View Full Version : Top 10 Non Hip Hop Albums

03-23-2009, 10:29 PM
I know this has probably been done in here a few times, and I apologise for doing it again if it has been. I searched the first 10 pages or so in here and only found top 10 artists, rock bands, and rock albums threads, so I gave up. This thread is for your top 10 albums from any genre outside of hip hop.

The reason I'm doing this thread is because I'm kind of at a point right now where not a lot of the music I own appeals to me all that much, and I want to check out a bunch of new stuff, but have nothing in particular in mind. I thought I might check out some of the albums that get mentioned here, more or less at random.

And PLEASE try to keep it to 10 and 10 only, hard as it may be.

You can see from my own top 10 that I'm in desperate need of some more variety. In no order...

Radiohead - The Bends
Radiohead - OK Computer
Radiohead - In Rainbows
R.E.M. - Lifes Rich Pageant
R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi
R.E.M. - Accelerate
R.E.M. - Up
Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Oasis - What's the Story? (Morning Glory)

10th album = Undecided.

Don't all rush to post your lists at once. I need some time to digest this overwhelming barrage of replies.

When Oasis dropped (What's the story) Morning Glory, that was something epic in the school yard lol I don't remember a single that had everyone singing at recess and lunch like we did with Wonderwall. But yeah, the list;

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Accept - Balls to the Wall
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beats
Led Zeppellin - IV
Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare
Nouvelle Vague - Nouvelle Vague
Flower Travelling Band - Satori

The first 8 were embedded into me before I turned 7 years old, so I really can't go past them. I used to listen to Off The Wall on casette religiously.

The other 2 I reccommend checking out if you want to branch into something different.

this is hard because im trying to rate albums from different eras/genres and their really pretty different. Like, i really like Metallica's albums, but i dont really like Metal other wise, and i dont know where to fit one of them in. Also Zeppelin is my favorite band but none of their albums really stick out compared to the others, they're all really good.

The Beatles - Sgt Peppers
The Beatles - The White Album
The Clash - London Calling
Radiohead - OK Computer
U2 - Achtung Baby
U2 - Joshua Tree
Led Zeppelin - IV
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Tool - Aenima/Lateralus
Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire

...i wouuld be pretty happy with these 10 albums if i were stranded on an island

Really hard to make a top ten list, but here's what i've got for now. I made a list of about 20 and cut it down, any of them could be in the top 10 though. Tried to keep it varied.

- Black Sabbath - Vol. 4
- Burial - Untrue
- Depeche Mode - Violator
- Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
- New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies
- Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
- Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
- Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
- Television - Marquee Moon
- The Cure - Faith

I would have put Unknown Pleasures in, but i saw that in someone elses list earlier.
