Yeah I know what you mean, you're right. But I mean, there are folks who say that hip hop was better in the 90's, and they're like 18 too. Im just tired of these guys sayin like lets get back to the roots when they never knew "the roots", you know what Im sayin?

You just gota take da good with the bad nowadays cuz the public has been too dumbed down and their dancing too much. Niggas who try to duplicate that era usually jus cum out boring! I mean...there are some hits and misses but it'll never be like it was when the consciousness level was as high as it was in the 80's and 90's. Shit died with Pac!

i dont agree with that.

It started changing right around the turn of the century when people started getting big off of the internet and it became a commercial commodity.

I hate to blaime Eminem, but his success was the beginning of the changeover, once people realized how much money could be made and that there was a huge audience within the biggest market: whites.

It is useless to try to even do it.

For real, but then a new era must begin, with artists like Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco n all, thats a good thing. Of course you got soulja boy thats garbage, but before there also was dudes like slaver slave, it wasnt that good either.
And I mean how can people say hip hop died with Pac? Pac didnt invented hip hop n he didnt end it, thats all. Pac became a legend mostly cause he got killed. He was a wonderful rapper, but he wasnt the god of hip hop. As long as there will be the Wu, there will be hip hop.

given up on hip-hop, FUCKING HELL NO.. Q-Tip just released an incredible album, if Nas realises his fans want beats like the 9th Wonder beat and Preemo for his next joint then the god MC is back. Jay-Z still got it, "American Gangster" was dope as hell, DOOM's new album was ill as hell and DJ PREMIER is in full effect:

* BLAQ POET - THE BLAQPRINT is coming soon (fully produced by Preemo)
* NYGZ - PRO'S & CONS is coming soon (produced by Preem)
* DJ PREMIER's solo album...

Sadat X is coming with a new album, etc, etc, etc.. OB4CL2, Red & Meth (the singles have been HOT). Hip-Hop is alive and kicking!

Why do cunts keep on comparing hip hop to fucking Metal?

Metal was able to become commercially viable without advertising, radioplay, Tv play and without compromising it's sound.

I know you're referring to Hair Metal or some gay shit, but Metal is one of the only genre's which will never become commercial, but still manages to sell really well.

Which is the result of a combination of Metal fans staying loyal to artists and Metal musicians realises that they can sell more records by catering to their hardcore fanbase.

It's not like there are any casual Metal listeners really.

Are people walking into record stores and buying Sepultura, Pantera and Sabbath on a whim?

What has happened to hip hop is completely different, and is the result of a combination of hip hop fans being fickle/semi retarded and hip hop 'musicians' being unable to comprehend that catering to hardcore fans will sell them more records then making a poor attempt at making pop music.

It has nothing to do with white people you fucking imbecile. White people controlled all the hip hop you've probably ever listened to. A lot of you idiots say shit like that, and it makes no fucking sense. These 'artists' made a conscious decision to change what they were doing with the goal of selling more records. They were fucking greedy.

Ironically, in most cases they probably would have been better off if they had stuck to what they were good at.

Anyway, On topic, i don't listen to a lot of hip hop really. But no less than any other single genre really. I have pretty much no interest in new hip hop because to me there is no where to go with the genre.

A pinnacle was reached. Some new stuff is good, but it's mostly just a rehash.

The only new hip hop i'm into is stuff like Theophilus London, and most idiots here would say that it wasn't hip hop.

Longbongcilvaringz
04-23-2009, 12:29 AM
Just to add something.

Most music genre's do sort of die out.

But most other genres have avenue for progression. Electronic music for instance is pretty much boundless. It's frustrating that hip hop beat makers have such a limited idea of what music should sound like. There are notable exception such as DJ Shadow, Stoupe, Blue Sky Black Death. But even then, while Stoupe did make some really good beats in the past, he now has nowhere to go. His new shit is good, but it's stale. No hip hop producer has any idea what new things they can do on a track with an MC rhyming over it.

I don't know why people are so surprised by anyone saying 'Hip hop is over' or something like that.

The problem with rap music is, i can't see anywhere to progress.

The other new music i listen to right now is shit which i have never heard anything similar to before.

There are some influences, but it's completely new.

I don't see hip hop going in that direction, it's just regressing.

SKANK HILL
04-23-2009, 12:40 AM
Hip hop can't go anywhere but where it's going now because everything hip hop stood for has now generally been accepted in society.

Throw in the limited originality in hip hop, whinging fans who demand too much and every man and his dog becoming a myspace or website forum rapper, it all chops down the legacy from the bottom.

To answer the question, I am pretty much over any new hip hop to come out but will never be over the shit I already own.

I hate checking for new rappers because i know i will have no interest in them and their boring trying to hard or not trying at all banter and jargon.

like they just wanna get up and rap and rap...man, fuck that.

who cares if you can say clever shit fag? oohh ook! let me spend an evening listening to clever shit.

just make good music i can be entertained by

and the ones making 'fun' songs produce a factory made soulness 'fun' that is not only stupid, but has nothing to do with me and thus doesn't personally interest me.

on top of that every rapper i listen to is a huge doofus in real life it appears except Redman, and Bun B. With hip hop you have to be a little more interested in the person talking in general to be a fan of their music cause they're talking about themselves alot more often then other genres but the problem is they're all fags.

and i hate the ones hell bent on proving how average and boring they are while saying clever shit that impresses 14 year olds like Lupe Fiasco and Charles Hamilton

I still dig all the older hip hop shit a lot. Haven't really lost any love for it at all. But for the life of me I just simply cannot get into anything that is dropping these days, or even in the last few years. The last new release that I was actually keen to hear again after the first listen would have been a good 2-3 years ago, I reckon. I have no fucking idea what it even was.

It's not that there's no good hip hop coming out anymore. Just that nothing coming out in the last few years gets me hooked or captures my attention at all. You could name all these dope albums from the last few years, and I'd listen to them and think they sound good, but I can pretty much guarantee I'd have no desire to hear them again.

Hip hop just sounds tired to me. It needs some sort of change. Something new.

Like I heard the new Red and Meth album the other day. What the fuck was the point in releasing that? What the hell did that offer to anybody, or hip hop in general? There's just no point in an album like that coming into existence these days. It's not that bad or anything. It's just more or the same, bland shit.

I like Mr Lif. He's one of two mc's to come out in the last decade or so that I actually listen to. When I heard he was dropping a new album I thought cool, I'll check that out. So it dropped and people on here were saying it's amazing. DL'ed it, listened to it, thought it sounded pretty good, had no desire to hear it again.

Is it me or is it hip hop?

fucking HELL NO, i never had a girl i loved so much as i love hip-hop and shit won't change.. bought alot of hip-hop albums lately although it's mostly older shit but good hip-hop is definitely still being made; "The Renaissance", "Relapse", "Blackout 2", "Brand New Bein'" is the best this year so far and DOOM's album was dope but we still got "Dopium" coming and of course "OB4CL2", "Relapse 2", "Wild Cowboys 2", "Muddy Watters 2" and i even got a good feeling about Fat Joe's coming LP.

hip-hop took a blow when Dilla died but there are plenty of good rappers and producers still out there. "Blaqprint" is coming soon too + Cormegas, Sadat X/Diamond D album, OC & AG, Ghostface R&B LP, maybe even "Detox". Damn, this should be a great year for hip-hop.

there are plenty of good music i listen to that is not hip-hop, as long as it's made from the heart and not for the charts.. UNKLE, Gnarls Barkley, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Shai, D'Angelo, Al Green, Johnny Cash, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against The Machine and some house and drum & bass.

^Co-sign that whole post.

If anything ive gotten more into hip-hop in the last few years. I didnt actually get into hip-hop until i was about 15, at first i was a big rock fan, then a big fan of techno, trance and house and then finally hip-hop and its been that way for the last 9 years.

Theres still lits of good hip-hop out now, the detroit scene is on fire, with new albums this year by Finale and PPP, and of course last year had Guilty Simpson, Elzhi, Black Milk, Fat Ray etc, i really enjoyed a lot of last years releases, Atmospheres lastest effort was fantastic. And of course im constantly buying older releases to complete the collection.

I have not given up on hip-hop and dont think i ever will. I think once you pass the age of 21 and your still as passionate about it was when you were 15 it means you'll always be a fan.

I dont listen to much other type of music, a bit of techno, electro, dubstep, drum n bass, older rock like Zepllin, Sabbath, The Doors etc, thats about it.
