the mentality is wrong

since when do diets work?

it's about eating the right foods and being healthy, not weight

since when do diets work?

When they're A) applied right, b) In accordance to the person's relative body condition, C) Used in conjunction with an exercise regime relevant to point B.

Jesus, these KTL types are as thick as two planks.

a diet may work for a time being if done correctly in conjunction with a work out plan and what not.

but the problem with diets are when people get off them they just gain the weight back.

you have to do it the way diggy said. dont go on a diet. literally change your diet. if you want to keep it off in the long haul anyways.

straight up dude, eat several fruits and veggies a day. try and eat fish, a lot of people dont like it but eh, man up. choose chicken instead of the red meats. eat 5 or 6 smaller meals through out the day to keep your metabolism up. make sure you always eat breakfast to kick start that metabolism. higher your metabolism, the more calories you burn, more calories you burn more weight you lose. also if you want to lose weight you need to straight up run. you can bike or do elliptical machines or whatever but the most effective, albeit biggest pain in the ass, is just to get outside and run (or on a treadmill i guess if your someplace cold). if you want to tone up, add a weight routine to your new found change in eating habits and running. 3 or 4 days a week should be sufficient. rotate the muscle groups giving enough time for each to rest. if you want to gain muscle mass and not just tone up increase your protein intake heavily (milk, fish, chicken, nuts). and a biggie to loose fat, is obvious but tough, cut out the shit food. let yourself get 1 or 2 cheat meals a week but thats really it.

theres a quick start off the top of the dome for you.

A diet is your eating habit. Some people automaticaly assumes it means eating less to lose weight. So, theoretically I am correct.

well technically, because the word has different meanings. we are both correct.

but normally when people hear diet they think atkins and southbeach.

over weight is a subjective term though. obviously he is, because hes saying he wants to lose weight.

but a guy can be 5'3 weigh 180 and be jacked. technically overweight for his height but not fat ya know what im saying.

fredy is the only person in this thread who gave you some good information, the rest I read was complete bullshit.

anyway, here are some eating rules (I stay with em all the time, not just in a diet):

no carbs 5 hours before you sleep (that includes booze!)
don't combine fat + carbs in one meal (fat + protein, carbs + protein are ok)
only drink water, green tea (speeds up metabolism, you burn more calories)

that's it, easy right?

Workout = Do lots of weight training(especially exercises that make you sweat since they work more muscles) since the muscle will raise your metabolism. If you do cardio, do interval exercises(go as fast as you can for 1 minute and rest between 1-3mintues) because traditional cardio becomes catabolic(body eats muscle).

Diet = Try to eat 80% healthy and 20% of other stuff so you don't become insane. Avoid lots of sugar/processed grains(white bread/white paste) since they basically crank up your blood sugar. When blood sugar is surged up it will create insulin which promote fat gain. Get use to drinking water(3-4 litres) compared to alcohol/pop/juice. Really try to eat more natural/real foods(meat, veggies, fruits) instead of all this processed foods. Really try to be patient with the results since your goal is to promote health as weight loss should be secondary. And finally to make this short, don't get crazy about weighing yourself for results since you don't know how much water/body fat/muscle your losing.

PS don't starve yourself like a nazi prisoner.
