Apparently so:

We thought ThinkGeek's coolest items were the fake ones the company made up for April Fools Day. It has finally outdone its staff's own imagination, with Sega Dreamcasts. For $99.99, you can purchase a brand new North American Dreamcast, complete with cables, controllers, a web browser disc (version 2.0, so it includes Sega Swirl) and a demo disc.

You're on your own for games, which means you may have to resort to putting used games in your new console. Not that it's really a problem to spend the tiny amount of money required to equip your system with a bunch of great games -- Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Bangai-O, Space Channel 5 and Typing of the Dead come to mind immediately.

We're of the opinion that the gaming community would get along so much better if everybody just played some Dreamcast and remembered what fun was like. After the break, we remember Segata Sanshiro, and the noble sacrifice that granted the Dreamcast its life.

Why would anyone actively buy a dreamcast in 2009?

Poor people.

I think it's a commercial to sell the last Dreamcasts. I don't think they're making new ones.

I liked the Dreamcast, but considering that nobody's making games for this anymore, I'll probably pass.

shame what happened, it was a nice alternative to the first PS, but Sega should've continued making new consoles, like Sony did the legendary PS2.

Wasn't it released in the PS2/Xbox era?

It has some games from that time.

i went to a local vintage stock last week and was looking at prices on dreamcast games.

i was there yesterday and i looked at the prices on the same games i looked at last week and i shit you not they upped the prices on all dreamcast games by 10-15 bucks.

lol BUNCH OF FAGGOTS
like the masses are gonna go out in droves and buy new dreamcasts and come looking for old games and they're gonna reap huge mountains of cash

SEGA would have made a ton of money if they protected the console properly.

with the bootloader cd, it was simple to download and burn games for it. a child could do it.

if it sold well, that probably would have given pirates alot of cash in selling copied goods.

There was a rumor that SEGA was getting back in the hardware game. They had trademarked the name "Ringedge". But considering that they might have financial troubles I would doubt it. Did anyone here ever have a Sega Master System?

I remember when I was a little kid and when Nintendo and Sega Master system were competing with each other. My friend got a Sega Master system and I got a Nintendo, that same Christmas. At first I thought that maybe I would have rather had the Sega, but then I changed my mind in a little while. lol

i had master system.

nintendo was way better, but the master system definitely had some fun shit.

alex kidd, wonderboy, rastan, golvellius, shining in the darkness, shinobi, altered beast, golden axe, some other shits i can't remember.

those were tight shit.

i'd like to play them right now on some nostalgia shit.

i used to fill out the little cards that came with games and send em back to sega and shit.

one day i came home from school, and my mom told me that someone from sega called asking for me, and something about winning some free shit or something.
they told her thye would call back within the week.

i was so fucking excited, i shit you not, i would race home everyday from school and burst in the crib asking if sega called. i was like 8 years old, so everyday i came home and they hadn't called i was just like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. devastated.

from time to time i remember that shit, and i'm just like WAS SOMEONE FUCKING WITH ME? or what

oh well, genesis was the dopeshit too.

True but you could mod anything back in the day. It's only this gen that it's hard to mod because MS and Nintendo are on point by banning people or releasing new patches when the mods become available and the PS3 is apparently impossible to mod because of the amount of processors

if the dreamcast was so good, why did it fail so quick?

I never knew it had built in online play. Thats crazy for the time.

idk y it fell, well, some of the titles were shit, but IMO they made up for it with their good games (jet grind fuckin radio bitches) and unbelievable technological advances which, since havent all been revisited (VMU)

yeah, i loved jet grind radio....

why would we want to visit the VMU again? flash media storage within the console tranferred via cable or flash stick is far more impressive than a box with a shitty lcd display.

they were 'all the rage' when the dreamcast launched.. that along with the internet connection and keyboard etc... was their USP... thats all. but the ps2 knocked all that shit off the shelf.

dude i loved VMUs, plus even if we dont need em now, they were dope as hell then
