Its sad cuz you could see the remnants of its former greatness. I mean it really fell hard. I did catch a glimpse of old Tiger Stadium...shit was cool.

But Im still wondering why they built Ford Field and Comerica downtown.....we got off the freeway for a minute to turn around....Grand River Blvd. or something. NOt too good. But the Palace was nice as fuck.
Great arena...built completely for basketball, or at least centered around it.

It is kinda getting outdated tho....they need a new jumbotron scoreboard cuz that shit is lame.
Reminded me of the old Richfield Coliseum jumbotron. I doubt you even heard of that place.

^^ word just peeped that at Forbes.com

I was thinking about the cities in that list and wondering how bad can these places really be. I mean I grew up in Bronx, NY... been to Queens, Brooklyn, Staten, Up-Town Manhattan and I ve seen some bad shit, and stuff can get real ruff. But NYC does not even come close on the masters list, which makes me think about how shitty a place like Detroit can be. I am also shocked that Miami was top 5?!?! I guess the sugar coat MIA with all the beaches and clubs, celeb life ETC... Maybe one day I will have to check some of these cities out...in a car ofcourse lol.

LOL...i say that cuz there was a dude with dyed blonde hair and his white trash chick who were fucking with some cavs fans at the game, but in the end dude kinda was a bitch cuz his girl grabbed the guys cavs jersey and threw it....the cavs fan picked it up and threw a wrapper at her on his way back...

in a delayed reaction she acted like she was going to go after him, but her man had to hold her back and she started hitting her man..

all in all it was a bad day for Pistons fans......we really rubbed it in. Had the brooms out and everything

America is a large country and it encompasses many different types of people and places unlike Europe which is a continent full of independent countries.

Its easy for you to sit there and act all superior living in Belgium distancing yourself from Russia and the Balkan states....you live in the rich neighborhood of Europe.

Instead of trying to make your little disses about healthcare and 'dumb and fucked up people', maybe you should find out why Detroit is the way it is.

The auto industry of Detroit was massive and employed most of the people that lived in the city. Once they left, the people left. Detroit has lost almost half of its population within a few decades.

Its rise and fall has been quick. The city is abandoned in most parts. The people that stayed are poor and can't leave. The people who had money left for the suburbs. Detroit has numerous large suburbs.

Basically, like alot of U.S. cities after WWII, most of its city population fled to the suburbs. This is especially true of rustbelt cities like Detroit, CLeveland, Milwaukee, St. Louis...when all the industry left to go overseas beause of greedy businessmen.

You have to realize that the United States is a large country with numerous cities. Not all of them can be like LA, SF and NY or Chicago. And even those places have their rough neighborhoods.
I mean look at the Bronx in the 70's and 80's.

Many of these cities are rebuilding. New York and Chicago have been, as has Cleveland. Some places tho continue to get worse and their fate is that as great cities they are in decline and will never reach their peak.
Detroit looks like such a place.

YOu don't even need to go into the neighborhoods to see this. I saw it from the freeway...abandoned skyscrapers, abandoned projects.

Its terrible, its definitely one of the worst, most depressed places in the country as far as cities go.
Certain areas of the country have suffered worse than others.

As it stands, I'll still take my chances in the United States. Everywhere else gets hit harder with recession, depression, war, gas prices, than we do here.

Belgium was nice, so was the Netherlands, but I'd still take the States over both of em.

fair enough, belgium is pretty boring if you ask me.
but as far as health care and everything that comes with it its one of the best countries to be in.

as far as combining good living with excitement and interesting places america probably is one of the best or THE best country.

what makes your healthcare so great???

I love it how other country's seemed so concerned about America's healthcare.

First of all, the hospital won't refuse you treatment, and alot of times, you can get funding if you don't have the money.

IF free healthcare means shittier doctors and months long waiting lists, than im not so sure that is a good thing.

Things that work in belgium will not necessarily work in a massive, diverse country like the United States.

Of course, its like sayin switzerlang gots less criminality than the USA.
Its like that Michael Moore movie, where in a scene you see a french doctor sayin to some dude, "see ya, dont have to pay", when thats completely untrue, even if you get repaid you always gotta pay the man.
Even if its true that healthcare thing seems to be a big problem in the USA, european media only talks about it when they wanna make us think we have it way better here.

I didn't ask for all that. in fact, i didn't ask for any of your more personal information.

I'm still trying to figure out why you try to put on this front of 'superiority' when it obviously stems from some sort of inferiority complex you have.

Your really no different from me. Your a diasporadic Italian whose family moved elsewhere for opportunity.

It seems like you have been insulted by Italians for not being born in Italy, henche why you try to claim you are somehow 'more' Italian than me cuz you live closer???
I don't really understand your logic.
If your saying that I should not rep my Italian heritage and blood, than why would you think you should???
Cuz you live 8 hours away?? LOL.
I live 8 hours away from New York....does that make me a New Yorker?

Again, I don't get your logic, if you even have any, which to me, you really don't.

This is something deeply personal for you it seems. So much so that you have to remind everyone of it in your location.

Again, you are hating something that is near exactly what you are, but my ancestors were actually smarter and had more balls.
They came to a better country much earlier with more opportunity, and certainly didn't have to work in any coalmines.

well there are plenty of differences my friend :

- you dont speak italian

- youve never been to italy

- you have no contact with your relatives there( which defeats the purpose of you bragging about them lol)

so you should stick to repping you're yankiness, cus you talking about italy is really pathetic, and might get your ass whooped if you talk about it near an actual italian.

and the NY comparison is too stupid for words omg...

How does this make you anymore of an Italian citizen than me tho???

I should just ignore you after this, because this post is utterly ridiculous and childish on so many levels.

You are right, I have no contacts with relatives personally, but I know my grandfather still does, and we have a social club here in America, that I am a member of, that is consisted of ancestors from our hometown of Montenerodomo in the Abruzzi region.

Someday in the future, I hope to visit this place.

If I was 8 hours away, i might have done it already.

Your whole arguement is kinda lame.

Its a childish 'I'm more italian than you'll every be!!' arguement.

ANd I never would claim such an immature and juvenile thing anyway.

Bottom line is, whether you like it or not, I have Italian blood flowing thru my veins, and thats where my people came from. Most of the Italians in Cleveland are from Abruzzi, or Molise....many from Campobasso (which one part of my family is from.)

Now, these people all associate with their Italian bloodline, because thats what we are. Just as you still associate with Italy even tho you were born in Belgium.

Its not a contest of who knows more words in Italian. Thats ridiculous and pointless. I took 2 years of Italian in college, does that make me more Italian than a member of my family who didn't?
Do you see how stupid that is and how retarded you look when you say things like that?

I think your whole problem here is maybe you have a problem with Italian-Americans for some reason??
I don't know. Its really weird.

I personally think its more of an American thing than anything else. You have jumped on that bandwagon of 'Yankee hating'.

Theres a big difference between Italians and Italian-Americans. you can even put in Italians living in another European country like Cap. i got loads of Italian friends here, and not a single one of them would ever say they are English. not in a million years, they all pretty much hate England. While Italian-Americans would have no problem calling themselves American. This is what creates the difference, Italians see it as your either Italian or not. you cant say well im Italian and reap all the benefits that being Italian brings (4 world cups) but then at different moments say you American and benefit from that (big bombs).

Well see now that a European thing and I can understand that being the close proximity.

I never claim to be Italian, like I have Italian citizenship....but in America, I am regarded as an Italian....people don't go around saying Italian-American...they just say your an Italian....so maybe its the language that I'm using that is confusing little cappie and getting his speedo in a knot.

While most Americans identify as Americans, ethnic Americans still identify with the country of their ancestors...examples being Italians, Poles, Russians, Irish, Croatian, Hungarian etc.

This stems from the racism and bigotry that these lesser wanted Europeans faced when they came here.

So moreso than other groups, Italians still tend to identify with their culture and heritage alot. So do many Irish.

Whether or not Italians living in Italy want to accept us because of that....so be it. We know what we are and where our ancestors came from. They should be proud that we keep up the tradition.

But your right, bottom line is we are Americans. We fight under the American flag if we choose to do so.

What cappie fails to understand is the complexities of American society.

AMerica is just a whole different ballgame when it comes to shit like that tho. Its a 'melting pot' right, or maybe more of a tossed salad, with distinctive ingredients not blended in.

and the whole world cup thing...well, we could give a fuck about that. Altho I did pull for the Azzuri during the last one.

Had Cappie been born in America, he would be the same way, and maybe had I been born in Italy, the same would go for me.

But we are compaing two different dynamics.

Many groups go through this.....the people of their former country say they are not 'authentic', which I personally think is to the detriment of those countries. The reason people left in the first place was because those countries did not have the opportunity the other country has.

I'm sure your in England because of this.

Thats what Cappie fails to understand. Southern Italy is not a prosperous place. NOr was Italy a stable place, so people left for the better and probably live better in AMerica than they would over there.

America has been good to many immigrants, thats why they come over.

I understand your position and have for the past two pages.

Your failing to understand mine, or any American immigrants, which is fine, you can lived in your little closed off world if you want. It makes no difference to me.

Tradition is the Feast of the Assumption held every year, Little Italy's across America amongst other things that have coalesced with American culture creating something very unique that you could never understand, so I really don't know why I would expect a mini Fascist like your self to do so.

People aspired to be American because they had no rivalries with AMericans. YOu say your educated and 'worldly' but you don't understand a damn thing outside of 'Europe'.

I currently reside in Belgium and shit is boring as fuck overhere , the only positive things are that they've got some good red light districts and some good beer , they've got a good welfare system and they have got a good healthcare system. That's about it. I'm planning to move outta this country within' 5 years. Go back to South Africa or something I dunno....

To answer the thread : I've never been to Detroit but I've watched documentay's bout it and it sure looks grimy and I've heard it's the most violent city of the US and I guess we all have seen footage of Detroit through the movie 8 Mile both positive and negative. Other than that I don't think I've got the right to talk bout Detroit as a city since I've never been there. But I've always been supportive with Detroit Hip-Hop , Esham started that whole Horrorcore/Acid type of rap and is a Hip-Hop legend wether you like his shit or not , then ICP is dope (regardless of all the hate they get from some people), Natas is the shit as well, and in the late 90's you had Eminem and his crew D12 comin' through which is one of the best crews in Hip-Hop in my opinion, King Gordy has been the king of horrorcore since 2003. I still gotta check out some stuff from 5 Elementz though and I know Detroit's Most Wanted was dope back in the days but I can't find their stuff. Royce is aight but I'm not really a fan of his stuff.

I sure like the sport teams that's comin' outta Detroit as well (I'm wearing a Detroit Tigers shit while I type this LOL) the Detroit Pistons always been a good team so are The Tigers.
And isn't the temple of The NOI located in Detroit?
