if you have any good music to recommend to people, lace it down here ...
okay, today i've decided i really need to branch out my music horizon's ... pretty much getting over hip hop at the moment and the rock/metal i've got i've thrashed out to the death so i need something new ... i like bands like
AC/DC
black sabbath
led zeppelin
Alice Cooper
Mötler Crüe
Cream
Accept
Pink Floyd
Muddy Waters
yada yada yada ... pretty much the general basic of what everyone in the soundlack listens to, basically anything my dad was into ... but i need to go beyond that and since the soundshack people are usually on point i would like some recommendations, please
had to merge bone, sorry.
Alice Cooper

Working my way through downloading most of the stuff recommended here.
Only thing i've had a good listen to is Country Life.
And it's fucking good.
I'll cosign Palantines list, especially The Stone Roses and also The Editors.
Seemed as though the Editors got/get a lot less attention as oppose to bands like Bloc Party, Interpol etc. but The Back Room is a pretty great album.

Been thinking of the other P Funk albums to recommend apart from those already stated, and i can't really decide.
But i think Funkadelic's debut Osmium is overlooked a lot, and it's a really good album.

alright the title is pretty self explanitory - name the albums that you think people should atleast try to listen in whole too, not albums with one or good songs, not fuckin ........ albums that you and your boys love because you grew up with, not albums that have just dropped, albums that have:
* stood the test of time
* inspired
* have been held in high regard by veterans of the same/similar scene
* awesome songs start to finish
one album at a time, and give reasons why you think the album in your opinion has classic value.
one album at a time & respect peoples own opinion - avoid arguing because believe it or not, people have different opinions than you. and their opinion is as valid as yours. ADD ON !

This album 'TEN' holds such beauty as: Jeremy, Oceans, Even Flow & Alive
it was created around the year 1990 and was the mainstream debut for the legendary band Perl Jam
anyone into rock or grunge will agree this album is one of the best ever made
every instument plays its part, vocals are perfect and heart felt, topics revelant no matter the time and also have no dectection of bullshit or ego.
for me they dont get much better to smoke a spliff too, watch the waves roll in at night, get close to your closest, wake up on a sunday morning, chill out in the car too, get rediculously drunk too after a hardship, work out too, work too, eat - sleep and wash too. this album is for everybody.

Burial - Untrue
http://strangeglue.com/files/2008/mercurymusic/burial.jpg
Pretty much the best thing to come around since the advent of paganism.
This album is just lyrical as fuck in such a profound, and non lyrical jam session of shimmering static, stark white noise, disturbing wales and darkness as dark as a shadow at night.
The number of times i've listened to this on a late night bus trip or while i was walking around in the rain broadcasting pirate radio is innumerable.
Homeless is the most evocative narrative of a non narrative, communicated in such a visual but entirely aural fashion.
Burial throws in some sly two step to keep the haters wishing they had left the walking sticks at home because they'll be leaving on crutches.
The sampling = ((Stoupe + Blue Sky, Black Death x DJ Premier) + (1 + The RZA) ^ J Dilla)
This is the kind of record that you throw on after blazing Christmas trees on the clouds of infinity and begin to comprehend, the way.
It becomes more about listening to the album, as oppose to just hearing it.
You can just be there thinking you're watching some gritty 70's British cinematographer throwing his ideas up on the wall, before you realise you're listening to music.
It transcends the medium and behaves in universally conjunctive manner with any other medium.
You can 'listen' to the album anywhere, in any different form.
This is the kind of record that you throw on at fredy mech's house to indoctrinate him with appreciation and fear of the god.
I think the pagans know what i mean.

Van morrison astral weeks, the album just sounds so fresh i think its timeless
Reviewby William RuhlmannAstral Weeks is generally considered one of the best albums in pop music history. For all that renown, Astral Weeks is anything but an archetypal rock & roll album: in fact, it isn't a rock & roll album at all. Employing a mixture of folk, blues, jazz, and classical music, Van Morrison spins out a series of extended ruminations on his Belfast upbringing, including the remarkable character "Madame George" and the climactic epiphany experienced on "Cyprus Avenue." Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, Morrison sings in his elastic, bluesy voice, accompanied by a jazz rhythm section (Jay Berliner (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:39fixqr5ldde), guitar, Richard Davis (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:aifuxqt5ldke), bass, Connie Kay (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:gzfqxqt5ldfe), drums), plus reeds (John Payne (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:azfixq90ldae)) and vibes (Warren Smith, Jr. (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1:WARREN%7CSMITH,%7CJR.)), with a string quartet overdubbed. An emotional outpouring cast in delicate musical structures, Astral Weeks has a unique musical power. Unlike any record before or since, it nevertheless encompasses the passion and tenderness that have always mixed in the best postwar popular music, easily justifying the critics' raves.

whaaaaat? for real dog?
i think the red was closest in sound to the blue; which is clearly their best. most weezer fans i know were fans of the red.
red albums isnt very good at all. Pinkerton assfucks it.
Red album was a PIECE of SHIT. Sounded nothing like Blue. Red is garbage and I love Weezer. Pinkerton is the best Weezer album.

i think the red was closest in sound to the blue; which is clearly their best. most weezer fans i know were fans of the red.not at all, it seems as if every song was written TRYing to be a radio-friendly hit. I know they've put out a bunch of radio-friendly joints before this but it never seemed like that's what they were aiming for (regardless of whether they were or not)
Red album was a PIECE of SHIT. Sounded nothing like Blue. Red is garbage and I love Weezer. Pinkerton is the best Weezer album.
for me its a toss up between the Blue album and Pinkerton but you can't go wrong either way. You could tell the lesbian break-up fucked with ol' boy throughout on Pink. It's kinda fucked how pain so often makes for great music.

I remember hearing this guy talking about Rivers Cuomo on the radio.
He does this show which looks at music in terms of philosophy.
He related Cuomo to Dostoevsky's Underground Man, and talked about how Weezer's recent album was intentionally 'commercial' for want of a better word.
I thought it was a bit of a stretch at the time.
I have it somewhere on my itunes, i'll see if i can dig it up.

this collection of koko taylor's chess recordings is amazing. it contains the classic "wang dang doodle" and my all time favorite blues song, "insane asylum," which is a duet with willie dixon.

Me?
Which one?
The music is by Maethelvin, who is part of a collective called Valerie who make sort of 80's revival synth music and are mostly situated in Nantes.
If that's what you're referring to, i'll make a thread about it, because i have heaps of tunes in a similar style.

I'd have to go with Rolling Stones Forty Licks. It's all the best on a double cd. I know it's kind of cheating throwing in a greatest hits package but this truly is an amazing album. The best compilation I've ever heard. If I was stranded on a desert island with one album this definitely would be it!!
