already know the words and have analyzed it.
Mumm Ra
04-02-2009, 09:16 PM
Plus I wasn't surprised because as "engineer majors" they are probably very linear, left-brained thinking people. Which would explain a great deal why they like Gucci Mane at all.

Thats the beauty of it, it's how you interpret it.
They don't know anything regarding Holocaust.
How he is 5 Emcees in one.
How he mastered rhyming and then explored the corridors.
And they call him wack ?
Like Lucid said "Left Brain" they preffer Gucci Mane because they can handle that
On the enginerring side, they aren't ready for Holocaust, so they simply dismiss him.
Try asking them what they think of Pablo Picasso compared to Leonardo Da Vinci
Or Salvador Dali compared to Vincent Van Gogh
All deserve their props, it's down to what you prefer.
"Pour Bullets Into A Shot Glass"

I would say that Killah Priest has always been a stand alone type of guy, even if he does have ties to wu-tang. His discography speaks for itself in that regard.
La is definitely next in line though, Heist of the Century is such a classic album.

My personal opinion is Razah, then I could fuck with La. I would put Killa Sin up there, but the only material he got is Killarmy verses. And Holocaust ain't been ill since '98, he used to be an incredible MC, but that motherfucker lost his mind.

killah priest is the all time greatest--and the weird thing is.....he just keeps getting better while most rappers get worse as time goes on

they told me is "Just too out there, and he doesn't link his lines together"
= linear thinking. hah right on the money!
it's all peace though :hippy:
I was thinking about this during work last night anyways and warcloud music is like a goddamn right brainer playground. It's fun to me to try and figure out a metaphor to what the hell he's saying. Like in "Whoops I'm an Indian" he says "..convict pajama world.." and I didn't get it until the next day that it describes the world pretty perfectly - a world of no-gooder's and spiritually asleep (in pajamas) people. He does this a lot. 95% of people are just gonna take it at face value and think it's nonsense.
not only that but warcloud conjures up a lot of imagery, feeling and atmosphere in his music (right brain)
people can say they don't like his music but I don't see how anybody could dismiss this man as a great artist.
funny how that thin line works between utter nonsense and thought provoking lyrics.
oh and yes LA the Darkman is awesome, especially since we're both from the same city ^O^
I still play Living Notoriously in the car

My opinion is that 9/10 Warcloud Fans THINK they know what he's saying. This nigga can write a verse talking about complete bullshit and people will think he's talking about the second coming of jesus. LOL It's all good though, to me he's not that great of a artist. He raps about fiction in all his ryhmes, none of his shit is real to me. Can you really listen to more than 5 songs by this guy in a row? If you can props to you. Killah Priest>Warcloud. But I respect your thoughts.

LOL. Stop. LA & Priest speak about real topics, not robotic spaceships and androids...
LMAO!! This cracked me up. Hollow, when you talk about Warcloud....you're hilarious lol. That dude is dope but I understand that he's not for everyone. I do respect your opinion. Killah Priest has the best catalog. La only had 1 dope album. Heist of the Century is a borderline classic in my book though. Killah Priest > La

One guy who beats La is the one man from his own hometown....
Great Migration > Heist of the Century

yeah I listen to his first two albums straight through all the time, usually no song skips, and his Holocaust album got a lot of rotation.
shit I might listen to his whoops I'm an indian song 5 times in a row hah, love that shit.
I would put Killah Priest as my second favorite killa bee though no doubt.

I know you like some of his work, but MF DOOM, U-God and Ghostface
At times do remind me of Holocaust in they're rhyme patterns and bizarre content
All be it that Holocaust takes it to extreames...(which isn't a bad thing in my opinion)
I'm not saying he's the second coming of jesus
Just that it's not bullshit like a lot of people think
I think it's great that there are these kinds of Artists
Also his sheer diversity should be applauded if not his delivery, and creativity.
And I could easily play 5 tracks by him in a row.
Killah Priest is more focused and is always dopping flames and adding to his catalog.
He also has diversity and a variety of songs.
But Holocaust is my favourite, he's just an anomaly.
Priest is my favourite though, I've noticed a lot of people like them both quite a bit.
La The Darkman is dope, but I wouldn't put him near Priest of Warcloud.
Just straight skills.

I would definitely put Priest at the top, I would put LA over Warcloud due to the fact that he spits the realness on his tracks. You are right though, I won't sit here and lie. I am feeling Holocaust/Architect Style. That's about it. And the sad thing is that's only 5 Songs "Midnight In The Garden of Good" "One Standard Lesson" "Old Toy Room" "Sweeping Bullet Shells" & "Bluntz, Martini's , Girls & Gunz". And On Top of that he only has about 3-4 good guest verses "Silkworm" "Doomsday" "Bastard Swordsman" "Wretcheds of The Earth"... I actually listened to the Black Knights Album and I can clearly see why he was removed. This nigga is off topic in every rhyme "Almighty Black Knights" listen to that shit, Doc Doom is pretty good then you hear "Bullets in a basket" "Fingers Lift Up her skirt" LMAO. I was listening to this on the train today and I started laughing out loud and people were looking at me like I was crazy. Besides that on all the other tracks, he's just doing the opposite. His verse on "Smack This Bitch" was horrible....anyways I do agree that Ghostface is Out there especially at his peak but at least it was some earthly real shit. "Vegetable Lasagna Niggaz" or "Mythical Swamp filled with Horrific Creatures and Living Skeletons"? But to eaches own. I do respect him for being completely original, but his head is WAY up his ass if he thinks he's the best person from Wu-Tang.

As far as straight RAPPING SKILLS, La the Darkman SHITZ on Priest and Warcloud BIG TIME.
lol...it's not even CLOSE.
La can spit every style and be expert on the mic.
He can appeal to any type of fanbase and be ill as fuck.
i LOVE pRIEST AND wARCLOUD, BUT LETS BE HONEST THEY ARE VERY LIMITED RAPPERS.
Priest basically just appeals to Priest fans. Same can be said for Warcloud.
Priest got strong lyrics but his flow and charisma suck. Also his subject matter gets redundant when he does it the same way everytime.
Warcloud is mad interesting, and I just like listenin to the nigga, but lets be real, he is straight embarrassing to play outside the privacy of your own home.
Roll up on da block and bang out Warcloud from your system and watch niggaz reactions lol.
All these emo whiteboys are the biggest Holocaust fans.
Street niggaz be like WTF???
Real talk.
Sorry, somebody gotta keep it real up in here.
(That said, I am a fan of Priest and Holocaust...Don't get it twisted. But thats only cuz I'm a Wu-Stan.)

La dumbed it down bigtime after Heist of the Century. Most of his songs now are corny and boring and sound like they should be played on the wackass mainstream radio stations. He may be doing his thing and making some dollars...... more powere to you LA....... but as far as being a top notch MC..... it looks to me that those days were short lived thru the Heist of the Century. Again no blatent disrespect to LA..... but i can name at least 10 Killa Beez that will tear him up on the mic.
Cmon guys... isnt this obvious????????
